You just brought back some horrible memories of the time I screwed myself out of a potential nine gates hand when I discarded the wrong tile...I still won with a Chiniitsu but it could have been so much more T_T orz

I hate you! I hate you! I hate you!

Have I told you I hate you?

congrats btw

I mean, not only must you have lucky starting hands, but lucky draws, which I completely lack. People would normally think that this type of hand is a sure ticket to a small four winds

In my case it represented no one discarding a wind or me receiving one in 10 go arounds till someone won on a 2 han hand -_-. I mean WTF was north thinking when keeping a south tile he didn't have any use for for 10 rounds. -_-

I think it's fairly useful to just go through the records of players getting yakumans. I get a kick of how they were formed.

The records of my Nine Gates: Link

After my first draw of 9 characters in that game, I had a feeling that might lead to something special. And it didn't change even after East called my 4-pin. Looked at how it turned out. I still don't believe it.

There's something going on behind that Tenhou program. You'll never, ever, have this kind of hands/draws IRL.

WTF, you had a 9 way wait 9 gates AND you declared riichi on that? Geez, you sure have some confidence on your luck.

LOLZ.

This is why I never trust online gaming that relies on random chance XD

A program is only a program afterall

Actually, it's just a 7-wait. The last 1 and 9-character were already discarded earlier.

I think it's fairly obvious that the other players were already wary of my hand and discarding non-character tiles, so I felt at that time, there's no point in going for a silent wait.

I also noticed that Tenhou has a fairly common occurrence of ippatsuu, so I just felt calling riichi will "call" out the winning tile I want and it did.

How can you teach a new person about Japanese Mahjong without confusing the heck out of him/her? I don't even know where to start, and it ended up being more confusing than before I taught them.

Play the game. Mahjong is one where you pick up after you start playing.

My first Yakuman!

I did it!
God, i was so excited, and when i even drew the south wind myself, i screamed out loud.....during night

Also, it is a special hand that is automatically worth atleast a yakuman.
Small 4 winds i guess you call it.

Nice job on that hand.

Suu An Kou for me just before.

Of course, I don't even win the damn match.

I suppose finishing at +20 in second place isn't something to be that upset about...

Finally, i am 1st Dan

But from now on you can drop ranks or?

Also, why do i start with 200 points?
Do i need to get another 200 points to reach 2nd Dan, and if i lose the 200 points, will i drop back to 1kyu ?

Wow, I think I'm under the spell of a bad luck curse or something. Today I got my first win after 4 days and 20 han chan's of being unable to get top D: (decided to just go for silent tenpai's of cheap hands and just one riichi on a decent one and it payed off ). I had only got 2 or 3 fourth places but still my luck is it the dumps D:

From the 200 points, you need to get to 400 points to reach 2nd-Dan. If you dropped to 0, you'll drop back to 1-Kyu.

There's a table in that site to tell you the progression and points needed.

That's also close to a special hand called the "Dai Sha Ren", which is a full suit of pairs not counting terminals. So, 22-33-44-55-66-77-88 would be the typical win for that, but Tenhou doesn't count it as a hand.

That's a pretty ridiculous hand. Considering

純正九蓮宝燈 0.00006 13.00 13.00 0.00 0.00

Which means .00006% of all Tenhou hands were Junpei, which is really outrageous. The only hand rarer is the Suu Kan Tsu, which was made easier to get by not allowing four Kans to end a game.

If it's not counted as a yakuman, then counting it normally you would add a tanyao to that. Only 2 dora's would be necessary to make it a counted yakuman if it were a big wheels hand. 3 dora's in the case of my hand.
