Pretty good episode for the most part. At least everything that I wanted to see happened this episode. Didn't want to have to wait another week to see Mikasa's reaction.
I'm not sure why this insists on having re-caps at the beginning of every episode. It's pointless. I also don't understand why they continuously just do pictures that slowly pan to a side with voices behind them. I think they were trying to pull off something cinematic, but it didn't really work well at all. Once again, I finally got to see Mikasa's reaction. Time to ship Eren and Mikasa everyone. Because we all know Mikasa is wet for him. Time to get that @ss Eren! Added more to the plot with Eren being able to change into a Titan, however I still feel like it's sort of a cop out for the group on how Eren can just go Titan and they just sit back and watch. Just seems eh to me honestly. I know I'll most likely get flak for saying this, but I'm just trying to keep this in perspective. Overall, was pretty good. 8/10. |

I find it funny that the OP of the show actually sort of portrays the show that way. But when you actually watch it, you see that one sign of a titan and everyone is pissing in their pampers. It sort of irritates me. You'd think they'd at least show other characters killing like Mikasa was. Like Annie for example. I just feel as though they'll be relying on Eren's power so heavily it'll definitely feel like a cop out. Hopefully it develops to the point that the only time Eren even needs to use it is if the Colossal Titan shows up or some other dire situation. |

One man cannot make a difference. Not only that, according to the next episode, Eren's new Kyojin power is considered a threat to humanity. There's gonna be some fast-talking and compromises or else Eren gets executed for "becoming the enemy."
Huh. I know there's a trope in there somewhere, about how one tries to fight fire with fire and ends up alienating his peers because his newfound power puts him one step out of the boundaries of humanity, and at worst, they can no longer differentiate whether he is still human or now one of them. A setup for a Tragic Hero turn, to be sure. |

As for whether this can be categorized as mecha...well...we can call this anime Mobile Suit Titan from now on .

Annie is quite the unsung member of the cast with the not caring and shit attitude. That was somewhat predictable, but great scene at the end.

Yep, the theory of the Eotens being weapons of war is starting to gain traction. You need only look where Eren emerged from his Eoten to see it. The nape of the neck. The same place that is considered the Eotens weak point.

That was a great episode. The Renegade Titan turning out to be Eren was expected but I'm glad he managed to get his revenge on the abnormal that killed Thomas. And with just his teeth. Damn that was badass.
I also love how it's managed to balance out the focus of the plot with the focus of the characters. The focus on the characters (this time some very good focus on Jean and Armin) is still very significant in this show and I imagine it will remain so in future episodes. The pure emotion Mikasa felt when she saw Erin alive was very strong. She didn't even need to say anything thanks to the focus she had in the previous episodes. And I have to say that the pacing is still just impeccable. Quote:

Part of me always wonders how the storyline would have potentially unfolded if Eren never came back and stayed completely dead. Another part also wonders what if the rogue titan turned out to be some manifestation of Eren but not actually Eren. Like some people said, a purer humans vs. monsters scenario could have been interesting for sure, albeit mankind would still need an ass pull to survive.
Aside from that, highlight was definitely sad Mikasa at the end. VA did a perfect job of conveying her raw emotion. |

The rogue titan added a nice twist to the story.
Armin had an interesting plan. The rest of the soldiers were just scared and useless. Relying on the enemy to survive. It's a bit ironic. In this case it was very effective. Who knew Armin had the qualities of a leader. Wow, awesome episode.
