If thats the case, I really think you should use the Pen tool instead. Give it a try, it's not as difficult as some people make it seem.

You don't need to use no useless pentool to extract the pics.
go uneder Filter > Extract. (Alt + Ctrl + X) Another window should appear with the pic you want to extract from. On the right side you sould see a "tool size" selection and a little cheek box called "Use Smart Extract." click this box. Now look on the left side and you will see a tool list. Zoom in and then use the hand tool to move the pic to the desired spot you want to start extracting from. Now click on the little marker tool and begin to trace around the pic you want to extract. With the "Smart Extract" on it will help you hug the outline better. It will be a little slow so you'll need some patients. After you're done tracing the pic, make sure there are no gaps in the marker line. Next click on fill tool (paint bucket) and just click in the middle of the marker outline. If done correctly the pic sould fill up with a transparent blue. Now all you need to do is go to the right hand side and click extract and VWALLA! the pic will extract itself from the rest of the pic with a nice crisp and smooth cut. It's ALOT more accurate than useing the peentool or erase tool. |

All that trouble instead of doing a trace around the image and pick "make selection" then copy and paste.
Anyway, I am not saying my way is better than yours, but it works fine if you are familiar with the tool. EDIT: Oh yes, the accuracy in this totally depends on the skill of the user.
