I'd like to ask that nobody submit any more banners that use images from our current banner. (Like Oneesama did.) They will be disqualified no matter how great a job you do. This isn't really our choice. The problem is that the original creator of our current banner wants us to remove it from the site.

What? Oh, sorry, I'd have put more than 10 minutes into my banner if I knew the old one was going to have to go entirely.

The PNG does appear less spotty than the GIF, yet at the price of double the file size.

PNGs can use up to 256 times as many colors, so you can call double the file size "really good compression".

Well, cuz someone didn't like the font...

If anyone can find anything different in the bottom one (in comparison to the one above that) let me know. I used different compression values. Oh, and when I save it as a PNG, the file size is bigger. (psst, psst...I never used gif)

To illustrate what the background does:

...note that both sides match the original blank background image,
so that it blends in on both sides. Note that the white "noise" you see
is due to transparancy in the image. FYI, here is the original background:
(although I presume it is the same Nighwish attached)

I'd say no -- apart from being able to fit with the current background
image on the left and right sides, what is in the middle is up to
you, including which font to use.

I like this one the best, It has that nice, blue christmas feel. You should use that one and forse's background, as they would match with the background the best.

Oh and mine could just be a random banner to appear every once and a while.

Well, I figured it was time I had a stab at it too

... so here you go:

Overall some nice banners so far; but I have to agree with JAppi about Tzurial's offering and so it is my current personal favorite. ChibiDusk coming a close second. I hope some more people post within the next few days
