In summary,

So basically Heartseed likes to watch soap opera. But he decided that he's too impatient to sit there and wait for drama to build up and unfold itself. So he presses the fast forward button and watch only the best parts.

The end product is Kokoro Connect.

I will say one thing, and only one thing. Is Taichi really sure that he loves Iori and not Inaba? I am not too sure.

I really want those three to be in a polyamorous relationship but I guess that's not happening eh.

An episode where two male protag confess to girls??
When was the last time in anime history this happens??

Anyway, great development there.
But considering this is just 5th episode, i kinda worried about the pace here.

@serenade_beta
Spot on...
At least, Heartseed should pay the hospital bills...

How many episodes is this going to be? I heard that they are going to adapt 4 volumes, so should be around 24?

From solicitations of the BD/DVDs, it appears to be 17 episodes long. In June, tvk mentioned that they will air 13 of the 17 episodes, so the remaining four will likely be streaming/BD only in Japan.

I don't know what to think of this though- I'm glad that they're still going to do that volume because it's important to the story, but how many people would still be keeping track of it after the TV episodes end?

So it's a 5-4-4-4 split?

It seems most likely to be the case- The first volume of any story would have slightly more content I think so it'll get 5 episodes.

Though from what I've heard, the episode titles are a big enough hint as to which episodes are from which volume.

Spoiler for Light Novel spoiler as an answer for for @Azuma Denton, @serenade_beta:

As I said before, the transition to the ending theme song was always masterfully done in Kokoro Connect, but this time was even more exceptional. And extra kudos to the VAs. Nagase impersonating Iori was just fantastic and hit the perfect balance between the real Himeko speaking as Iori, and Iori acting as Himeko. Miyukichi was good (and very unique for her), too but I really liked Aoki's VA (Terashima Takuma was it?) work as Iori.

5 episodes in, I've been quite satisfied with the work done here. Sure, it shows that they've had some trouble cramming so much dialog into the limited amount of time they had, but they've been rather faithful to the original and I'm grateful for that. Let's hope we continue to see great stuff in the following episodes.

The ones buying the BDs would be keeping track of it, which is the most important part. So far, the episodes have gone 250k->160k->160k->100k views on NicoNico, so I imagine they'll have plenty of viewers to watch online only episodes.

You know, this is one case in which I could almost see it. I think there is love in all directions in that trio. Not that it is going to happen, of course.

For me, this may be Toyosaki Aki's best performance ever. By the way, in response to another comment of yours, I love a lot of shoujo. It's shounen shows that I often find myself unable to finish. They seem emotionally unsubtle, with boring series of fights and impossibly capable young heroes. Lol.

This show is a seiyuu's dream. And Miyukichi is a dream seiyuu.

Good observation. It also fits with the controlled emotion. There is something a bit emotionally distant -- not in a bad way -- about this emotion-filled show. The quick way we get info through dialogue is also part of that aesthetic, it seems to me. By the way, in my (private) high school, most of the class would have had no problem with the word "sophistry." And this is a private high school, I believe.

I actually don't think we have real "explanations" for any characters except Iori and Yui, and only barely for them. Inaba doesn't trust anyone, supposedly for no good reason. Aoki loves Yui (needs no explanation, for me) and can't figure out how to act. Taichi can't stand seeing other people inconvenienced and sacrifices himself. There's a lot more to learn about the deeper motivations and backgrounds of all three. Not to mention the other two, lol.

But this lack of character background doesn't bother me, since they are all acting fairly consistently, so far, and I have a feeling we will gradually burrow deeper and deeper into their characters. And I am getting a good amount of feeling for who the characters are from the dialogue, and from their facial expressions and tones of voice. In a way, perhaps, the show is working backwards: we see the events first, and get the explanations later, rather than building up to the events through background.

Wait, I'm getting confused. When a personality is in another body, does the body's seiyu carry on with the voicing or does the personality's seiyu take over?

Inaba trust issue is really more of an instinctive thing... Some people are like that. Natural self-defense mechanism programmed in your blood. It's like one of those "What if"s that pops up in your head for no reason, even if you would reject that thought right away with reasoning you can't deny that the idea had come up in your head. It's called being a worrywart. Even adults can think like that, let alone teenagers at their most emotionally sensitive age AND experiencing freaky body-swapping episodes. In fact, episode 3 already proved her worries to come true by having the guys fooling around with the girls' bodies. Combine the fact that she hates herself for thinking ill of her friends which stresses her to the point of breaking down physically.

I just have say this because quite frankly I can't understand why people would just dismiss her problem/explanation as non-existent "no reason". Sure it may not sound like a big deal (which is entirely the point) compare to the other two girls, but we still have a very solid personality and problem that makes perfect sense. People like that do exist and the problem is just as real as any could get.

End of my rant, move along.

Lol, got confused with all the talk about which seiyu did what.

By the way, how on earth do four of the characters go through the day wearing such thick layers of clothing? There's the school uniform, a sweater, AND a suit. It can't be that cold since Yui only wears her uniform with no additional layers.

That was a hell of psych there, Heartseed. I'm sure you've got plenty of other tricks up your sleeve, and I hope it leads to some more development of the male characters.

It occurred to me that Heartseed is in someway like the author of a story; screwing with characters lives because its fun, and dropping drama bombs on them when things get boring.

Not necessarily. As I am looking at it ( I have no LN knowledge, so I have no idea), they got used to the random short swapping, it started amounting to less and less "interesting" reactions, so there was nothing left for heartseed to "observe".

Its possible he might pull something else now, like maybe an extended swap time, how long can they live in each others bodies before reacting somehow, or maybe, becoming more like that person is supposed to be (or maybe being unable to adjust).

Of course its also possible he'll do something else entirely, but if so I have no clue as to what.
