Episode 3 was quite balanced I would say, nothing spectacular, but a mandatory "break" after everything was thrown at shuu in ep1 and 2

Gai's "ability" surely explains the events of episode 2 and give weight to his overbearing confidence, except of course the fact that Shuu could potentially screw up, but assuming Gai -really- knew him when they were kids, I guess it would match that trust, sort of.

I was afraid of very crappy school events, but at least they used the setup to at least exploit the Void characteristics.
Meanwhile, while that guy (forgot his name) was obviously an incoming backstabber even before the initial confrontation, it was a good wake-up call for Shuu regarding how things aren't as nice and dandy as he might think.

I wonder if they will make Shuu facing his mother (and "presumbly" his father, should that research is indeed his old man), and his past at the same time.
Past the cryptic and obvious "bad guy speech", something looks a bit odd in that "classic cliche villain scene".

Finally, Inori with a very little quirks, but I wouldn't be surprised if her character evolves well in the long run :3

So, the power of the Void Genome only works on those aged 17 or younger, eh? So convenient that all the people he plunders will be young and nubile huh.

Moving right along, Inori has not only joined his school, but also moved right in with him. Conveniently, as often is the case in anime, Shu's mom only comes home sporadically.

And, we get 100% confirmation the female researcher is Shu's mom, if the birthday flashback wasn't enough proof to convince some of us earlier.

I very much doubt the male researcher is Shu's father. The family pictures in Shu's apartment are of just him and his mother. Plus, the dude is really old. That's just gross pairing him off with Shu's hot mom. On the subject of the old man, he's showing some flamboyantly evil tendecies this episode with his tone of speech and evil grin. Are there no normal evil people in here?

I loled at how no one seemed to comment on Shu pulling objects out of people's chests. And, no, it wasn't like he was doing them all in isolation, as the third person he tried it on had an audience.

Gai has an oh-so-convenient ability to read people's Voids by looking at them. Certainly, the Void Genome power would have far better suited him.

The new villain, Major Segai is even more flamboyant than Daryl.

Jerkface betrays Shu, but call me cynical, I'm sure they'll make up and be buddies down the road. They're members of the same club. That's a bond that goes deep in anime.

Lastly, Normal Gene drug....why do I have a feeling this is the Refrain situation all over again?

Anyways, Episode Three did nothing to alleviate any concerns some may have that the show didn't take itself seriously, but that's fine. Popcorn entertainment never looks this good usually, so let's count our blessings.

Also, hate when shows do the retcon thing where they redo the ending of the previous episode as their opening. This used to be far more common in anime, but it's been so long since I'd last seen it done, it was a little jarring.

I started to be confuse if Shuu does look like EVA's Shinji or rather Doraemon, but maybe Doraemon is just that kind of person ?

This episode mixed stupidity and intelligence (intelligence being typical Production IG style) very well.
The producer was pretty sure that we are not stupid, it is impossible for Shuu to have any real dangers at that time.
I am more interested in what he will deal with that guy when he come back.

Yeah, fairly right. I have the same jarring feeling when Yoshino (the writer) adds so much details to distort it.
I think there was a difference with Yoshino's perception when Ichirō Ōkouchi threw this scene to him.
When both men (especially Okouchi) think that it is a good idea, but I think it didn't just sound good,
but even worked magically sometimes.

Also I think I can assume that it's the first straong cliffhanger of the whole series for this moment.

I find my enjoyment of the show being hampered by how many cliches and extreme coincidences are apparent so far.

The production values and music are amazing. But the whole cliches with the MC knowing them as a kid, the very specific rules on the Void powers, Gai magically having the power to see what weapon everyone has, C&C "bounce" move by that one girl, Inori transferring into the school + moving in with him, etc.

Guess I need to just turn my brain off for this one and go along with the ride enjoying the animation.

Well, I have something good to say about this one. I got a good laugh out of the void genome fail on the class rep. The twist at the end was certainly unexpected. Good cliffhanger.

For the bad: Why does the next antagonist also have to be a damn caricature?

Overall this episode has had a neutral-positive effect on my opinion.

Still doesn't tell us whether or not she's evil though. All we know about her is that she works for the same company as the enemies, but that doesn't tell us if she herself is evil.

There might exist people who like that kind of thing. I find it extremely off-puting, but given three episodes of it in a row I doubt it's going anywhere unfortunately.

It's a not uncommon character trait in shounen shows. More popular in Japan of course, because they still have more of a gender role imbalance over there.

Also probably because your typical anime fan is rather "beta" and wants the type of girl thats dependent. But that's just my opinion on why.

Also: LOL @ all the useless Void types. Vase ... Pliers... lol...
