Eventually there will be a recap episode anyway, so I actually don't mind it. I just treat that week as "no ep this week".

Okay... what about when there's like four recap episodes?

Not only that but you had people like Athrun having flashbacks of something he can't possibly know of. (Mu getting blasted to oblivion and Natarle and Azrael getting blasted by the Archangel) Lets not forget that scene of how many times Cagalli's dad get emulated in that fire over and over again. Shows up more dead in Destiny as a flashback =\

Uh, you're not supposed to take every flashbacks as being from personal experience. Some of these are either public knowledge or, at least, known to the speaker. And others are just supposed to convey through visuals what the person is talking about.

0080 and 0083 probably had the most realism of them all.
Again, it doesn't have to be "more realistic" as much as more focused, more concise in nature...I've had my fill of the ridiculous large scale battles...Lets bring it back to individual missions...

Kinda off-topic here, but I think maybe you'd like Infinite Stratos .

And I think it's time for us to stop the "which Gundam is worse" game already.

How doesn't it matter? I'm pretty sure series made in the 70, 80s and 90s had lower budgets than those made in the 2000s.

Ummm...no. It was a minute at the most.

No, maybe three at most. But that isn't the point; the point is that is was the same freaking thing for like ten episodes in a row.

Unless you give me graphs of studio budget, your point is useless.

The budget didn't have anything to do with it. The reason so many shows from that time reused footage was that they had to draw every frame by hand. Reusing footage saved time, budget, and the animators' arms.

ok, so that nullifies that point, so Elo, budgets shouldn't be an issue then.

lolz.. What are you talking about? They still draw key frames by hand..
reusing footage saves time, it's a fact.. It did back then and it still does.

But who cares.. The people who made Seed one of the most successful Gundam series ever certainly didn't

Fair enough. Unicorn aside(so far), I'm pretty sure every Gundam series has had some amount of stock footage.

Are you serious? I challenge you to name at least three episodes where the opening montage was three minutes.

The overall story moved changed every 10 episodes so the opening montage being the same for a number of episodes on end makes sense.

But they use computer to aid the process and refine the frames.

Early 2000 was still a transitional period for Japanese animation studio's.
Back then, they still draw key frames like in the old day's, on paper. of course they digitalized it, colored it and edited using a computer. this is a very inconvenient process, it's arguably even harder then the old one..

I believe 00 was Sunrise's first Anime where almost everything was drawing using Wacom.
And the new way of making animation isn't all that easier btw. The process is cleaner and a lot more organized but it is still a time consuming process. coloring is the only thing that has become a lot easier.

People seemes to forget that almost all anime productions are currently outsourced to 2nd and 3rd world countries where labour are in abundance and cheap.

Reusing frames reeks of maximising profit in the least amount of time in this age of globalisation.
