I'm curious.
It includes both original books and translated one.
But you can't count anime books like Newtype.

I've recently read a translated version of Musashi. It was okay, but I didn't think it was great or anything.

Translated, quite a few, yes, since my university studies actually revolves around Japan. Musashi, Murakami or Mishima books... Probably nothing special.

The only time I tried to read a non-translated book was more than a year-and-half ago, and it proved to be FAR too difficult for me to read. I didn't tried a second time since I got my hands on a translated version inbetween.

I do read translated novels now and then. Most recently, In the pool by Hideo Okuda, because I was curious about the Kuchu Buranko anime in October.

Well, what else stood out to me...
The Inugami Clan (Seishi Yokomizu) and especially Tokyo Zodiac Murders (Souji Shimada) are brilliant. Great mysteries.

I haven't read any light novels though.

I'm reading Vampiere Hunter D - english translation. Cow I'm waiting for 2 last novels - shipping times to Poland are ridiculous :/ I've to say Dark Horse translation is splendid.

I've also read FMP novels translated by fans, as well as first novel of Zero no tsukaima. I'm planning to read rest of them soon.

Took Japanese literature class many years ago so yeah we had to read tl'ed works of a new well known authors and analyse etc.
I dipped into Murakami last year otherwise, tale of genji I'll get into and i wanna dabble into the light novel world sometime (in jp)

Novels are my brand of tea than manga anyways, so answer is def yes

(don't really read manga/comics)

Japanese literature is amazing.

I've read No Longer Human, The Setting Sun and Kokoro. Osamu Dazai for the first two, and Natsume Soeski for the third, they're all great books; Setting Sun was not as amazing as No Longer Human, but in itself was a very good book. Kokoro was a very good bok too, which I could relate to.

No Longer Human is a hard book to relate to unless you've had a very bad experiences in your life, and in the same time it requires an open mind and heart to appreciate. Its very uplifiting too however in a way, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

I've read several light novels, Suzumiya Haruhi series, ToraDora, Zero No Tsukaima, Fate/Zero, Kara No Kyoukai and a tiny bit of Spice and Wolf.

I'm working on Toradora! and parts of Spice&Wolf (with occasional lunges for someone else's translation). Otherwise, I've got SHnY translated book 1 I've read.

The original Gundam novel and that is about it, quite different from the TV show.

In the past I always had an NDS in my pants pocket. But now I have a Japanese light novel there instead. Great for long commutes to school.

The amazing thing about Japanese books is that they can be as portable as a handheld console, while at the same time be potentially more entertaining.

I read light novels in Japanese; the translations are sometimes so lame. I'm also planning on getting my hands on a few normal books, too, so I don't forget my Japanese...

Kara no Kyoukai doesn't have a fan translation, right? Pretty impressive, considering the kanji usage in that book scares me.

It did have a fan translation but it was removed when Del Rey Manga, A unit of Random House, licensed it.
