I find it funny that Riku and Sora aren't already considered keyblade masters considering what they've went through

Sora saved the worlds from darkness twice, but he still needs to take a mark of mastery exam

Nope. Armor of the Master and No Heart are Final Mix only bosses. There's also a new Disney boss Monstro the Whale. They're all fought in the Mirage Arena.


Then there's the "true" final boss of BBS which is fought at the end of the Secret Episode with Aqua:

Skip 17 minutes in if you're only interested in seeing the boss. The player loses to it but at least you get to see what it actually is.

Seems kind of unfitting, really... would have made a cool boss in BBS2, but it doesn't mesh with the rest of BBS very well, and the whole "it's some kind of beast" deal isn't as emotionally charged as most KH end bosses are.

Oh well. If it was too awesome I'd have to pick this up and play the game all the way through for the third time, and I think that's way too many runs of the same worlds...

Just finished the game and it was awesome. It was cool since it was a prequel and all.

There was a big lack of Final Fantasy. All we had was Zack. A bit disappointing.

I was surprised there was no connection to Sora from anyone. All we had was Riku and Kairi. And how does Kairi make to the Destiny Islands and all? Aren't the worlds locked or whatever. Oh, and how could Sora even think of living a number like Kairi alone. Tsk, tsk. It would be sweet if she joined them with a keyblade as well in the future.

Why was nothing about Ventus concluded? Is he still sitting somewhere in the Castle of Oblivion snoozing away? And I guess Terra is dead now?

Kairi made it to destiny islands due to a spell aqua cast on her remember.
Since terra becomes the new xehanort sora and friends know, he became Ansem seeker of darkness and xemnas and since sora defeated both, the original xehanort will return meaning terra is likely to come back as well

And I am reading on Wikia and it feels like I missed out on a lot while I played. Is it true that the person Ventus speaks with in the beginning of the game is Sora? Do they explicitly say that somewhere or something?

Lastly, I think I have to play the first two games yet again.

Yeah, since at the end of Ventus story mode he says something like "I remember, it was you" and in the Secret ending, Sora is talking to Ven at the end in his heart station.

And now Ventus is with Sora? I feel like they didn't put enough attention on Sora. He is the main character and Aqua didn't even say he was special or anything when she met him. I find that a bit odd.

Sora was actually never special in the first place. Riku was the one supposed to use the Keyblade in the beginning thanks to Terra, but since he gave his heart to darkness in the first game, the Keyblade rejected him and went to Sora since he had Ven's heart inside him.

In other words, Sora's the hero when he was never supposed to be. He just sort of got pulled into everything and things ended up the way they did. =p

Not quite true. Sora is special since he completed Ven's heart when he born or something like that. This is the first scene of BBS if you don't remember. And at the end, he has Ven's heart which is why he can use the keyblade after it rejects Riku, Roxas has a heart and can use the keyblade, since Sora had two hearts, and Xion appears with Ven's appeareance at the climax in 358/2 Days.

Remember how Riku had said he was supposed to have the keyblade in KH1? Now you know why It's probably what I liked most in the game, the ability to connect to the previous ones and get me thinking.

Riku was just supposed to have the Kingdom Key because of a formality. Riku touched the Keyblade of a Keyblade user while Sora didn't. Terra came first to Destiny Islands, saw potential in Riku, and performed the ritual with Riku. Aqua came to Destiny Islands last, saw that Terra already gave someone the ability to use a Keyblade, and decided not to give one to Sora because one was enough.

Multiple keyblades between friends meant heated competition between friends that could possibly separate them like Aqua and Terra were separated, and Aqua didn't want that.

However, circumstances changed, as Riku's heart became unstable tainted by darkness, so Sora received it instead. Whether that is because of Sora's connection to Ven, a Keyblade user, or because Sora is special himself, or both, we do not know.

However, that does not mean Sora's heart is not special. His heart was the one that mended Ventus's when it was split into two by Master Xehanort. At the end of Ven's story, Vanitas merges with Ven's heart again, so when Vanitas died, Ven's heart was broken... again.

In part of the Last Episode's ending, we see Sora speaking to Ven's heart. Ven expresses his gratitude for Sora giving him a second chance and says that he will have to sleep again. Then we see the heart go inside Sora. That means Ven's heart returned to Sora after Vanitas's defeat, which is why his body won't wake up.

Ven's story explains why Roxas looked like Ven and how he could use a Keyblade, despite being a "Nobody": because Roxas had Ven's heart. When Sora stabbed himself in KH1 to release Kairi's heart, Ven's heart was also released, and that's what formed into Roxas. Of course, because of Ansem the Wise, Roxas returned to Sora in the end, so Ven's heart is back with Sora.

That the beauty of making a prequel, you can connect anyway you like and it's always fun. It's why I like Ven's part the most, it had the most connections (that I noticed).

There's technically no concept of death in the Kingdom Hearts series, but Terra-Xehanort not existing because his Heart and Body were separated does mean that he was functionally "dead".

And with Kairi touching Aqua's keyblade in BBS, that would make her Keyblade Master too, right ?

It just means she inherited the ability to use the Keyblade (as you see in a small scene in KH2), only in her case it was accidental. You're not an actual "master" until you undertake the Mark of Mastery exam and pass.

There's only been 5 masters shown in the series so far. Eraqus, Xehanort, Yen Sid, Mickey and Aqua.
