I was holding out on watching the first episode until it had the OP/ED (OPs and EDs are a necessity to me. Not having them is like a book without a cover.) and the first AT-X airing covered that. The ED has enough video game effects applied to it to have sprites flashing in front of my eyes. No OP just yet, but I suspect that'll be next week.
Pretty good first episode. Every time I see it, I like the Shaft style. It makes the universe feel more full, somehow. Mariya makes a pretty good woman, even moreso thanks to Yuu Kobayashi's voice acting. Last edited by Midonin; 2009-01-01 at 01:30. Reason: Making myself clearer |

I truly do agree with this statement. The Akiyuki Shinbo style gives the show that extra edge that it needed for the adaptation to be successful. Sure i would have loved this adaptation if it was done by another studio and director, though we all know that having it the way it is adds a completely new extra layer to the show, and i love it.

Oh well, lets see if the characters are interesting enough to keep me in. Sensei drew me in for the first season at least just because of his character, but even then it wasn't enough to keep me going for the second.

Absolutely don't like. I expected more and a bit dissapointed now. Strange humor, not funny for me, classical shoujo manga dialogs (in chibi style here) and bad plain visual style. Characters are good, btw, but nature scenes are awfull.
Not mine. I will check something else. Last edited by Littm; 2009-01-01 at 00:37. |

From the very first few scenes of the anime there was something knocking on the back of my head saying how the way things are animated are strangely familiar. Surely, enough I found out after watching episode one that Mr. Shinbo(sp?) is doing the animating. Nooooooooo! No offense, but Shinbo's style is just weird. All the anime he's help make all start of normal but then the animation just gets really weird later on and is distracting. *sigh*

Yeah... That's gotta be one of the hottest traps ever. My heterosexuality is in danger!!
Seriously, I love it though so far. I'm a HUGE SHAFT/Shinbo fan, so that's a big added bonus that they're helming this. Also, I'm in love with the ED theme as well, which was also interesting to find out that it was a cover of an older song. |

By the way, this probably won't be a surprise to many who recognized the publisher and the studio, but Media Factory sent out its solicitations for the DVDs for this show recently, which confirms that the show (or at least this season of the show) will have 12 episodes (released on 6 DVDs).
(And yes, to the person who mentioned this earlier, the show did get accidentally listed on AS earlier. Fixed now.) |

SHAFT has been engaged to produce sequels to many of their recent 12/13-episode shows, so I certainly think it's possible. But, really, it comes down to the publisher, production committee, and sales. That being said, I'm not sure if there is enough source material to produce much more right away. They could always do a sequel next year if this one proves popular enough, and so on.

god > *, but that can be said about most any role Sawashiro Miyuki plays.
Kobayashi Yuu's polar acting is really solid and the antics/comical aspects are really well done. Have manga vol 1~4 sitting in my duffel bag waiting to be read once I hit the states in a week and a half...looking forward to both the manga and anime. Really good start to winter '09 compared to fall '08 which had close to nothing worth watching in the first week of season start. |
