I have been seeing this thread a few days ago and i have also got theories about the culpris taking note from the three episodes:

If we start eliminating the people killed and the two incidents of kinzo´s room , and also taking note of ep 2 and 3, I think that the most posible culprits andaccomplices could be

-Doctor Nanjo: he was killed by an unknown murder in Ep 3 and survived until very late in Ep 1, why do I think he could be a culprit? You know ryukishi07 made in higurashi All you see could not be as it appears, specifically the watanagashi arc, becuase ( I havent readed the visual novel, all i know is from anime) the Sonozaki swap also mixed with the disappearance of Satoko and Rika created and endless trouble of who is the guilty one, and everyone thought that was Satoko due to her "killing spree"( her parents, aunt and brother ), but instead was shion.

If we see, Eva survived unti the end, something that still wasnt accomplished by none, she killed Nanjo as he could have been the culprit, and due to paranoia that was probably made by Lambdadelta as she can kill beatrice´s "endless", so she made herself pass as kanon´s voice to "save" jesicca from Beatrice/Eva Beatrice/X when she resurrects, as probably she identified herself with jessica due to both being somewhat the heirs of ushiromiya and female, and because all i heard from ep3 was from this thread i still dont know exactly the plot, but she latter kills battler, which could have been her madness reaching the peek, and then beatrice resurrects.

Coming back to the theme, doctor nanjo is a potential culprit due to give a brief autopsy when the first twilight and the others arrive, probably as my theory says, he was bribed or blackmailed by other accomplices to negate that those who died have been poisoned in fear that he would have discovered it and then killed, also if WE remember, in the first two games he has been killed by the stake of belphegor (sloth), so if he was an accomplice, he never did nothing and the others took care of it, but in Ep 3 he was never sent to be killed by belphegor, rudolf was, so in this episode his sin of sloth wasnt very great and wasnt chosen by the devil roulette because he was the culprit, but then comes Lambda ( supositions ) and makes Eva psycho and kills nanjo, thus saving herself and beating beatrice in that game. But of course, he needed an accomplice to kill George, someone who hasnt crossed my mind yet. and i wont touch the theme of Ep 2 as i see it harder.

-Kumazawa/Virgilia: as someone probably deduced from nanjo, in Ep3 she was killed in the first twilight, thus if she was nanjo´s accomplice an then she died,
she changed the modus operandi completely, as the wounds from ep3 seemed cleaner, probably nanjo did it with someone else from the family and X ushiromiya tried to prevent further discoveries in the police investigation making everything more clean, that is a pro of kumazawa´s guiltyness.

Other thing: in the first two games she always died with Nanjo, so i think that they are killed by the culprit/complice because and unknown motive, but as she is also virgilia and probably she wanted to revive beatrice for the powers of the endless witch not to pass away, she probably offered herself as sacrifice. Also, lets come back with stakes: Kumazawa´s is envy, so kumazawa who believed in beatrice tried to go to the golden landfor the envy she held for her madame and her alter ego Virgilia also tried to revive beatrice, also being so much time in the mansion and as she knows very well the rooms she could be the " mastermind " of the famous locked rooms, also dont forget kanon-kun´s death in Ep 1.

-Genji: simply: the ring of the ushiromiya head and "Ronove", also, kumazawa and nanjo could have needed another accomplice for everything.

-XXXXXX Ushiromiya: the accomplice of Nanjo in ep3. High probability that is krauss as rosa could have told him about the gold.

- KINZO: yes, kinzo could be guilty too, why? his time is ending and he wants to see beatrice, the last year he was told he had three months and he is still alive, THREE MONTHS, if he can use magic, he could be the culprit of all the magical efects and the first twilight, dont let the burning corpse fool you. As rosa said, there is another hidden manor in the forest. So for the corpse:

-There is a DEAD corpse burning in the boiler room in X twilight
-The corpse has 6 fingers in a/both toes
-The Ushiromiya family has history of six toes on a foot
-None of Kinzo´s children has six fingers in a foot

If we place all this together and kinzo´s past history, he could have a hostage from the branch family of the ushiromiya with his same age, he had him in the forest manor killed him as a sacrifice for X twilight in order for him to survive to see beatrice, this theory isnt very convincing because any of the sibling/servants could have done this, but it is probable that kinzo did in his madness for beatrice.

BEATRICE DOES EXIST BECAUSE OF THE BAR OF GOLD KRAUSS HAD IN EP1 AND THE CAPITAL KINZO USED TO BUILD THE USHIROMIYA NAME, so she could have "died" and the present ritual is for her revival, magic does exist but not neccesarly has to be a witch who is causing this trouble, thats why beatrice simply doesnt says: Witches exist in this island.

Now, Kumazawa, Nanjo, Genji and Kinzo could be working together, kumazawa for her envy and virgilia, nanjo to achieve inmortality in the golden land ( everyone wants inmortality),Genji did it to please his master and Kinzo for obvious reasons. In ep1 maybe some complicce noticed the receipt in the door and suggested kinzo in a card that he must hide, also kumazawa could be responsible for Kanon, and the three died murdered almost at the end, probably they were killed by kinzo as the stakes have magical engravings and with his ilussionary magic he made maria think that was beatrice, as a proof we know that he never testified that he gave maria the umbrella because probably he felt that as she also liked black magic they are alike ( althought previous commentaries dont show that), and at the endroll we know that Natsuhi´s nobility was praised by the witch, it was either kinzo or the newly resurrected beatrice that killed her as kinzo also praised her before, they swapped the guns and the children were eated in beatrice´s banquet before ( as i think ) she would have leaved the island with kinzo as when she was in her human form she wanted to leave rokkenjima forever.

Theories for ep 2 and 3 are too hard and i prefer waiting for ep4.

By the way... isnt it true that there will be a Umineko Daybreak?

P.S.: I would like knowing Exactly what happened in the tea parties of ep 3.

Hah. I've never actually suspected Nanjo or Kinzo, for some reason. I agree that either of them could be responsible for the killings (there is a lot of evidence against them), but I doubt that they are the masterminds.

Nanjo is quite important, though. He's the only one who can accurately determine whether a person is dead or alive. As such, he's quite a valuble playing piece for the mastermind, and a great person to have on one's side. And of course, he can also be easily discarded...

And I thought Kinzo pretty much sucked at magic?

I actually don't like using the stakes as any kind of solid information. After all, that would be admitting that the stakes actually did have a part in the killings (or, that they were real, and thus kind of opposing your non-magical theory.

I don't agree with Doctor Nanjo being the culprit (atleast not in the first 2), though there's a possibility he could of been the(or a) culprit in Episode 3, seeing as he has a bunch of times where he lacks an alibi.

I mostly think Nanjo is an accomplice/bribed, not really a culprit, however.

This is impossible, if we assume the red text is correct. Eva-beatrice says in red that Jessica, Battler, or Eva didn't killed Nanjo.

Easy Answer: Eva couldn't have done this unless Battler was in on it too, because Eva-Beatrice says in red that Eva was under Battler's watch the whole time.

Complicated Answer: The game never really has much Eva and Jessica interaction, aside from at the end of Episode 3, but seeing as how Jessica suspected Eva, I don't think we can really say much about their relationship.

However, Eva probably really hates Jessica for a few reasons.
- Eva despises Natsuhi
- Eva wants George to become the head, so basically, she would see Jessica as an obstacle to that.
- Jessica encourages George and Shannon.

So I doubt Eva would symphasize at all with Jessica.

I actually found that scene weird, as Jessica kept accusing Eva of being the culprit and Eva kept saying she wasn't. I think the most probable thing that happened is that
A.) She had Battler alone so she would kill him. This is improbable because Eva was the only one of the four with a gun, so she probably could of easily killed all 3 of the other ones.
B.) Battler found irrefutable proof that Eva was the culprit. I find this one more likely.

Translation of the dialogue:
"Yo,......You're the criminal... Eva-oba-san...!!!"
"Kukkukukukukuku......,ahhahahahahahahahahaha! !
You realized it too late, Battler-kun!!"

Although Bern did come down and interact with someone, I don't get why Lambda would do the same, as she just seems to want to let Beatrice deal with the "game". I don't really see her directly interacting.

I don't get what you're saying here. In the first part I think you mean she hired Nanjo as an accomplice, but why would someone trying to prevent the police from discovering the culprit be proof that Kumasawa was the culprit?

I find this unlikely.

For one thing, I don't think Kumasawa is aware that Virgilla was "in her". Specifically in Episode 1 and 2 she doesn't seem aware of this.

Also, despite how evil Virgilla seemed in the end, I would like to point out that she gave Beatrice the advice that lead up to the whole ploy AFTER her fight against Beatrice and AFTER she gave Battler advice.

Therefore, I think she really does regret the path Beatrice toke, and I see no reason why she would want to become a sacrifice to revive Beatrice.

Beato was telling Bern that she found a wonderful piece, and Lambda was trying to make Bern spit out who the piece was, but in the end she didn't, and Bern left.

After this, Wolfda(bad pun, I'm so sorry to anyone who reads that), threatens Beatrice, telling her that even though her board is "perfect" the player isn't, and tells her that if she doesn't keep Bern trapped in this "game" until Bern finally gives up, she'll send her back to the kakera where she was merely a miserable human, which Lambda apprantly pulled Beato out from.

Spoiler for Hidden Tea Party:

In time chronology, this takes place 12 years after the whole affair of Episode 3.
In game chronology, this probably takes place a bit before the end of Episode 3.

Eva was the only one to survive the "Rokkenjima Witch Serial Murders", and is in a hospital, and very psychologically broken. Ange visits her, and Eva ends up giving her the Ushiromiya heritage (though she's doing it to make Ange miserable) And Ange questions Eva about what really happened on Rokkenjima, but Eva only taunts her.

Ange goes to the roof, thinking about her parents and Battler, and contemplates suicide to "return to them", before Bern shows up. Bern promises her she can get revenge, but she can't promise her that her family will return, as there is only a very very slim chance that they will.

And then Bern takes her back in time to the time of the last chapter of Episode 3, assumedly.

I don't think using the stakes in that way would neccasarilly mean admitting magic is doing the killings. The stakes could simply be "symbolic" of each sin, without really being magic.

Nanjo could be very implied also as he is always calm so he may know the murder, Kumazawa can be too, in ep1 due to the lack of sacrifices for the end, she could have slipped the card of beatrice with the triangle thing in order to kick sacrifices out of the room so could Genji kill them, but as she was kicked out she became .

I agree ALOT with Nanjo being one of the behind the murders. Nanjo doesn't really ahve that much of an alibi, has a vast knowledge on Kinzo's activities and paterns, knows the manor and everyone that lives on it pretty well, and as already pointed, has the power to say if a person is dead or not. Besides that... is a doctor. although it would be quite the coincidence if he was really behind it all. It would be too like Higurashi. :P Not ruling out this possibility so soon yet, though.

Some of the tricks and what nots in ep3 has been discussed quite a bit, if you just read up the pages before on posts those topics by various people. I'll give you a quick version of some of the ideas that people had came up with already, for the questions and points you made:

Eva: First of all we don't know if Battler is really dead or not. No red text confirmation. Also, just because "Eva" shot Battler, doesn't mean that "Eva" is the culprit. What I'm getting at is, just becuase "Mion" stabbed Keiichi in Watangashi-hen, doesn't mean "Mion" was the culprit.

LD's involvement: Do keep in mind that Umineko is a game between Beatrice and Battler, where LD and Berun can't do anything directly to affect the game besides as a reader. As Ryukishi07 puts it, "Readers like a supporters for soccer [matchs], they are just supporting the teams they like." Thus there hasn't been any direct involvement from LD or Berun, besides giving "advices", and Berun providing a "substitute player for the match"

-Kumazawa/Ginzo: You are trying to solve the mystery by mixing the fantasy in it...you have to pick one side and stick with it. As for the extra corpse, you have to take into account of the red text of 19th person doesn't exist claim. Timing is important, but you could be on the right track for the corpse.

-"Witches do exist": As crazysjd89 pointed out, Gold bars doesn't necessary equal to witches exist. Let me throw the question that Battler asked in ep3 at you. Where's the aftermath of the magical battles?

Your questions:
Nanjo's death: Timing is key here. Red text never confirmed that the moment Nanjo was killed, all those people were dead. In simplier terms, red text merely stated 15 people are dead, 3 are not. Nanjo isn't killed by these 3. So Nanjo could've been killed by 1 or some of the 15, then the killer(s) also died.

Golden land: Golden land crumbled in ep3 and disappeared into the darkness.

Change of importancy: No many changes, just some new story elements.

Beatrice's past: She was locked away in another house on the island, sneaked out with Rosa, slipped on the cliff and died.

2nd-8th: Besides Maria and Rosa, mostly just stabbed or shot. Maria was strangled, Rosa was pierced by the fence.

As for Nanjo...

Somehow I don't think he's a culprit. He might be a part of it, or used/threated/tempted by the ulprit tho. Reason being is that, the doctor is usually the first one to be suspected at these kind of mystery, which makes it kinda boring if it really is that way (that's why often the detective/sidekick is the 'doctor' who checks the time of death in mystery novels). Second of all, knowing Higurashi, we know that there's a good chance that he's made to look like the culprit. Just like how Irie was made to look like the culprit for the longest time, espeically that comment in the staff roll of Tatarigoroshi-hen

Its true.... Nanjo could probably be a simple victim.... but what about kuma and genji? they are high targets too....

I think theres a change here on the villain, because the way to kill is different from the other episodes... so this time theres a smarter/ big headed now who wants to defy everyone to see them fail with the number... personally i think that the connection for the number will show up in other ep OR you have to be HIGHLY analytical to discover it... as shion´s love for satoshi... no one could ever thought beacuse she was the manager of the team and returned to hinamizawa near satoshi´s dissapereance they could be in love..... something like that...

It could be a proverb from the bible... a pity maria isnt around... but if kyrie wouldnt have died i would suspect her... she would be able to challenge everyone and make tem look stupid..

As for mixing fantasy and crime... the same for oyashiro-sama.... in tsumihoroboshi it was showed that IT didnt exist but his existence was confirmed in minagoroshi-hen... also as umineko is a *continuation* of higurashi, if battler wants to prove that witchs doesnt exist he must nerve rack to solve higurashi

For nanjo´s murder.... must be one faking his dead... probably natsuhi and krauss had a housefight and killed nanjo as a coincidence but i´ve got something: ep1 was the only ep when the stakes were lenghted thoroughly ( from kanon ) what about if someone ( kyrie ) faked his/her death with a very short stake and blood from someone else? it is a cheap trick and he/she only has to wait´til everyone gets out to kill more people... but eva-beatrice confirmed their death and eva, battler and jessica didnt kill anyone... i think the culprit got harmed from natsuhi and krauss, then killed nanjo and died together with george... the only problem is jessica, this opened another slot for a culprit...


-Ushiromiya Natsuhi: she recently knew of the hidden gold... so she had to try beatrice´s ritual to press krauss´s siblings to solve the epitaph so because of the previous arrengement he could be even richer than bill gates! she had krauss working with her ( i havent readed ep 3 so i dont know the alibis) to kill the six servants as sacrifice as she maybe thought they were garbage and then suggested ( I DONT KNOW ) to solve the epitaph, as everyone tried and she didnt had news... she had to place more pressure killing rosa and maria ( saving eva for the end ) then kyrie and rudolf... then she had a discussion with krauss because he didnt love her or didnt appreciated her efforts with ended in killing krauss in a very quiet way, she then killed nanjo but couldnt do anything more due to jessica present, if a little moan escapes from her stabbing the stake jessica will get a very severe trauma, so she hided her for if eva becames berserk ( I dont know if jessica died, i would like someone tell me if she does) ... she then thought that to make Eva fell grief for what she did to krauss, to kill her son george which ended in both getting killed.

Now i need more answers, i have this questions:
-What happened to jessica after nanjo was killed?
-Was ever natsuhi or krauss body found? ( they could still be alive with the stake trick)
-Was any stake measured?
-Did beatrice ever said in red text: A 19th person doesnt exists?

Ryukishi answered a lot of questions regarding to Umineko
(But he didn't state them in red)
So in return, I noticed something...

Since it was in japanese, and I could not read japanese that well
But I was sure for one question, they were asking how to pronounce '0715'
Ryukishi only gave out hints as '07' is the same pronounciation as 'rei-nana'

So my guess would be, maybe it's something related to japanese words
like rei-nana-ichi-go...

I did think of that possibility. Usually one of the first things I try to look for if I see a string of numbers that are trying to relay a message especially if in Japanese. I tried my best to take various ways reading numbers to make sense of 07151129 that way, but couldn't. I'll post what I was working with. If Ryukishi actually did give that as a hint there is possibly I missed something.

There a many ways to read numbers in Japanese.

0 - (Rei, Zero) also in Japanese time 0 = midnight, 24 (doubtful of this number change)? If we use the hifumi counting, 0 might = 10, so towa? tou?
Not sure if in japanese O could be replaced for 0 like in English. But I think it still could be a possibility.

7 - (na, nana, shichi, nano) normally. It can also be read as tana as in tanabata.

1 - (Ichi, i, hi, hito) if we are to think 1 = 初　then tui, and sho are possible too

2 - (ni, fu, futa)

9 - (ku, kyu, kokono)


I couldn't think of anything comprehensible with this.

There might be other numbers meanings when group (eg pager code), but Umineko takes place in '86 so I don't think pager code would be likely at all.

The placement of 0 is interesting. Normally most of time people ignore preceding 0s. So possibly it won't make sense as is. Maybe you have to reverse it? Or is it an anagram and you have to unscramble the word puzzle?

That's is about how far I got when I took this approach. I couldn't see any possibly messages this way. The I thought the date->time->bible passage train of thought was easier to find a message as there was a (coincidental?) relation with the years and the Bible does seems something Ryukishi might pull up in his mystery with nearly everything magic being christian related in theme.

If we go with the biblical theme, then the hifumi counting is possible reading as there is a theory (not a very popular one but an interesting one, imho) that old Japanese and old Hebrew share the same linguistic roots.
