As much as I would really love to see another season of Accel World, I'm not sure if it's really in the cards. Not to sound resentful to SAO, since I really enjoy it too, but it's popularity and the money it rakes in means it's probably the more likely to get additional seasons than most shows. And the Kawahara work that's probably going to get more attention going forward, even if I recall Accel World's blu-rays selling well enough.
I guess it's more up to the production committee than anything else, and it would definitely be a nice surprise to see .

I really dont know what this anime dont gets a second season. The anime is very entertainement, the history is good, the animation is well done and the characters is very likeble and as far i know the BD sold very good. I think the author realy dont give the necessary attention for this series, because there is a lot of animes wrost than this that get a second or even a third season

So at this point I'd say the only thing stopping a season 2 is Love Live, so once they have finished the movie there is a strong chance that they will start doing a season 2 hopefully. |

quote from otakutale: The second season of Accel World would’ve been in production if it wasn’t for Sunrise’s busy schedule.
Kawahara was asked a question about the second season of Accel World. The response (loosely translated) was that Sunrise was too busy to handle the second season of Accel World, since Sunrise’s Studio 8 (the studio that animated Accel World) was extremely busy with Love Live! School Idol Project. It would create resource and scheduling issues if Accel World season 2 was being produced as well. Kazuma Miki, Kawahara’s editor and producer of the Sword Art Online anime, added in that “We are very eager to do a second season of Accel World and so are the fans. I will try my best to make it happen”. Kawahara states that he is also very adamant on the production of a second season of the Accel World anime. Another question was about A-1 Pictures handling the production of Accel World since Sunrise is busy and the series could tie into Sword Art Online. Kawahara responded that they were also busy. Surprisingly, Miki inputted that Kyoto Animation could animate the series since abec has a sister who works as a character designer at the studio. Mass hysteria ensued. |

Sunrise is ok, and so is A-1. They are doing what is best for the company, which is prioritizing cash cows like Love Live!, even though those series are fan-service series. However, the mention of KyoAni taking over for Accel World would be incredible. The production values will be off the charts. I would definitely love for KyoAni to take over.

I'm really happy to hear that there's a lot of interest behind a season 2 for Accel World, both from Kawahara himself, a producer, and the fans, and that the reason we're not getting it now is that Studio 8 is just too busy to work on it at the moment (same for A-1). Make me very much hopeful that we'll eventually see it one day, especially once Studio 8 is finished with their Love Live work .
So Abec's sister works for KyoAni as a character designer...and even worked on Kokoro Connect! Cool. Man, I just imagine fans would go crazy if KyoAni handled SAO or Accel World . Unlikely as it is though, considering KyoAni these days usually steers clear of adapting the major popular LN series and generally just pick and choose from works that have won their novel contests or catch their eye. Being a Shoji Gatoh work helps too . Though seeing them adapt SAO or Accel World would definitely be something else, and while I've heard criticisms for how KyoAni handle action scenes (which are a big element in both series, especially Accel World), the production values would definitely be impressive as mentioned by thundrakkon . Now I'm imagining a KyoAni animated Kuroyukihime and the SAO Heroines...would definitely be quite the sight, particularly Hime .

Makes sense actually. If you want to know what happens than Sunrise Studio 8 has to take more projects than they could handle — just look at Cross Ange. It's production issues are not because of money but because studio is too busy with other projects.

A new Accel World anime has been announced: http://dengekionline.com/elem/000/001/131/1131949/
However details are currently scarce, and it seems like it might be an original story, not an adaption of the novels. |

ANN: A stage event at the Dengeki Bunko Autumn Festival 2015 event revealed on Sunday that Reki Kawahara's Accel World light novel series is inspiring a new anime project titled Accel World: Infinite Burst. Kawahara is writing the story for the original new anime, and it will feature new characters. The event showed footage for the new anime, but did not specify its format.
