^ This is a moeblob show, so the inverse is actually true: the smaller, the better. (for me at least)

I can agree on this. I am quite stunned with the amount of attention this has got.

Mind you, its KyoAni..... so perhaps not much of a suprise.

It actually seems to be quite a trend these days for the second character to get as much, or more attention than the lead. Tomoyo and Kyou in clannad were close to Nagisa in the polls, Mai in Kanon rated the highest (if i remember correctly) and who can forget Hinagiku of Hayate no Gotoku winning easily the poll and also stealing the end theme for the second season all to herself.

I was tired of always cheering on the second character but it seems like they are now in the spotlight

That's why it's no longer cool to cheer for the second character these days. The in thing is to cheer for the fourth character. You know, you have to be ahead of the times and all

Go go Mugi

Bu that's the thing, all four members of the band are the main characters in this. There's no second character out of the four.

It's the same with shows like Lucky Star, Hidamari Sketch, Manabi Straight and so on.

Somehow I doubt that panty shots are going to make it to the DVDs. We're talking about KyoAni here, not Gonzo.

Doubtful, IMHO, even in Lucky Star and Manabi Straight it is easy to see who are the stars, and who are the supporting cast among the main 4/5. The only surprise in Manabi Straight is when you realize Mikan is more important than what you make her out to be, but nothing major. It is more balanced in Hidamari Sketch, that much i'll agree and that is a feat in and of itself, given that in character oriented series there will almost be someone the author tends to favor more, and that thus receive more attention than the others. in HS you can say that Yuno and Miyako tend to shine more than their upper classmates, but considering the overall picture I'd still call it well balanced out. I guess it'll be interesting to see wheter KyoAni manages to balance out the cast in this 4-Koma iteration, because at least in LS they didn't succeed in that respect.
