Honestly, most of the changes are just fluff. Tags are the only feature that might prove to be useful sometime in the future, but I believe it'll need to be tweaked a bit (editable by anyone = prone to vandalism).
Other than that, everything's just aesthetic and superfluous in order to keep us a little bit more entertained with some changes. Oh, and the Bookmark thingie at the bottom of a page needs to go. I can reach for my browser's bookmark button just fine.

The point is not to add to your own bookmarks. To make the use clear I have enabled some of the other possible targets, though if the response continues to be wholly negative it is likely we will remove it. Personally, I am ambivalent.

I see now that the changes are part of an overall vBulletin upgrade. On the face of it, they seem to be trying to turn their platform into a social network - I'm not too keen on that prospect. But maybe that's because I'm an old fuddy-duddy who needs to move with the times. I guess we'll soon see how useful these new features might become. Meanwhile, thanks to my new (and empty) friends sidebar, I feel so very ronrey~~ |

I personally like the the tag system. A similar system's used on Nico Nico Douga (JP version of YouTube), where each video can have up to 10 tags and the uploader of the video can tag lock up to 5. It makes searching videos of the similar themes much easier, and sometimes some of those tags are pretty amusing/touching even if they doesn't serve as a searching function.
I say maybe limit each thread's tag to around 6 or so, while maybe only a mod that's requested to tag lock can lock tags that's relative to the thread? Not sure if that'll require reprogramming the whole tag system or not, or if you guys are even gonna keep the tag system, but I do think it can help on searching similar-themed threads, especially on a huge forum like this. Edit: Forgot to mention, the tags on Nico, unless locked, can be removed by anyone. Last edited by Asamidori; 2008-05-25 at 10:42. |

I also like tags, but if people start using it to express their opionins than what it really is (like the demographic type of tags I mentioned above), then I would prefer there were no tags at all.
No it wasn't me that added the harem tag >.< lol

*MUST RESIST URGE TO TAG THIS THREAD AS "MADNESS"...* >_<
"Bookmarks" doesn't seem like a useful feature for a forum like this. At least, not the "submit to Digg" thing anyway... Also, agreeing with everyone else about the new user profiles; old style was much better.

I dislike the bookmark bar, but otherwise it's good. Though it'd be nice if the tags and bookmark bar could be disabled in user prefs. Kind of in your face between last post and the text box for a reply. I'm sure I could get used to it, but having the option to turn them off would be great. ^^
