Well, there's the recent growth of anime/manga culture in the US. I guess an important factor is that Japanese studios are directly pushing for American co-productions since that stuff actually makes money (i.e. Gonzo recently announced plans to concentrate primarily on two types of shows: highly otaku-centric stuff and hip American-style titles). While anime DVD sales are generally struggling in both Japan and the US, shows like Afro Samurai and Witchblade have done relatively well.

Did you read the article? It's a promotional DVD for the 2nd movie. Besides why wouldn't they make this. They have worked with American producers before on Batman series. Japanese studio's also did animatrix.

Well no actually, I didn't read the article, lol.

As for why I wondered why they were doing this after al this time, I asked that because Batman is decades old. If they were going to make a full-blown Batman Japanese anime (not just an animated series with Japanese participation), why didn't they make one before? (remember that I asked this question before I found out that it's supposed to promote an upcoming movie )
