The way she was holding the sheet to her when she got up implied she wasn't wearing anything. I admit I would have liked it if they were both in the bed and like cuddling or something. No, that's not weird. I just like sappy things from time to time.
I sort of wish we'd gotten the part where she yelled at him to take his clothes off because it was stupid to stop now, but that would have made it even clearer I guess and they seemed to be trying to simply suggest what happened.

A fact of reality boys should know: Unless the girl is masochistic or has very loose-fitting ones, she would usually not sleep with a bra on. There are of course personal preferences, but usually bras does not help with getting a good night's sleep due to the pressure it puts on the chest. That is a major factor in women's nightwear being looser around the chest.
Taking this into consideration, Asuna sleeping topless is not at all a sure way of implying a round of nightly passion. Furthermore, assuming the activities of Chapter 16.5 was replicated, there are quite a few problems to overcome (bedding, moral code override, general fatigue) to make it believable that the scene in Episode 10 is that of the aftermath. |

Besides the obvious "waking up topless" that was shown, you can see all the subtleties that were in their expressions. Kirito tenderly poking her sheet with a warm smile; Asuna waking up with such a tender expression not uncommon with a fresh non-virgin towards their partner; and compare that to how she acted just before when she wasn't even fully naked.
I'd say A-1 did a great job with the PG-13 sex. Older people know exactly what happened while the younger crowd that doesn't "get it" would be left wondering. I think the way they pulled that is by having Kirito fully clothed. |

I have to agree with Dann of Thursday. What truly ticks me off and thus has me being a unbeliever is how there is a large gap between what should have happened after the scene of Chapter 16.5 and what was actually shown in Episode 10. Perhaps it's the attempt at being PG-13, but overall the scene comes out as only those who want to believe there was a certain activity would actually get the reference.
And this is coming from a romanticist who unabashedly WANTS Chapter 16.5 to be canon. |

Even if they didn't have sex during the episode, does anyone think they didn't do it during the credits? The only possible way Kirito didn't get nookie that night is if he's using Asuna to hide his feelings for Klein.
You know, my one disappointment with ALO was at the end when Sugou starts ranting about how he'll take Asuna's virginity twice, once in the virtual world and again in reality. I really wanted Asuna to distract him by saying something like, "Sorry, but there's a slight problem with that plan." |

I'll be honest, I've never actually read the whole chapter because I didn't feel like reading porn. However, even in the basic novel without the chapter I found it completely obvious that they had sex. There was no ambiguity whatsoever. That was just the classic TV way of showing that two people just had sex. |

More like "Ah, it might have happened. Would be nice if it was true." The way things went in the novel, never mind the existense of Chapter 16.5, turned it into "DAMNIT JUST WHY ARE THEY IMPLYIHG IF THEY'RE GOING TO RUIN IT!?!?!?"

In the novel we go from Asuna explaining to Kirito how to have sex in SOA to them waking up in bed together. I can't really see any ambiguity there at all! It's also mentioned later that whiile they had two beds so did they only use one of them most of the time.

But yeah it was obvious for those who were looking for it. And subtleties are what makes SAO fun to read and watch no? So A-1 did a great job managing to cram a lot of development into 20 minutes while making it not feel rushed at all.

Reminds me of one white collar episode where Sara Ellis wakes up in Neal Caffrey's bed and slinks out wearing one of his shirts and his hat. It was extremely obvious that yes, they had sex.
Anyway... YES! FINALLY! I have had enough of wishy washy pratagonists and couples. Finally, a relationship upgrade with no reset.
