Not what you expected, huh? Sad truth is that Nanoha is a very very small niche anime. Conventions mostly focus on merchandise of large, well known anime and maybe if you're lucky some small stuff of lesser known anime. I know I was absolutely ecstatic when I managed to find one single Nanoha figurine on my last Chibicon.

At Katsucon, Otakon, and AnimeUSA over here in the Maryland-DC-Virginia area, only the most minimal of Nanoha-related merchandise was found. In particular, square pillow covers of StrikerS-era Nanoha and Fate. There was little else to be seen. Of the conventions, I've seen only two Nanoha-related cosplay: Eva in Chrono, and Manoha glomping me.

You won't find much in ANY con. This is because MLGN isn't actually a popular anime, compared to shounen materials like Naruto, Final Fantasy, etc. Plus, it was only recently released to American audiences. Shops will sell what is in demand, and unfortunately, Nanoha isn't.

True, I was expecting a wider base of merchandise and stuff, not a Naruto/Bleach/Death Note/Final Fantasy monopoly. I did see an artbook or two in several of the imports booths, but I'm strapped for cash and had to conserve what I had, so I didn't get either one.

Thankfully there's an abundance of Gurren Lagann material here; I got myself a wallscroll of the Dai-Gurren skull emblem for my room, and a rubber keychain accessory for about $7. There's also about six or seven Simon/Yoko/Kamina cosplay trios running around piercing any heavens they can get their hands on, and one adult!Simon/AntiSpiral!Nia duo. Good to know the show is catching on Stateside.

There are some really crazy cosplayers out here though; no sign of ManFaye or any 300 pound Sailor Senshi, fortunately, but I bumped into KOS-MOS Ver. 4 with a plastic and styrofoam G-Shot made to scale (I think), complete with red color contact lenses. Yesterday there was a scantily-clad catboy running around freaking people out, as well as a remarkably accurate Bridget crossplayer who I found more amusing than creepy for some reason.

One more thing: is it normal to wait ten minutes to get a pass at the door? I have friends in my anime club who tell horror stories about 12-hour lines, but when I showed up at about 1:00 PM Friday afternoon, there was virtually nobody in line for registration.

Well, like I said before I tend to write less like a full-blown novel-style thing; too measured for me. I tend to drop, for myself, into Lu Hsun or Dostoyevsky-type 'solliloqies', just for the style of it, of course, and the rest I think I'll just put down to my own modification of that kind of writing.

Granted, that style takes some getting used to (to tell the truth this is in fact an experimental style, so I'm still tweaking it XD), because you never know when I'm narrating and when I drop into the character's thoughts; the only clear thing is when exactly they're thinking, which is in the italics.

Ah well, I'll try to cut down just a little on the 'awkward phrases' -I suspect personally that it's the fact that I don't meld narration and partial solliloqy properly-, although I might have some trouble and may need some help; since my training is more in the art of the mask than of the pen, some phrases seem perfectly fine to me for acting on stage, but of course they may not sound so right on paper.

...but then again, is not real life a stage?

Ok. It took me a while to finish this character. The most difficult part is coming up of a name for the character. My options were:

In the end, I settled with Nerval. I don't know if it sounds cool but let me know if you think its lame.

His glamorous appearance is admired by a lot of people. He‘s extremely handsome to the point where some men started to doubt their sexuality whenever they see Nerval up-close.

A very quiet man and rarely speaks to others unless necessary. Very loyal to the kingdom and carries out his duties as a knight flawlessly. Compared to most people, Nerval can keep his composure regardless of the situation he faces most of the time. He rarely shows any facial expressions and almost impossible to be emotionally swayed by others. It is also difficult to tell what Nerval is thinking, like his response to other people’s statements since he always have the same look on his face. Nerval can also be stubborn at a times. He also doesn’t like to lose to those who are younger than him, namely, Asclei. Nerval just cannot stomach the humiliation of being outmatched by his own son and apprentice in swordsmanship.

Nerval uses watashi (I)to refer to himself and uses a formal form of language. He never utters vulgar words. He calls other people by their first names all the time.

Due to the complexity of creating void based spells, Nerval only knows a few amount of offensive type spells. Most if this spells are also difficult to maintain which is why he doesn’t have any large scale bombardment spells like most mages/knights. The one that he uses the most is Fatal Edge--which enables Nerval to cut through almost anything as long as the target isn’t several times larger than Veinslay’s Colossal form. This includes battleships, landforms, devices, and spells. Defending against it is impossible. Evading Nerval’s void spells is the only option left to his opponents if they don‘t want to be split apart or gain additional holes on their bodies. Since Veinslay can enlarge at will in just a matter of seconds, this makes Nerval the most challenging opponent of any mage/knight. Nerval is also considered to be a prodigy amongst the Aldian Knights. His speed, strength, endurance, and swordsmanship skills are far beyond most knights’ reach. Being a void caster makes him even more deadlier than any of the King‘s Lance members.

During the Battle of Oxfield, Nerval’s destructive capability was put into test. To enable the remaining leaders of Albion escape from the Aldian fleet assigned to eradicated them, Nerval had no choice but to come out to the open, revealing to the Aldian king that he‘s also part of the rebel group. This later resulted with Asclei and Lanos being sent to a special concentration camp due to their close relations with Nerval. The two were also stripped off of their authorities and ranks as King‘s Lance for almost two years until they were proven innocent of the charges. During the battle, Nerval made use of his void spells, enabling him to destroy over forty battleships and repel the enemy forces with the assistance of several of Albion‘s knights. Even with the arrival of seven King’s Lance members, Nerval single handedly repelled each one including the First Lance, Lantist Levandere Rey from going after Alfred and the others. Among the seven, five perished, Lantist survived but was dying of blood loss. Versa lost all of his upper and lower limbs in the battle as well.

Although the void element is the strongest type of affinity, it still doesn’t change that fact that the spells are made of mana. Extremely dense AMF, AMP, and Celenite are still able to weaken Nerval’s spell or even negate it. Anti-Magic Particles that are scattered in the atmosphere can also hinder the mana production of any mage/knight’s linker core if they are exposed to it for a long period of time. Nerval is no exception.

Veinslay

a long sword that’s about 9 feet in length. Like any Aldian devices, Veinslay doesn’t amplify its user’s magic’s strength or mana production. All it does is provide information support and advices to its user if the need arises. It also records the enemy’s fighting patterns and serves as a GPS to those who doesn’t have any sense of direction like Asclei.

Veinslay is one of Aldia’s very few Colossal Arms. A weapon that can enlarge at will in just a matter of seconds. These types of weapons are usually designed to take down fortresses and battleships. Most of these weapons can extend or expand to 100-150 feet at least. Vita’s Graf Eisen and Fate’s Bardiche Zanber are not considered as Colossal Arms since their expansion is temporal. After unleashing their attack, Roaring Storm Gigant Crusher and Jet Zanber, both devices returns back to its original size. Colossal Arms in the other hand can remain to its enlarged forms for long periods of time.

Veinslay is one of Aldia’s oldest blade and is considered to be one of Foresythe family’s heirlooms. The sword is known for its monstrous durability and sharpness. Even without the effects of Fatal Edge, Veinslay can still easily split battleships like Claudia in half very easily. Veinslay, however, cannot split planets apart since the blade can only extend to 500 feet at most.

It is debated whether Veinslay is a lost logia or not. The sword itself has been around for more than 1000 years. After the Ancient Belkan War, lots of documents and records were destroyed including the detailed history of the sword. It is also debated that Veinslay is probably one of the first weapons developed that’s made of a special alloy called, “Mythril.” Unlike weapons that are made of Celenite, Veinslay is selectively resistant to mana. In other words, it has high resistance against other’s people’s magic but doesn’t negate nor weaken its user’s spells like sword enveloping spells (e.g. Fatal End and Ascension)

Fatal Edge - a dark yellowish aura, envelopes Veinslay. When this spell is used, Veinslay is able to cut through most objects. The spell will not wear off unless the caster disables it or runs out of mana.

Fatal Ruin - 9 black orbs that emit’s a yellow light floats around Nerval. Each one releases a beam(About 1 inch in diameter) that will pierce through almost anything. The beams that are released will bend (1-2 times) if ever the target tries to get away from its line of fire. After the projectile (the beam) reaches 4 kilometers of travel, it’ll dissolves into magic particles.

Strength: SSS Speed: S Pierce: SSS Control: S

Fatal Judgement - Veinslay emit’s a dark, yellow light. After two seconds of charging, the light enveloping the blade is released, creating an arrow (about 48 inches in diameter)

Defensive Spells:

Shield - similar to round shield. It blocks physical and magical attacks to certain extent.
Field - A large sphere covers the caster. It blocks physical and magical attacks from every direction. The air inside are filtered by the walls of the sphere itself. Its very useful whenever the enemy uses poisonous gases to get rid of their adversaries.


Inscribed Spell:

Repulse Guard - Foresythe family’s unique spell that is passed down to its members. A round shield is generated in front of the user, which deflect the enemy’s attacks. Small scale shooting arts such as Divine Shooter, Plasma Lancer, Rail Shot, Crossfire Shoot, and Revolver Shoot are also repelled. Repulse Guard however, cannot deflect large scale, burst beam spells such as Starlight Breaker, Divine Buster, Trident Smasher, Blaze Cannon, and Storm Falcon due its incapability to expand to more than six feet in diameter. Wide-Area attack spells are also impossible to deflect. Although it cannot repel any large scale spells, Repulse Guard is still considered to be one of the most useful defensive spells in existence. It is most effective in close range combat since sword strikes will always bounce back, leaving the attacker wide open for a counterattack.

Like any other Inscribed Skill, Repulse Field cannot be learned through training. The spell can only be acquired, if the current Aldian Knight that possess the spell, passes it down to another individual, willingly.

Well, here on my end, I've been thinking about my Battle of Cranagan (Stop the Nukes!) events once more.

I was thinking... to up the stakes even more, I figure that a couple of ten kiloton nukes in a city the volume of los angeles with the density of new york is a little pittiful. If Daedalus is going for a true Decapitation strike on Cranagan, he needs something more.

So I'm adding another layer to his deception that almost wins him the fight.

The ten kiloton 'Shkval' russian nuclear torpedos he stole and armed with nuclear materials was just tier III of the deception.

The master stroke would be a THERMONUCLEAR (That's Fusion) device set up right on the HQ tower by drones... EVERYTHING else is a massive, multi-layer diversion.

It's a grunt that blows the secret so the heroes can win the fight. (Enemy grunt can't resist gloating that they win anyway... so Roland shakes a cryptic answer out of him, and they figure it out.)

What I'll do then, is use up all the Chekov's Guns I've been setting up for crash over the course of the story.

Up to what I have written now, I've given him his Hyperlance, his Domino Effect, and just added the Advanced Pattern and the Processor Power of EDI and the Maidens.... Then I've still got to give him his Breaker Shell.

The sequence will work as thus: After the Fusion nuke is discovered and it's location confirmed, he will take the shot, but he has to do so through amped wide field AMF at extreme range. Everyone else will be 'conveniently' spread out wide across the city searching for it. (So he's the only one who can take the shot in time, because we know the 'Countdown Clock is Ticking' at this point.)

So what he does, is put that ability of his to plan on the spot, something we've seen him do once in story so far... And he'll tie Battery into EDI and the Maidens for the processing power he needs to use the Advanced Magic Circle... then he'll load a Breaker Shell given to him by Cooper after the battle of McGreggor. (The other Chekov's Gun I haven't written into the story yet.)

This will give him access to his Ultimate Limit Break... the long range breaker attack: LANCE CANNON. (His normal heavy shot is the Hyperlance Extension, LANCE CANNON is the Sniper's Starlight Breaker of sorts. With all his Boosters and assists going, of course.)

The thing I need to figure out here, is how to bring his domino effect, into effect to WIN this scenario... Perhaps there's extra field gens around the final nuke, almost cutting off ALL magic... just something that makes it impossible to take a direct shot, but 'maybe, with a bit of creativity...'

And I still have to incorporate an exploding cartridge magazine into the plot... probably something to help finish of Zed-01.

Fatal Judgement - Veinslay emit’s a dark, yellow light. After two seconds of charging, the light enveloping the blade is released, creating an arrow that will pierce through any type of matter.

Inscribed Spell:

Repulse Guard - Foresythe family’s unique spell that is passed down to its members. A round shield is generated in front of the user, which deflect the enemy’s attacks. Small scale shooting arts such as Divine Shooter, Plasma Lancer, Rail Shot, Crossfire Shoot, and Revolver Shoot are also repelled. Repulse Guard however, cannot deflect large scale, burst beam spells such as Starlight Breaker, Divine Buster, Trident Smasher, Blaze Cannon, and Storm Falcon due its incapability to expand to more than six feet in diameter. Wide-Area attack spells are also impossible to deflect. Although it cannot repel any large scale spells, Repulse Guard is still considered to be one of the most useful defensive spells in existence. It is most effective in close range combat since sword strikes will always bounce back, leaving the attacker wide open for a counterattack.

Like any other Inscribed Skill, Repulse Field cannot be learned through training. The spell can only be acquired, if the current Aldian Knight that possess the spell, passes it down to another individual, willingly. Most preferably, someone related by blood since the chances of the linker core being damaged during the spell transfer is very low.

And I see that the magically-absorbent material of Gerbera Straight was once called Mythril.

Not much arguments from me except that he is one powerful dude, and that the slot of Fate's father has long been held by Zone Testarossa.

Btw, are you -Fate- with a new name? Cos the art style is rather familiar... Pardon me if I'm making a mistake.

Yes. Nerval is overpowered. Its intentional since he's considered to be Aldia's strongest knight in its history. Also, I'd like to mention that Nerval's fight in the Battle of Oxfield doesn't end with just the King's Lance. There's another group that would....I think....I'll stop here. It'd be a spoiler if I reveal anything more.

To be honest. I feel kinda happy that someone actually recognizes my art style.

The Aldian king is God and Nerval was his Jesus. You know, cuz Nerval decided to leave the Aldia'n ranks and join Albion.

Anyway, Aldia doesn't have much troops and ships compared to TSAB but they make up for it with their ridiculously powerful knights. Also, its not impossible to defeat Nerval. You know, I'd really love to explain more but it'd beat the purpose of writing the chapters of my fanfic. ToT

I'm just saying that as it stands, Nerval looks to be one hell of an overH4XXed character. I don't have any context in which to work with, so I can't really comment further without completely tearing into it blindly.

Also you may want to clarify what it means for "everything" in your descriptions. For all I could interpret that as, Nerval can cleave through the very essence of existence and bring about an inter dimensional apocalypse by tripping over a banana.
