Another day passed by us without anything eventful. We spent most of the time making rounds with a search group, but in general it was peaceful. Well, peaceful to an extent. The air at the base was alive and I could tell a few people were debating if they were pissed at us for losing their supply trucks or happy that we were fighting alongside them.

One thing was for certain, though, people were getting restless. Going without food for three days would do that, I suppose. Vivio and I were rationing out supplies just incase, and were about to break down and cook one of our M.R.Es.

I glanced over at my partner and frowned slightly when she touched her would again. She looked over at me and smiled to ease my worries but I still felt a little worry flash through my body. Her weapon arm was useless and unfortunately, she was more of a melee fighter than I was.

"What is it?" She asked lightly.

"Nothing."

"Don't worry, I'm fine."

"I know." She looked at me for a moment before hugging her knees. "Think they'll be here soon?" I asked her, trying to lighten the mood.

"Should be here today sometime, if their mission was completed in the time they said it would be their last communication before we left."

"Then it'll end today." I sighed out and went to reach for my drink but sirens blared to life around me and screams ran thick in the base.

"They have an army!" One of them yelled out. "countless! They're coming now!"

Vivio looked over at me and I nodded, running out into the fray. Several starving soldiers were trying to scramble together and fight, but it was clear when we saw them in their current state. Four days without food, there was no way they could fight off an army.

... If we didn't fix our mistake, everyone here would die.

Lovely. a peaceful chapter. But from the last sentence I smell the coming storm.

Keep going, some action coming, so vivio doing ok after she was wounded badly, now i can't wait till i see what these two up to, how the battle will go.

The gentle sunset touched his face, illuminating his handsome features with a dazzling glow. His sparkling eyes gazed fondly into hers as he leaned in closer, his hand rising slowly to her face. She gasped slightly in anticipation before his smooth skin lightly grazed her silk-like hair, softly caressing her locks. Closing her eyes and shuddering, she felt him move closer, whispering sweet honey words into her ears.

“Ever since I saw you I was entranced. Your very presence leaves my knees weak; your simplest words make my heart race. I couldn’t stand a life that didn’t include you. There’s something I need to tell you…”

Her heart was pounding in her chest, his every word filling her soul.

“…WAKE UP!”

The girl was awoken unceremoniously as her bed covers were dragged from the mattress, carrying her with them. With a groan, she rolled back and forth, gradually untangling herself from the mess of sheets until she was finally free. Groggily rubbing her head, she slowly opening her eyes and looked up at whoever had decided to act as her alarm clock. She instantly regretted it, though, as she was met with a very irritated looking blonde who seemed convinced that glaring daggers could, in fact, kill.

“Suzuka! I knew it; you stayed up late reading those trashy romance novels again!”

Chapter 1

The purple haired girl yawned deeply when she finally sat down at the table for breakfast. Arisa, looking slightly grumpy, slid a plate of toast and a cup of coffee in front of her. Even after waking it had still taken Suzuka several minutes before proper consciousness had settled in, and in that time Arisa had taken it upon herself to drag the sleepy girl up, dress her and shove her into the bathroom to get washed up. Needless to say, Suzuka wasn’t much of a morning person.

“I was at a really good part, so I really wanted to keep reading…”

“I keep telling you, you shouldn’t be staying up so late, it’s bad for your health.”

“I’m sorry.”

She reached over to grab a jar of jam, only to be stopped halfway. Looking down, she sheepishly noticed the reddish jelly already spread on the bread, and glanced back at her friend, who was nibbling at her own breakfast and staring off to the side. Mornings like had become fairly routine for the girls, ever since they started living under the same roof a year and a half ago.

It didn’t seem like very long ago when their final year at high school finally came to an end. Arisa had graduated top of the class, of course, and had easily passed her university entrance exams with flying colours – though not with the highest score, much to her dismay. Suzuka, to her credit, managed to pass all of her courses, and thankfully wasn’t held back a year. However, with her outstanding sports achievements she was scouted by several universities and offered a number of acceptance scholarships. Choosing familiarity over prestige, she picked a local campus, and thus the childhood friends once again found themselves enrolled in the same school together, at Uminari University.

Arisa, being a headstrong young adult, believed she should have some independence and decided that she wanted move out and live on her own. Her parents strongly objected, of course, and the ensuing arguments lasted for days. Somehow or other Suzuka got mixed into the discussions, and eventually her parents as well. In the end, all parties came to an agreement: the two girls would be sharing a two bedroom apartment, the assumption being that as long as Suzuka was keeping Arisa under control nothing too catastrophic could happen. However, much to everyone’s shock it was Arisa who ended up running the household, doing everything from cooking and cleaning to mothering Suzuka about her bedtime. Apparently somewhere in the week of debates she took the whole matter as a personal affront – and the fact that her parents would call every time they heard sirens only fueled it. By the time she stopped feeling insulted everything had already become habit.

Suzuka had adjusted well to her friend’s new responsible attitude, at least. After the first all night reading session she quickly realized that having someone keeping track of the time for her was a necessity.

“What’s so great about those books, anyway?” Arisa suddenly asked.

“They’re beautiful stories! It’s all about love blossoming in any circumstance, and the strength of the heart that can make it through any obstacles.”

“Hrmph, seems kinda corny to me.”

“What? You don’t believe in love at first sight?”

“Not in the slightest.”

“Breaking beyond social boundaries to follow your heart?’

“Sounds pretty stupid.”

“Friends realizing the feelings they’ve shared since childhood?”

“Way too fluffy to be real.”

“Mou, Arisa’s heart is so frigid.”

“Is not! I just don’t believe in stupid fairytales.”

“Love isn’t a fairytale!”

“Yeah, yeah, whatever. We should get going if we don’t wanna be late.”

The two grabbed their bags and left, still arguing as they locked their apartment up and walked off to the train station.

Arisa was idly spinning her pen in hand, staring at the ceiling as the droning voice continued on and on. She might have been an obsessive studier, but she still couldn’t stand to sit through boring lectures. She’d already gone through this chapter a week ago on her own, but her professor managed to somehow drain the life out of every word that he spoke. Sighing for the tenth time that hour, the blonde dropped her head onto her desk and glanced around the lecture hall. About a third of the students were latching onto every word the professor spoke, though how they did that was a miracle. The large majority weren’t paying attention in the slightest, choosing to doodle in clipboards, whisper to each other or send texts through the cellphones hidden under their desks. Then there were the few hiding in the back, using the time to catch up on precious sleep.

‘Wish Suzuka was here,’ she thought to herself, not for the first time. Things always seemed more fun when her longtime friend was around, for some reason. Unfortunately, despite going to the same university they enrolled into two completely different departments: herself into law and Suzuka into literature. It was inevitable, really, but even though she was in her second year Arisa still couldn’t help but feel odd having the purple-haired girl in the same classes as her.

The sudden scraping of chairs made the blonde jump, and she realized that the lecture was finally over. Slipping her notes and utensils into her bag, she rose to her feet and walked from the hall as well.

‘Hmm, what to do now,” she mulled as she left, “Suzuka’s practice doesn’t end for a couple hours. Maybe I could go watch? Nah, maybe I could go and meet up with –“

“Yo, Arisa!”

The girl turned as she heard a male voice calling out her name. She instantly recognized the short cropped black hair and thin glasses of her friend as he came closer.

“Yo, Taku!”

Yoshida Takumi, a Japanese language major in the same year as Arisa and Suzuka, and the first friend in the university that they’d made. It had been their first day on the campus and neither had a clue how to find their classes. Adding in a map that was disastrously ambiguous and they had a surefire recipe to getting hopelessly lost. During one of Arisa’s many tirades about the terrible state of architectural design in the country Takumi stumbled across the two, and like any gentleman offered to guide them. Of course, he wasn’t much better with the school’s layout, and the three ended up getting even more lost than they were before. In the end it was a security guard who managed to set them straight, and despite wasting several hours the girls had still come out of it with a new acquaintance.

“What’s up?” Arisa asked as she slowed to match strides with her friend.

“A bunch of us were going to grab a bite to eat. You wanna come with?”

“Can’t…I told Suzuka I’d meet her after practice.”

“I thought she was going to be busy tonight.”

“Where’d you hear that?” Arisa questioned, suddenly suspicious.

“I guess I misunderstood, then. Some guy in our Japanese course asked her out, and –“

“WHAT?!”

Several other students glanced their way, wondering what the sudden outburst was about. Takumi rubbed his ears a little; Arisa could be quite loud when she was properly motivated.

“Hey, it’s not a big deal, this guy just – “

“What happened?! Was it a love letter? A confession? Did he ask to meet her at the back of the school?!”

“No, it wasn’t – hey, hold it. What are you, a kid? He just walked up to her and asked her to dinner.”

Arisa reddened slightly at the kid comment, but it didn’t do anything to calm her down. With a frighteningly determined look on her face she performed a perfect about-face and marched back down the hallway.

“Come on! You’re gonna help me find this guy.”

“Hey, wait! What are you planning on doing?”

“Intervention!”

Mostly just an introduction chapter to get the majority of the setting down. A few minor notes about the characters:

- For those who haven't read the A's manga, Arisa being the brain and Suzuka the brawn is 100% canon. Yeah, I know, I was shocked too.

- Takumi for the most part will end up being Arisa's tsukkomi (Suzuka tends to go along with her antics too much)

Also, special request to anyone:

1) I can't decide what sport Suzuka is taking .
2) I completely suck at coming up with OC names. (even Taku's name is extremely tentative)

If people could PM me ideas for either of my problems, it would be immensely appreciated . You'll be credited with any ideas I use, of course.

“I guess I misunderstood, then. Some guy in our Japanese course asked her out, and –“

“WHAT?!”

Several other students glanced their way, wondering what the sudden outburst was about. Takumi rubbed his ears a little; Arisa could be quite loud when she was properly motivated.

“Hey, it’s not a big deal, this guy just – “

“What happened?! Was it a love letter? A confession? Did he ask to meet her at the back of the school?!”

“No, it wasn’t – hey, hold it. What are you, a kid? He just walked up to her and asked her to dinner.”

Arisa reddened slightly at the kid comment, but it didn’t do anything to calm her down. With a frighteningly determined look on her face she performed a perfect about-face and marched back down the hallway.

“Come on! You’re gonna help me find this guy.”

“Hey, wait! What are you planning on doing?”

“Intervention!”

Another day passed by us without anything eventful. We spent most of the time making rounds with a search group, but in general it was peaceful. Well, peaceful to an extent. The air at the base was alive and I could tell a few people were debating if they were pissed at us for losing their supply trucks or happy that we were fighting alongside them.

One thing was for certain, though, people were getting restless. Going without food for three days would do that, I suppose. Vivio and I were rationing out supplies just incase, and were about to break down and cook one of our M.R.Es.

I glanced over at my partner and frowned slightly when she touched her would again. She looked over at me and smiled to ease my worries but I still felt a little worry flash through my body. Her weapon arm was useless and unfortunately, she was more of a melee fighter than I was.

"What is it?" She asked lightly.

"Nothing."

"Don't worry, I'm fine."

"I know." She looked at me for a moment before hugging her knees. "Think they'll be here soon?" I asked her, trying to lighten the mood.

"Should be here today sometime, if their mission was completed in the time they said it would be their last communication before we left."

"Then it'll end today." I sighed out and went to reach for my drink but sirens blared to life around me and screams ran thick in the base.

"They have an army!" One of them yelled out. "countless! They're coming now!"

Vivio looked over at me and I nodded, running out into the fray. Several starving soldiers were trying to scramble together and fight, but it was clear when we saw them in their current state. Four days without food, there was no way they could fight off an army.

... If we didn't fix our mistake, everyone here would die.

oooohhhh... Poor Vivio... hope she gets well soon... but from what's happening I kinda doubt that....

With a groan, she rolled back and forth, gradually untangling herself from the mess of sheets until she was finally free. Groggily rubbing her head, she slowly opening her eyes and looked up at whoever had decided to act as her alarm clock. She instantly regretted it, though, as she was met with a very irritated looking blonde who seemed convinced that glaring daggers could, in fact, kill.

“Suzuka! I knew it; you stayed up late reading those trashy romance novels again!”

Chapter 1

The purple haired girl yawned deeply when she finally sat down at the table for breakfast. Arisa, looking slightly grumpy, slid a plate of toast and a cup of coffee in front of her. Even after waking it had still taken Suzuka several minutes before proper consciousness had settled in, and in that time Arisa had taken it upon herself to drag the sleepy girl up, dress her and shove her into the bathroom to get washed up. Needless to say, Suzuka wasn’t much of a morning person.

“I was at a really good part, so I really wanted to keep reading…”

“I keep telling you, you shouldn’t be staying up so late, it’s bad for your health.”

“I’m sorry.”

She reached over to grab a jar of jam, only to be stopped halfway. Looking down, she sheepishly noticed the reddish jelly already spread on the bread, and glanced back at her friend, who was nibbling at her own breakfast and staring off to the side. Mornings like had become fairly routine for the girls, ever since they started living under the same roof a year and a half ago.

It didn’t seem like very long ago when their final year at high school finally came to an end. Arisa had graduated top of the class, of course, and had easily passed her university entrance exams with flying colours – though not with the highest score, much to her dismay. Suzuka, to her credit, managed to pass all of her courses, and thankfully wasn’t held back a year. However, with her outstanding sports achievements she was scouted by several universities and offered a number of acceptance scholarships. Choosing familiarity over prestige, she picked a local campus, and thus the childhood friends once again found themselves enrolled in the same school together, at Uminari University.

Arisa, being a headstrong young adult, believed she should have some independence and decided that she wanted move out and live on her own. Her parents strongly objected, of course, and the ensuing arguments lasted for days. Somehow or other Suzuka got mixed into the discussions, and eventually her parents as well. In the end, all parties came to an agreement: the two girls would be sharing a two bedroom apartment, the assumption being that as long as Suzuka was keeping Arisa under control nothing too catastrophic could happen. However, much to everyone’s shock it was Arisa who ended up running the household, doing everything from cooking and cleaning to mothering Suzuka about her bedtime. Apparently somewhere in the week of debates she took the whole matter as a personal affront – and the fact that her parents would call every time they heard sirens only fueled it. By the time she stopped feeling insulted everything had already become habit.

Suzuka had adjusted well to her friend’s new responsible attitude, at least. After the first all night reading session she quickly realized that having someone keeping track of the time for her was a necessity.

“What’s so great about those books, anyway?” Arisa suddenly asked.

“They’re beautiful stories! It’s all about love blossoming in any circumstance, and the strength of the heart that can make it through any obstacles.”

“Hrmph, seems kinda corny to me.”

“What? You don’t believe in love at first sight?”

“Not in the slightest.”

“Breaking beyond social boundaries to follow your heart?’

“Sounds pretty stupid.”

“Friends realizing the feelings they’ve shared since childhood?”

“Way too fluffy to be real.”

“Mou, Arisa’s heart is so frigid.”

“Is not! I just don’t believe in stupid fairytales.”

“Love isn’t a fairytale!”

“Yeah, yeah, whatever. We should get going if we don’t wanna be late.”

The two grabbed their bags and left, still arguing as they locked their apartment up and walked off to the train station.

Arisa was idly spinning her pen in hand, staring at the ceiling as the droning voice continued on and on. She might have been an obsessive studier, but she still couldn’t stand to sit through boring lectures. She’d already gone through this chapter a week ago on her own, but her professor managed to somehow drain the life out of every word that he spoke. Sighing for the tenth time that hour, the blonde dropped her head onto her desk and glanced around the lecture hall. About a third of the students were latching onto every word the professor spoke, though how they did that was a miracle. The large majority weren’t paying attention in the slightest, choosing to doodle in clipboards, whisper to each other or send texts through the cellphones hidden under their desks. Then there were the few hiding in the back, using the time to catch up on precious sleep.

‘Wish Suzuka was here,’ she thought to herself, not for the first time. Things always seemed more fun when her longtime friend was around, for some reason. Unfortunately, despite going to the same university they enrolled into two completely different departments: herself into law and Suzuka into literature. It was inevitable, really, but even though she was in her second year Arisa still couldn’t help but feel odd having the purple-haired girl in the same classes as her.

The sudden scraping of chairs made the blonde jump, and she realized that the lecture was finally over. Slipping her notes and utensils into her bag, she rose to her feet and walked from the hall as well.

‘Hmm, what to do now,” she mulled as she left, “Suzuka’s practice doesn’t end for a couple hours. Maybe I could go watch? Nah, maybe I could go and meet up with –“

“Yo, Arisa!”

The girl turned as she heard a male voice calling out her name. She instantly recognized the short cropped black hair and thin glasses of her friend as he came closer.

“Yo, Taku!”

Yoshida Takumi, a Japanese language major in the same year as Arisa and Suzuka, and the first friend in the university that they’d made. It had been their first day on the campus and neither had a clue how to find their classes. Adding in a map that was disastrously ambiguous and they had a surefire recipe to getting hopelessly lost. During one of Arisa’s many tirades about the terrible state of architectural design in the country Takumi stumbled across the two, and like any gentleman offered to guide them. Of course, he wasn’t much better with the school’s layout, and the three ended up getting even more lost than they were before. In the end it was a security guard who managed to set them straight, and despite wasting several hours the girls had still come out of it with a new acquaintance.

“What’s up?” Arisa asked as she slowed to match strides with her friend.

“A bunch of us were going to grab a bite to eat. You wanna come with?”

“Can’t…I told Suzuka I’d meet her after practice.”

“I thought she was going to be busy tonight.”

“Where’d you hear that?” Arisa questioned, suddenly suspicious.

Fate smiled contently as she fluffed out the pillow she was holding after placing it in a freshly washed case. The feather containing case was sat down on the recently cleaned and vacuumed floor as she went to do the next one. Three pillows later and the blond smiled at the queen sized bed that her daughter slept on.

Vivio had been on a school trip for almost a week now and she was sorely being missed by the blond softy of a mother. The teenager's room was cleaned top to bottom and front to back...twice... by her and the laundry was done and hang dried in the light breeze flowing around the base thanks to a cold front moving by.

"Now, just to make her bed and I'll be done," Fate spoke aloud to herself while flipping over the silken sheet onto the mattress. One corner of the bed was lifted to tuck it in but her red eyes moved to follow a photograph that fell from between the mattress and box springs.

Reaching down, her cheeks colored at the naked picture of Syn in a very compromising position. "Oh my..." She shyly lifted the mattress and gasped at the collection of photos and DVD cases simply marked "Me and Syn" volumes one through... "TWELVE!?"

Fate dropped the mattress and tried to hurry and finish so she could forget what she had found but a persistent buzzing noise made her reluctantly lift the cushion once more and reach under it to turn off one of the number of vibrators that she didn't want to count. "She's my girl alright..."

"I'm home!" Vivio called out happily at the front door. "Did you miss me!?"

Nanoha walked into the living room and smiled at her daughter, who looked like she hadn't properly showered in two days and wearing wrinkled clothing with her hair in a sloppy ponytail. "You look like you had fun."

"It was awesome." The two hugged and chatted on the way to the teen's bedroom to drop off her luggage. "I thought it would be a boring trip but when we got there it was actually really fun."

"Did you take a lot of pictures?"

Vivio nodded. "Mmnn. I'll show them to you la...ter?" She paused and looked around her room, inhaling the scent of baked apple pie coming from a smell-good case planted somewhere in the area. "...Wow."

Nanoha looked down. "Oh, I didn't know your carpet was tan. I thought it was brown."

"Oh ha. ha. ha." Vivio tossed her bags in the corner and looked around, pleased. "I vacuum."

Nanoha leaned against the door frame and smiled as her daughter smelled one of her pillows. "Where do we keep the vacuum cleaner?"

"Um, in the hallway closet?"

"Wrong, we rent a rug cleaner whenever we do it. Fate's picky like that."

"...Oh." Vivio sniffed indignantly. "Well... Yeah. How was you-"

"Were."

"How were you while I was gone?" Vivio rolled her multicolored eyes. "You sound like Angel."

"Who?"

"Friend. Anyway?"

Nanoha laughed to herself. "Let's exchange stories over dinner? I think I heard Fate-mama come back home."

"Mmnn! Give me one moment to change clothes?"

"Okay," Nanoha smiled at her and closed the door to give her daughter some privacy.

Vivio quickly dropped to the ground and lifted her mattress, sighing in relief when she saw her photos pushed back enough so they wouldn't be seen when her sheets were changed. "Oh thank god..." She went to lower it back down but a second thought made her look again, reaching under it curiously. "Wait... Where's my rabbit? And my beads? I know I didn't let Syn borrow them..."

In the kitchen, Nanoha waved to Fate and leaned against the counter to watch the girl unpack the bucket of fried chicken and side dishes. "Vivio's home."

"Oh?" Fate blushed darkly and busied herself with the food. "Did she like her room?"

"Mmnn. She said it was nice."

"I see."

"You look red, fever?"

Fate smiled lightly and turned around to face her wife. "Well, I was thinking... of trying something fun tonight?"

Nanoha gulped. "Last time you said that, I found out I was allergic to latex..."

The blond chuckled deeply, making Nanoha meep.

Nanoha threw the ball up into the air and hit it across the tennis court before running to the spot she thought it would be returned to. Not disappointed, she knocked it back and hoped a few times in place before seeing the person run forward. 'Oh he wants to have a close match up huh? Okay, I can do that!'

Instead of lobbing the ball, Nanoha quickly shot it back, making it bounce up quickly. The girl she was fighting backhanded the yellow fuzzy ball once more, hitting Nanoha's side of the court and forcing the girl to act quickly,spiking the ball down and making it flying high in the air. Her opponent eyes it darkly, growling as the onlookers laughed at her attempt to try and hit it. Pissed, she swung hard as it bounced back up, ignoring that it was Nanoha's point, and gave a sick smile as the ball hit the retreating girl's head and making her fall face first onto the court.

Dazed, Nanoha rolled over and looked up at the mass of people gathering over her and asking questions. "Wha... huh...?"

Keroko pushed some of them out of the way and looked down at her. "Nanoha... Nanoha, look at me." She frowned when it took the girl a few moments to focus on the voice. "She hit her head really hard... Nanoha, do you know who I am?"

"You're coach..." She muttered, almost drunken.

"And her?" Keroko pointed at her team mate's girlfriend.

"Fate-chan..." She blinked a few times.

Keroko smiled happily. "And you?"

Nanoha looked at the people seriously. "I am batman."

"Go sit down."

Nanoha shook her head and grabbed Keroko's shoulder, speaking as if she was trying to disguise her voice. "You don't understand, I'm batman!"

"No, I do, I do." Keroko patted her.

Five minutes later, Nanoha was sitting on the bench on the side-lines with a towel over her head and eating a candy bar. After a few moments she looked over at Fate with a serious expression. "Hello good citizen, My name is Batman. You could be my side-kick. Would you like that? Would you like to ride with..." She leaned closer and spoke in a raspy voice. "Batman?" Fate sighed and put her face into her hand while Nanoha stood and put her hands onto her hips. "To the Bat Cave!"

Nanoha threw the ball up into the air and hit it across the tennis court before running to the spot she thought it would be returned to. Not disappointed, she knocked it back and hoped a few times in place before seeing the person run forward. 'Oh he wants to have a close match up huh? Okay, I can do that!'

Instead of lobbing the ball, Nanoha quickly shot it back, making it bounce up quickly. The girl she was fighting backhanded the yellow fuzzy ball once more, hitting Nanoha's side of the court and forcing the girl to act quickly,spiking the ball down and making it flying high in the air. Her opponent eyes it darkly, growling as the onlookers laughed at her attempt to try and hit it. Pissed, she swung hard as it bounced back up, ignoring that it was Nanoha's point, and gave a sick smile as the ball hit the retreating girl's head and making her fall face first onto the court.

Dazed, Nanoha rolled over and looked up at the mass of people gathering over her and asking questions. "Wha... huh...?"

Keroko pushed some of them out of the way and looked down at her. "Nanoha... Nanoha, look at me." She frowned when it took the girl a few moments to focus on the voice. "She hit her head really hard... Nanoha, do you know who I am?"

"You're coach..." She muttered, almost drunken.

"And her?" Keroko pointed at her team mate's girlfriend.

"Fate-chan..." She blinked a few times.

Keroko smiled happily. "And you?"
