Not if it went to the jury. I can guarantee you that upon viewing any doujin, 99% of Iowans would've taken less than a minute in the deliberation room to come up with a guilty verdict. And in this case, he was faced with an "obscenity" charge. Freaking zealoted lawyers tried to used the PROTECT act to try to charge him with child porn but that was thrown out. However part of the "obscenity" charge also involved sexual depictions of characters that appeared to be under the age of 18 -- practically all of hentai and most of anime really. Doesn't have to be lolicon per se -- problem is that you'd be labeled as a pedo in most of the US (and Australia, and New Zealand, and somewhat UK), just by viewing the Bleach image thread in the Bleach forums here!!

By overturned, I was referring to the appeals courts. A guilty plea means he doesn't have grounds for appeal, unless maybe he can show the plea was coerced.

Last I checked, it seems that the former South Korean president Roh Moo-hyun had passed away after a walk into the mountains and that a suicide note has been found implying that it was no accident but merely a suicide. Unfortunately, since the news only came out 25 minutes ago, there is no links to it.

Personally, I never really liked the former South Korean president over political issues, of course but now that he is dead, I guess it feels like how Hanamura Yousuke had felt towards the death of King Moron in P4. Unlike King Moron, the ex-Korean president is merely another corrupted politician which makes the differences. Of course, for that matter.. This might not even be a suicide yet it seems that way. Perhaps, his bribery case links to other influential and wealthy figures in the shadows who made him picked between suicide and something unpleasant. This is quite typical in the world of politics, not much of a surprise even if this sort of possibility gets revealed in the months to come. As long as the current South Korean leader maintains regional stability, its all fine.

Sorry but can't agree with you on that one, Shadow Minato. He has his flaws, but comparatively he was one of the better political leaders South Korea had to offer. He was born into a poor family, and wasn't able to enter college, yet still went on to become an accomplished judge and human rights lawyer. He's also powerful speaker; his followers rather aggressive*. Focused a lot on a transparent government (the paper trail he left behind is many times more then all the previous governments combined). A very humble man, although he did possess some prejudice against upper-class folk. The level of corruption he was accused of is laughable compared to any of his predecessors (well, maybe sans Kim Dae-jung).

His shortcomings were IMHO mostly due to the incompetency of his own political party, which was far too interested in in-fighting. And also, due somewhat due to his idealism.

Roh Moo-hyun, may you rest in peace. It ain't makkeol-li, but the best I have.


If there's one quote that stands out the most of ROH Moo-hyun, is this:

대통령 욕하는 것은 민주사회에서 주권을 가진 시민의 당연한 권리입니다.
Criticizing the President is a given right for any citizen in a democratic society.

The man said that during his term of president. Quite surprising for a leader in a rigidly hierarchical society like Korea. Too bad Korea has returned back to the "no criticizing the Dear Leader" type.

Assassinated: Park Chung hee. His wife was murdered by a NK agent. So, yeah.

Kim Young-san and Kim Dae Jung seemd to be going on well. Young-san had seen his sons thrown in jail for corruption, while Dae Jung's legacy is slightly sullied by (again) corruption allegations. Not all is lost.

Did the same thing happened to the poor ex-Korean president Roh Moo-hyun when he decided to have a walk in the mountains as a means of relieving stress when a passerby came along and pushed him off the cliff, in which the ex-president fell to his death. Thus, it appears as a suicide or an accident. Its possible..
