Karma itself is pretty much a spoiler to the whole game (full version of the song, anyways), but most people doesn't realize it 'till after they finish playing the game. (Or in this case, finish watching the anime.) Sadly, most of the translations of the song on the net are done by people who never played the game before, so a lot of the messages within the lyrics are lost in translation.

According to episode 2's preview, there's a high chance you'll hear it next episode.

First episode was very enjoyable. The characters so far are great fun (looking forward to seeing the rest in up-coming episodes) and the story was set up nicely. As expected the production quality is very high, with very smooth animation --- let's hope that can keep up.

Can't wait for more.

Indeed. Even though the same thing happens in the game, I find it funny how much the OP actually reveals in the anime.

Even though it doesn't spell anything out plainly, just the images of a short-haired Luke and whatnot is sure to cause newcomers to guess what the future holds. I guess it's more of a tease of what's to come.

Well, looking up on Luke's voice actor and seeing that he voices another character in the series that looks like him had questions in my head before i even watched the first episode.

Something Anise says instead or the original phrase when she does her hi-ougi if both Luke and Jade are not in the party. I'll see if I can find a video of that.

Was the phrase Japan-only?

I think it was "I'll kill you you bastards" in the EN version?

Heh. That reminds me of the semi-hidden proximity dialog triggers from Star Fox 64.

lolwut. i can watch 720p HD flawlessly on my secondary server box and it has pretty low specs.

Ubuntu 8.10
Pentium III 733MHz Coppermine
384 MB RAM

You just need a better media player. May I suggest SMPlayer?

Since Shinsen-subs released theirs, anyone want to comment whether they got the names right, etc?

@farplaner: I can't believe it! If I hadn't fallen asleep before your message I would've realised my torrent was linking to the wrong file

I'm very sorry to the people who downloaded the initial Gaku Takes of the Abyss 02 torrent.

I've since corrected it here:

http://www.nyaatorrents.org/?page=torrentinfo&tid=35213

Unfortunately it was already heading towards the 3am zone here when the file was being uploaded to take advantage of my offpeak data allowance.

To make up for it, I'll go all out for the torrent now, and sarcrifice what I had planned to save for the month

You still don't get it do you?

LEARN. HOW. TO. DISTRO!

Making people with 100Mbit college connections wait 8+ hours for a fansub is a horrible experience.

Do you guys think we'll get a separate board? It's so hard to keep up with all the different conversations here! XD

BTW. Shinsen has done a rather stellar job with their fansub and I've never really been a fan of them or their leader, Vincent.

  • Proper names and terminology (as per English localization of the game)
  • Eye-friendly fonts
  • Use of a MPEG transport stream for the RAW
  • Simple softsubbed karaoke
  • Presumably accurate translation as opposed to some of the blatant occasional guesswork I've noticed in other versions.
  • Well-coordinated distro (XDCC bots and heavily seeded torrent)
In short, Shinsen has put out a very polished release and have effectively set the bar for Abyssal Chronicles.

While AC may potentially provide the most anal-retentive fansub if and when they release, Shinsen's monopolistic practices and scale of their operation may effectively crowd out the promising Tales-fan group.

Well, I'm downloading Shinsen's now. Also watched Weiss and Osu. I don't know which I'll keep in the end (unless a group takes way too long). But anyway, it seems like a decent series, the main char is not as much of a shounen retard as I was expecting, so it's ok, I'll pick that, too. ^^
