Hmmm I'd say this was the weaker of the two episodes involving Kuon's family. No real interesting insights, but rather Aruruu and Kamyu acting like children the whole time. In some ways its a bit more sad than impressive that they haven't matured in the slightest. Aside from Aruruu looking older they are basically the exact same if not more immature than in the original series.
Rather than any serious reason...frankly I think these two are the reason Kuon both left home and has no interest in getting back any time soon. No wonder the girl wanted to flee the second she heard they were coming. Although to be fair this might still be stronger than next week's episode . Anju isn't that interesting a character to begin with and now having a silly crush on Oshutoru doesn't feel like it will make her that much more likable. Guess we're still in for a long wait for the plot to have any serious turn to it. Might take until the mid-series point before anything really big happens.

And yet I keep coming back every week, despite no childhood friend character. AND I DUNNO WHY!? (IMO it's by far and away the best harem show of the cour as well) I'm just glad Aruruu wasn't inflicted with the 'ageless loli' virus that so happens to plague a lot of loli characters. And Aruruu/Kamyu followed Haku into the inn because he smelled like Kuon? Horseradish! Judging by the end scene, the two are aware that Touka/Karura runs the inn, and Aruruu/Kamyu probably just didn't want to rat out that Touka/Karura are sending updates to home. XD Well, good thing she isn't wielding a cleaver, kana kana?

Hrm...well, I was fine with the episode in general, although the last few moments were the most interesting. Aruruu and Kamyu were the ambassadors from Tuskuru, eh? (Although they took advantage of the fact that Karula and Touka had no doubt informed them that Kuon was staying at her Inn when they had free time - presumably they were waiting for their audience with Anju.)
From last ep's preview I was expecting Kamyu to show up, but not Aruruu...that was a surprise. And Aruruu's uncanny intuition showed up at the beginning of the ep as well in her picking out Haku from the crowd. It seems Karula amd Touka had not informed them about Haku's presence or his name. The fact that ep 8 ended the way it did and nothing about it was mentioned or alluded to this ep in the least makes me curious...I wonder if it will be brought up next ep in the midst of Anju being silly and impulsive? Also, we saw in this ep that Kuon may be a little more entwined in her heart with Haku than she (or Haku, for that matter) might realize...particularly in her scolding Haku that he should have realized she was in a pinch and helped out. Other than that, we learned that apparently Kuon had been "allowed" to leave on her travels on the condition of returning at a certain time...perhaps part of the reason she wanted to travel was to escape the smothering affections of some of the others (one wonders if she was a favorite of Aruruu and Kamyu in particular or if all the orphans were treated as such), but there was also curiosity as well, no doubt - she has an adventurous streak to her and is certainly more than capable. It came as no surprise that she decided not to return at the agreed time. ^^

I think Kamyu is in her 30s by now. Aruru is in her 20s.
I guess yaoi is too modern to have spread to a backwater little country like Tusukuru. Rurutie did mention that the works are rather difficult to find outside the capital. There are probably also practical issues with trying to publish the books there, as books made of many pages of paper are not particularly suited to being published on bambo scrolls. |

It was a fun episode, but I wish they add more to the appearance of Aruru and Kamyu than just chasing Kuon around and have a few comments after that, such as what kind of nation is Tuskuru and what are the social status of those two to give more hints about Kuon's identity to those who haven't seen the first series.
Nice to see more display of relationship between Haku and Kuon. The wife want the husband to notice her troubles but the husband just don't get it, but he does know where does she hang about. This is realistically familiar and fun to see. It's a pity a few interesting hints in the game was left out here, but for now I'll let it pass. I wonder what does it meant by Ukon saying that they will gather at the sewers, new mission? Next episode seems to be anime original about love, as expected. |

It was a cute episode, and I definitely love seeing Aruru again. However, she did not seem to mature at all besides her physique, and for that, I'm a little disappointed. I'm guessing there is her maternal side and then there is her serious side. I would have liked to see her serious side.
As for the episode itself, the scene at the end where Tuskuru wants friendly relations is nice. However, all of the past few episodes loose threads were not touched upon again. The visit with the old human (possibly emperor?) and the whole incident with Dekoponpo are just left as if they don't exist. I keep begging for the story to develop, and we they do slightly, they get left off completely afterwards. It is a little disheartening.

Still no story development...
I guess at least the story hints that the place they are in right now plans to invade Tuskuru. Hurry up and do so! Pretty please? I'll watch Hidamari if I wanted to stare at a bath scene every week...

Hahaha the plot in this show is really at a standstill huh?
That said was nice to Aruru and Kamyu for the old bit of nostalgia, but it's hard to see where their appearance is going to lead. The stuff involving Kuon was fairly fun, but I felt they could have shorten since it really just one overly stretched out gag. Hopefully next week we get a bit more traction going storywise. The setup has been long enough honestly. |
