Also, here is a proper link. No point in giving that site traffic. |

The household is taking up mahjong as an addition to our madhouse of other games we play... I'm leaning towards learning the Chinese rule set first as the American rule set just looks annoying (especially with its "pokemon of the year" new hands).
Sound like a good plan? And I browsed around a bit in the thread and didn't see anything conclusive --- have we established whether they're playing Chinese or Japanese rules in the series?

i do know the game a bit. i used to play abit but im just an amatuer at the game i do know a few limited basic hands. the only special hand i know is the 1,9 of the suit, the 3 honors and winds. lol i remember back in college when i was playing majong for fun with friends i actually won one turn with that combo. the funniest thing was that i beat another player that had the same hand had i not gotten the winning tile 1 move b4 him. i really like the game itself but i dont play it very much since i finished college several years back.

I read somewhere that Saki was Yuri + Yugioh + a little bit of Mahjong. I don't think I can deny this comment.
I'm a bit split on this one. The seiyu factor is a big win, actually the main reason I'm keeping this on my watch list. Crunchyroll's subs are surprisingly well done, tool. But the anime episodes themselves seem rather anti-climatic. There's a lot of flashes of light and excited voices throughout the episode, but when we're at actual "tension scenes" such as Nodoka's confrontation they seem rather lacking. I don't think it's because of bad acting or anything, but I just can't seem to "click" with the characters here.

^its that or its something that the viewers who are familiar with mahjong can connect to the tension scenes. the yuri doesnt really take away from the anime but im in for the mahjong part of the series. ive seen akagi and that indeed was interesting putting aside the ridiculously matches that he had to face. its a good thing that this probably wont be the case with saki.

A Baiman riichi chi'itsu ipeiko. non dealer 16000 points Wasted on North's yakuhai. 1000 points. AAAAAAAAAAAAA. BTW I found the server that appears in the screenshot yesterday. Pretty neat site for those interested.

And this series is made by Gonzo. 99% of series produced by Gonzo are licensed in the US and this will likely be no exception (especially with the FUNi x Gonzo deal). <rant>I keep seeing people posting in other places "I'm able to see shows like Saki that would never have been brought over." This show was 99% certain to have come over regardless of if it ended up on CR or not.</rant>
