Mukojima Takuro is a lonely teenager who spends his time fishing at the pier and, to his incredible surprise, fishes up Muromi, a mermaid. Muromi first off doesn’t realize she's a mermaid until she meets Takuro. Not only that, she is incredibly dense and crazy and has a drinking problem to top it off. Now every time Takuro goes fishing, Muromi appears and makes life interesting for him.

Synopsis reads interesting! The director has mostly been involved in Key Animating a few series and OVA that I'm familiar with and the end product for those series he was involved in animation wise were pretty decent. I'm not exactly sure what a Unit Director does, but I did enjoy Princess Resurrection OVA because of its superior overall animation effort and better storytelling compared to the TV Series. So his involvement to this series as a director should be a good thing where he will have more control at how this story will be animated. Will be looking forward to this.

A comedic mermaid-based series was one of the things that kept me hooked on anime when I got here, so I'm looking forward to this one. Also, we have our cast:

Muromi - Yukari Tamura
Takurou Mukoujima - Takahiro Mizushima
Riuvia - Mai Nakahara
Sumida - Sumire Uesaka
Hii-chan - Ai Nonaka
Fuji - Hitomi Harada
Yeti - Chiwa Saito
Harpy - Kanako Sakai

I am kind of surprised Tamura Yukari is doing Muromi since Muromi looked like the type of character Nabatame Hitomi would voice and ironic Mizushima Takahiro was in an another mermaid involved anime.

Sumire Uesaka will be performing the OP. She's sung before, but this is her first single.

Well, the anime is first and foremost a comedy, so the derp factor is kind of appropriate.

EDIT: The whole website has been revamped and updated.

Will this be the only anime where the mermaids actually stay mermaids the whole time and are not just apart of a side story? Comedy or not that will rule. The use of mermaids in anime has so far, to me at least, been very disappointing.

Let's see...
There are some 70's anime productions about mermaids (Toei Little Mermaid ring a bell?), but I'm focusing on the more current anime.

One Piece (Side Story)
Fairy Tail (Side Story)
Various others that use mermaids as a story motif for an episode or two.

There are some 70's anime productions about mermaids (Toei Little Mermaid ring a bell?), but I'm focusing on the more current anime.

Mermaid Forest/ Mermaid Scar (I can't remember if this was based on a legend or not, but really, wut?)
Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch (Most of the time they were regular girls/ magical idols, sooo, yeahhh. Cute, but that's it.)
Umi Monogatari (There were no mermaids perse, but girls that live and breathe under the sea sound preety close to it. Alas, they had legs and spent the rest of their time on the surface.)
Gake no Ue no Ponyo (Ponyo really had no clear classification, which is really what made it work. You could look as Ponyo as a baby mermaid if you wanted to or not. It really doesn't matter.)
Seto no Hanayome (The mermaid theme only popped up occasionally. The rest of the time it was a school comedy.)

D'awww ... what's wrong with large eyes? ^^

Such things were pretty normal for a time and a season and still are in some anime genres!

[cough cough]

Ok, I admit - I like the "big eyes" style of animation....

That's the kind of thing I like to hear. Series that achieve that kind of zaniness only come around every once in a while.

I dunno, it's not necessarily the size of the eyes alone that bothers me. Perhaps it's a combination of the eyes in relation to size and shape of their faces/heads? (Note: I'm only talking about this show in particular, not others.) I guess it's just me. The designs come off as too awkward for my tastes. *shrugs*

But I'm one of those people who can ignore personal gripes with aesthetics as long as the content's good. I watched the PV and I agree with Warm Mist, the animation looks quite decent.
