i dunno if anyone has notticed this person, but when i was watchin the anime all in one sitting i noticed him in the background.
He is this short old man with a hammer who fixes stuff, he was in the anime three times so far in the kf releases. he firsted appeared in Loguetown when he was talking to sanji after sanji met the woman cook who challenged him, he later appeared on drum island fixing a door dr. kurehna broke where she healed the little boy, and he also appeared i thin in alabasta arc......

as for the manga, i think he is the mestrious man who repaired the ship in the skypiea arc......from the distance and shadow it looked like it would be him....

any thoughts?

wow! that's pretty good insight... i think i do remember someone in the background... it'd be pretty cool if it turns out to be him, but wouldn't that mean he's following them though... maybe it's someone luffy already knows, but then again, maybe he's just a background character, and it was a different person each time. I'm gonna watch those eps again when I get home

my theory is...

1) he has many twins, lol

2) he is the creator of the going merry and has followed them through out, since he has been seen before and after they entered grandline, and coinicidently showed up at three locations the luffy crew has shown up at...

3) or he is somehow watching over the luffy crew via dragon, since they both first appeared in lougetown( i dont recall seein this character before then)

That waiter guy created Going Merry if I recall.

I thought the creator of the Going Merry was that guy back in Usopps town..the one that looked like he had horns on his head...Erm, maybe I misunderstood, sorry haha..

Yeah, this mysterious guys could've MADE the Going Merry (what I think it's quite impossible). The design and structure of the ship was made by Merry, the guy who looks like Mohji, that sheep-fur-headed subordinate.
