and i do believe its just the art style of issue. I mean, if you want to be really picky. Anyone japanese should look quite different than a midchildan by virtue of the fact their gene pools did not cross each other much.

It was more the complete personality switch from 'happy girl who doesn't quite know what's she's gonna do yet' to 'girl crying her eyes out because she's lost in life' that didn't sit well with people.

I'll admit I don't know much about Dora the Explorer to know if that image was referencing it. But I'm pretty sure it's referencing Yoshi's Island, where you played as Yoshi carrying a baby Mario on his back.
