The only reason I find it tough to give very many "10" ratings is that each episode almost NEEDS to be twice as long.

I find that I'd be incredibly bored with this series if it was twice as long...

Sure, it would probably feel better executed, but this way they're able to create a complete story in one season.

As always I disagree with you.

Good anime can be executed without being boresome even if it is longer. being longer it gives more depth to the character (of course if the time is used on characters and not on fanservice, like in ZnT or other similar 'depth' animes).

If the length determines if you are bored or not then just go watch short clips (like one or two minute length) as I think those would be thrilling experience for you.

Of course going too long is a problem but not with the characters that Toradora has. If this would be a 48 or 36 episode season it may have been much better than now as simply then the depth of characters could be displayed properly as their development instead of rushing things.

Can't say that Toradora does bad thing all together given the ridiculous disproportion in episodes and amount of volumes it should cover, but it certainly could be better with more length.

For me the best example of long but still great anime that does not rush things and still maintain to be interesting/amusing is spice and wolf.

Sometimes it may look like things are stretching but the two great main leads and their verbal dancing with each other make it very great experience to follow.

I agree, I don't think I'd be bored at all if they slowed the pace down to something like 3-4 episodes per volume... at all.

Spice and Wolf bored me to death. Nothing HAPPENED.

I realize it's a good story and all, but I just couldn't watch it... nothing really happened at all...

It's not the sort of story that makes a good anime.

To each his own, I guess.

I know I wouldn't want to watch 4-5 episodes of Kitamura being an emo twat, but that's just me.

I think the show is doing a great job. I love the books too, but they're books and I can read them at my own pace...

Well that story arc... the problem was mainly that they kept nearly all of the Kitamura emo bull and made cuts elsewhere.

Ah ... I adored Spice & Wolf ... (shrug) pacing tastes vary

Well... I agree with that particular example.... but it is pretty clear that some entertaining character development is being skimmed a bit -- I'm thinking Clannad pacing would be a nice way to implement.

yeah, I'm somehow satisfied yet not. Don't ask me to explain it - pretty happy with the series and if they end it well, it goes into my top handful of romances anyway.

The problem is that they already animated most of everything that there was about Kitamura emo, so it was impossible to get more material to it while on the other hand there was plenty of other material skipped that could have made more interesting.

I agree with the statement that ToraDora! should be better with a slower pace.

Why JCStaff/GENCO doesn't made 'Seasons', like ZnT or SnS? The problem I see in doing this is the more difficult to establish an end of the occasional 1st one. But it's THAT problem?

If they had the budget for 50-episode series without a one-season break, I'm sure they'd do it. But they don't.

I think that [safe] profit matters more than budget. Look Gundam 00: 2 seasons of 25 episodes each - if Season 1 fails, the project would be easily 'shortened'.

That's why the average season nowadays is 12-13 episode, instead of 24-26.

One last note:
I thought it was interesting to watch Kitamura consciously switch from the formal neutral "watashi" to the more masculine assertive "ore" when confessing to Sumire. To some extent he was trying to sound as rough as she does .

What an embarrassing episode. Kitamura always makes me cringe, but this time he really outdid himself. I had to mute the last half of the episode and kinda squint at the screen so I could see it without seeing it, you know? And a catfight? Seriously? Over Kitamura? Oh, brother.

Anyway, the next episode promises to be more Minoriningful. Download faster! Faster!

Funny. This was one of the best episodes, for me...

I guess I just don't like to see people embarrass themselves, even in fiction. That, and Sumire is a cow.

Oh, no, she's not. She's probably the most respectable character in the whole series, I'd wager.

You know looking through my old posts, it becomes clear I started enjoying this show a lot more once I ran out of translated novel material.
