Um...what does it actually do? Is it something like the typing tutors you could buy for your PC or something?

Its a typing game.

Well, they give you a word or a set of phrases, and within the time limit, you must finish typing it in order to ... advance to the next stage. Yeah.

And in between they throw in a few cinematics as a reward. A very cheap marketing ploy, if you ask me.

This is what Kira looked like in between Seed and Destiny he had to work off the pounds before he made his appearence in Destiny. What else was there to do on that island for two years Lacus really spoiled him when it came to food.
