I envy you Japanese people... Now I'm waiting for the 1st volume of the English release to be out...

Everytime I'm back to watching anime, reading manga and playing console game, I wish I know Japanese... like there's a Shakugan no Shana PS2 game and I want to give it a try but I won't be able to understand a thing T.T

I'm going to learn Japanese but... I've had past experience of failing to learn another language before. That's pretty much the reason why I didn't try to.

When I was young and my parents sent me to Chinese classes. I learned the language for 3 years without able to speak the language, and it ended up I barely know any words...

Spoiler for Subject:

And while I understand that you're excited about the latest development, please post it in the Shakugan no SHANA novel and manga thread instead of here. This thread is for the anime. You might also want to edit your previous 3 posts with spoiler tags.

Anyone care to improve the wikipedia articles on the Shankugan no Shana Manga, and especially the Light Novels? Hopefully someone on this thread read them! These articles have very little sumarry of where the literature diverges from the anime and could use alot more information:

I have a question (after reading through this thread to make sure it wasn't answered and checking out the wiki briefly).

Is the manga just a manga version of the novels or is it a separate side-story? I see no purpose in buying the manga if it's just the light novel in manga form, but if it's actually got a different story (similar to what I've heard the Scrapped Princess novel has) then I'd like to pick it up.

I bought two volumes of the manga. Didn't read the novels but the manga storyline follows the anime, so I would assume it's the same story as the novel as well.

The novel seems to be following the anime, so my guess is they're the same. Safely skipping then.

From my understanding, SnS' novel was the base for everything else.

Same way Slayers and Haruhi were Novel Expats in regards to anime.

Correction, I realize now that what I said was ambiguous. I realize that the novels were the source - I'm going to read the novels no matter what (well, unless it turns out I don't like them or something). I only meant that I was going to skip the manga since it seems to be identical to the novel. I'm really only interested in the manga if, like I said, it's different than the novel. If I wanted to see the novel with (more) pictures, I would watch the anime.

I've now finished the first novel, and I actually enjoyed it a fair amount.
Spoiler for No real novel spoilers, but better safe than sorry:

A new/latecomer comes into the SnS fandom with images and a question!

Spoiler for Novel Volume 14 Images:

EDIT: Missing pages added. XD;

Which brings me to ask the question. For those who've read the v14 already--or for those that know somehow....

Spoiler for question~ (with a spoiler(?). >_>) don't click if you don't like them. D::

. . . . .

Boy I actually bought light volume 14. But even with my handy, or not so handy pocketJapanese dictionary....and my impossible-to-look-up-a-character kanji dictionary, that small font, small leaf-sized100-200 page novel is unreadable. Only in Japanese can you be illiterate while still having a variety of dictionaries at your disposal! (...well maybe also Chinese... )

Oh here's a hint though: On the first page theres alot of talk about blowing a white hankerchief. Whatever that means....
