What's your problem with yuri undertones?

Why did I expect something like Akagi but got a wet t shirt contest?

Oh well, what I even don't understand is that it's licensed, yet nobody cares about Akagi? It's better from a mahjong point of view...

I wouldn't mind getting enlightened, because I can't see it's forced .

Seems like you just come here posting without reading anything beforehand. People mentioned about Akagi countless times already.
And not like because it's also talking about Mahjong means it has to be Akagi. They're different in so many parts that I don't know where to start.

In the end, though, Akagi is better.

Now this is a really objective statement, isn't it?

But you know it's true. I couldn't take the first ep seriously of Saki, yet Akagi just pulled me in right away. It was all about mind crushing mahjong, Saki just seems like a moe-fest with GONZO even ruining a maybe enjoyable manga with their fanservice overtone.

Can't you enjoy different series for different reasons? The aim of Saki is obviously not to provide an elementary education in mahjong, the mahjong is merely a premise for character interaction (much like Shion no Ou).
Akagi may be better in its focus on mahjong, but that doesn't make it qualitatively better.
I'm liking Saki's characters so far, even though if you look back a couple of pages I was talking about how cookie-cutter some of them seem to me.

Now if I say I can't take Akagi, and Saki just pulled me in right away, you'll accuse me for having worst taste or don't know what's the good anime, am I right?
Of course, I should know "it's true", because you're absolutely right .

And ruining the manga? Did you even read it?

I won't say it, but it's your opinion. You on the other hand act as fast as you can, you could have ignored me and we wouldn't been having this silly discussion. |:

Maybe it's just me, but that's kinda why I enjoyed it. Heck, that's why the PV attracted me in the first place. Yu-Gi-Oh! style Mahjong? Sounds ridiculous. I'm in!

people seem to have forgotten the main point of akagi
a small clue: its not about mahjong

akagi could have just as well been about poker, blackjack, rock-paper-scissors, baseball and basically any other thing you could compete with and not change one bit.

akagi was a gambling anime, mahjong was nothing more then a tool. a VERY VERY INSIGNIFICANT TOOL.

complaining about akagi's mahjong being "better" is nothing more then being biased.

The characters are cute, the voices are great, the girls are hot, the story is okey, but they take mahjong a bit too seriously.

It's more that Akagi was about atmosphere and the flow of the game. It wasn't about winning or losing, it's the journey. Saki likes to jump directly to the winning and losing so far from what I've read. (Or rather, the whole magical power usage to win.)

Also, tangentially related, here is a video of some absolutely absurd mahjong play. (It appears to be a flaw in the randomizer program or manipulated score data at times.)

Just want to say that there will be a Mahjong arcade game based on the Saki anime; I wonder how good the AI of this arcade game would be.

Quote:
GONZO is collaborating with SEGA, and there will be a "Saki Single Mode" featured on "MJ4 Ver.C", a new version of arcade Mahjong game "SEGA Network match-up Mahjong MJ4". In the mode you can play with "Saki" characters instead of matching-up with opponents online. The characters are dubbed by voice actresses of the anime.

As for the yuri part, well, the yuri aspect in the manga is not as "strong" as in the anime (I haven't read all of the manga); the rain scene where Saki catch Nodoka when Nodoka fell because she ran too fast is added into the anime; Nodoka did not ran and fell in the manga, therefore Saki couldn't catch her and make it looks like they are hugging each other. As for the first episode, I like it very much. I think the next future episodes will be even more awesome, because interesting characters will be introduced and (hoping that) Saki's background will be revealed.
