2 other groups, fallingsnow and IDpro as well, though they seem to be new.

Ah, now I know why you don't see the family relationship theme in Clannad until many plays later.

If you look at each story, or even character in AIR, the common link is indeed a mother/child (not necesarily a blood-related) relationship, and dare I say much more apparent that the "hope" theme.

Spoiler for spoiler for AIR:

Kano's: her wish to see her mother via "magic", Hijiri's dual sister/mother role. As well as the feather which Kano found is also the memories of the love of the mother who wanted to save her child.
Minagi: her love for her mother made her "played" the role of Michiru. Her mother's love for Michiru causing her mental condition.
Mizusu/Haruko: their mother/daughter relationship and what it means to be that, even though they're not true mother/daughter.
Kanna: her journay to search for her mother is the entire point of the Summer Arc.

Even Yukito has a very special relationship with his mother, who passed on a seemingly impossible task to him, yet he persued it. It is because as he himself said, he loved it when he gets praised and greeted with the warm smile of his mother and wanted to satisfy her wish.

The mother/child theme in AIR is very very strong and is a common theme in all the stories and the characters.

yes, and thats why comparing key's game with standard harem, or even calling it harem is blasphemy, people just get the wrong idea when seeing anime with one main lead male, and many female lead character.. gee

Not to sound elitist, but when I see Air, Kanon and Clannad (granted Air and Kanon did have h-scenes) automatically classified as eroge/harem category, be it games or anime, it does kinda make me want to say, "Sorry, these games/anime aren't really like most others..."

Key's products have felt like a literal term of the word visual novel. Sure there are decisions to make, but you often don't have a MASSIVE amount of control. You get a few options here and there and that's about it.

The rest of it is one big picture book really, a really detailed and well told picture book. Other than MAYBE Leaf's games, I really can't think of too many companies up on par with Key in terms of content. Sure other visual novels have stories going on, but how often does the story actually affect how things will be?

I can't think of any other way to put it other than how I said it earlier. Eroge from other companies is under that classification.

But Key is different. They're novels with life in them, as I said a really long picture book... But you're a character within the novel.

It's like those old R.L. Stine "Choose your Own Scare" books without all the options...

To back up on my further statement, anyone who's sat through an entire KyoAni Key game adaptation knows it hardly plays out as some cheesy romantic comedy kind of thing that's of piss poor qualirty (*coughSISTERPRINCESScough*) and that it's more like a drama more than anything else. Sure there's a little comedy here and there, but that's not the heart of it... Really, it's about what's going on with these specific characters. The male lead has NO intention of hitting on all the other girls (Seriously, tell/show me once where Yukito/Yuiichi hit on Misuzu, Minagi or Kano/Ayu, Nayuki, Matoko, Mai, Shiori in a way implying they had the hots for them... The closest thing there would really be to compare the two is maybe hugging or something.) If anything, Clannad TV is going to be the first of Key's adaptations to show a relationship of being more than just friends...

Either way, I gotta say it's hard at times to not jump on the "Key is teh 1337" bandwagon without seeming elitist but really, could there be such a thing as a "Key Jock" really? Like comparing Gaming jocks to hardcore gamers, I just don't think there's such a category for key games. You either know almost everything there is to them... Or you know very little to nothing.

Oh well, enough rambling for now XD

I wonder if at some point I should've just cut my statement much shorter and just said, I agree. XD

One more day til Clannad anime comes out (along with Shounen Onmyouji musical, of course!! )! I wanna see it! I uploaded the ending and opening songs on YouTube! I can't wait to hear Karin (Kamichama Karin) as Nagisa-chan! or Rinna (Panyo Panyo Digi Charat) as Yukine!

No. Though playing the game allows you to see more of the story, unseen in the anime. There is no CLANNAD movie(I mean it the way as 'there is no Tsukihime anime')
