In SRWW, there was Nadesico and Prince of Darkness.
If anyone remembered, there's this Jupitorian who got on board Nadesico and had a younger sister. He would later die from a gunshot and his sister taken care by Minato Haruka. That guy's name is Shiratori Tsukumo, literally means "White Bird 99(Ninty-Nine)". So in SRWW, Shiratori Tsukumo didn't die and you can even choose to unlock him in either a Majin or Tetsujin, Jupitorian "Gekiganger" mecha. If you unlock him in Tetsujin, he will say "Go!! Tetsujin 99!!!" when he arrives to help you. If you unlock him in Majin, he will say, "MAJIN GOOO!!!". Not sure how many of you will get both jokes.

Of course, even in the SRW fandom, there are fans who don't get the old school.
Having grown up watching old school mecha dubs, I've seen real old school where people die and heroes cry. But they had the traditional Hotbloodedness, not the 'GAR' that the western world calls nowadays. In Japanese there's only Nekketsu(Hotbloodedness), there's no such thing as GAR. Majinga, its in the name, the struggle between being a demon or a god, saviour or destroyer, it has always been in Mazinger.

Hmm, the old anime version didn't have it, nor did Gosaku Ota's manga adaptation. As far as Mazinger Z goes, for now the original (half) of the manga is the only one that shows that - if we exclude the aborted try done in 1987 which never saw the light of the day. It was much more present in Mazin Saga though.

I watched lots of evening and Saturday/Sunday 'cartoons' here in Singapore. Only when I was older that I found out I watched mecha anime lol
I woke up early every Sunday morning for Chinese dubbed Grendizer, Saturday afternoons was Raijin-Oh. English dubbed Goshogun, Voltron, for some time I watched Malaysian dubbed Godmars and I'm Chinese lol I forgot what other mecha dubs I watched, but there was quite a number before I realised I watched anime and not cartoons.

Anyhow is there any news on Boss appearing? Because he still didn't appear on the seiyuu list and the show is going to start in few days. I mean it can't be Mazinger without Boss, right?
