Quite possibly the most awesome sounding post apocalyptic setting I've heard of.
the key is Solyent Green.

-The only governments left are two theocracies and myself, a communist state. I wanted to stay a democracy, but the Senate would always over-rule me when I wanted to declare war before the Vikings did. This would delay my attack and render my turn and often my plans useless. And of course the Vikings would then break the cease fire like clockwork the very next turn. Something I also miss in later civ games is a little internal politics. Anyway, I was forced to do away with democracy roughly a thousand years ago because it was endangering my empire. But of course the people hate me now and every few years since then, there are massive guerrilla (late game barbarians) uprisings in the heart of my empire that I have to deal with which saps resources from the war effort.

The more you think you can monopolise your products alongside your services, the more likely someone out there is ready to outwit you in 24 hours.

Okla. horse ranch in cartel case raised suspicions
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories...06-13-20-17-34
Quote:
LEXINGTON, Okla. (AP) -- If associates of a reputed Mexican drug cartel leader had wanted to lay low while laundering money at an American horse ranch, they seemed to do everything wrong.

They swept their fields at night with a giant spotlight, threw around lots of cash, bought parcels of land in a deep recession and made expensive improvements to their farm in an industry not known for generating large profits.

"It would take a multi-millionaire just to support an operation like that," neighbor Clifford Massengale said.

I don't know whether this is classified as odd news or not, but I wonder if the robber has a real issue with his John Barleycorn.

I *LIKE* this idea....

An even better idea is to go from house to house and kneecap people who don't keep their software up to date (and are therefore highly likely to have been botjacked, had their ID thefted, and their tubes are full of goblins)

Black Death Discovered In Oregon: Man Contracts Bubonic Plague From Cat. The unidentified man, who is currently in his 50s, had tried to pry a dead mouse from a stray cat's mouth on June 2 when the cat attacked him.

Can we give hime his Darwin award now or do we have to wait until he dies? Just in case anyone still wonders what is the bubonic plague.

I think you have to die to get a Darwin award.

Manga comes under fire in Sweden, as reported by the BBC. A mention of manga on almighty BBC, albeit in a less than positive light; I don't know whether to be glad or disappointed.

Also an interesting legal angle (and philosophical question) in the case; do drawings of children (not legal adults drawn as lolis) in lewd situations count as true child pornography, and for that matter, can manga drawings of "adult situations" count as true pornography?

The prosecution calls in its witnesses from Akihabara...

Dunno if that qualifies for a full Darwin award. Stopping a cat from eating a mouse is a bit silly, but a lot of people prefer to throw the mouse away (for whatever reason). Still Bubonic Plague infested creatures is a little disconcerting. That shit spreads and doesn't let go; from rodent, to flee, to cat, to flee, to dog and so on. It's not really an illness you'd expect to get this day and age, it probably wouldn't take much for it to explode in a pandemic again in the right conditions (ie city slums). Kind of surprised its that treatable tbh, I thought it wasn't anywhere near that containable. A couple of those epidemic level viruses/plagues don't have cures. I guess he gets an Honorary Darwin Merit award, stopping a cat and getting the one in a billion chance of catching the plague.

Don't worry, there's probably much better quandidates for the award.
