Any good horror?
I'm looking for horror manga, but anime and movies are also good suggestions.
So far I've read/seen: Jigoku Shoujo, Junji Ito's manga, Higurashi, Bokurano, Blood, Count Cain. I didn't like Monster or Elfen Lied though. I'd rather read psychological horror rather than gore and blood, but I guess that's fine too. Thank you!

Uzumaki, Ghost Hunt, Godchild (sequel to Cain), Pet Shop of Horror, Nightmare Inspector are all mystery based, though I think Uzumaki is more horror, I have yet to read it but the others I have.

Kiseijuu - great sci-fi horror manga
Hyakki Yakoushou - lots of horror elements while maybe not exactly being a horror manga itself--a very good read Hellsing - the classic vampire gore manga Bokkesan - read like 1 chapter a while back; you might find it of interest Franken Furan - great manga with some very gory/morbid content told in a lighthearted fashion, lol Variante - monster girl manga Skyhigh - supernatural horror dealing with death and revenge Mermaid Saga - tale about immortals who get killed a lot; classic Rumiko |

Hmm, some of the best hooror are a combination of blood and gore mixed with psychological (Like Berserk or the various Higurashi no Naku Koro ni manga/anime or even something more nihilistic like Blame!)...
That being said, here are a list of good horror manga: Highschool of the Dead Goth Kiseijuu Pet Shop of Horrors Hyakki Yakoushou 7 Seeds Shingetsutan Tsukihime Alive edit: damn I am slow typer, I have been beaten to the punch on several of these titles ... |

Maybe Perfect Blue--it's really more of a thriller, but there's alot of pyschological moments in it--more about what is real and what is unreal.
Serial Expertiments Lain comes to mind, its less direct than something like Higurashi, but more about losing touch with reality, with the line between what is real and what is unreal being blurred to the point of no return. The story begins with a girl committing suicide and after the event emails from her start arriving to her classmates... Chaos Head is probably the worst of my suggestions--it's about a "Hikikomori"--a student who tries to withdraw from society and life completely. There's a string of killings and he starts having delusions, as he gets drawn deeper and deeper into the course of events...mix these elements with a harem anime...which makes it unusual. |

I also recommend Kiseiju, it's really an underestimated manga, yet i consider it one of the best i've read.
@jedinat, why you say it's sci-fi? The story is set on our time, the alien nature of the monsters is merely speculated. For what concerns anime if you prefer realistic settings rather than fantasy, then "Perfect Blue" is a great movie. Also, since you are an umineko fan, try "Paranoia Agent". It's a story where reality and urban legends melt together, lot of mistery and many unexplicable events occur.

The manga begins with "Above the earth, someone was thinking..." and then we see little spiky balls fall from the sky. Even if they aren't aliens, science fiction is a very broad category, and the creatures of Kiseijuu would certainly fall under it.
