.... I thought the first episode was a nice hook and fascinating. But if you're asking if the pace, mood, and atmosphere has changed to something *you* might find more compelling then the answer is that it probably hasn't.

I love Irisu's impact on the show. Adding a female kuudere to the cast rounds things out nicely, imo.

Dunno, I did too fall asleep during 2nd episode. Maybe I just have really nothing to watch, so this anime looks interesting especially with that godlike animation.

First two episodes have been a killer for me too, boredom-wise. But gradually I'm starting to enjoy the series. My main issue is, putting aside the excessive speaking speaking speaking, the main characters static-ness. Probably because I prefer character driven stories over plot, mystery in this case, driven ones. But except Oreki the other three mains didn't progress much. At all I dare say. Even Eru, who had most of the interactions with Oreki didn't progress in any real direction. Her interactions don't go beyond the sparkling-eyes-move and her insane curiosity.
So I'm glad that they introduced Irisu in this arc. She seems interesting and smart enough to really interact with Oreki. I mean, not simply waiting for him to solve the mystery of the day. I hope she will be a nice opponent (i.e. since she is trying to conceal something to him for now).

Just like to make clear that while the Kotenbu novel series was set in year 2000, Hyouka (anime) is set in 2012. So the presence of Vocaloid cosplayers is certainly plausible.
