Carefully look at the dates of older posts in this thread (like mine) please - I made those comments nearly three years ago, and a lot has changed since. Especially the last bit

I'm so torn. I want to get hyped for this game, but I never played DQ as a child, so the nostalgia factor doesn't sell to me.

I tried playing the DQ5 PS2 remake a year or so ago but got bored of the game system part way through. Do the games get more interesting as the series goes on, or am I just grasping at straws, and what I saw in DQ5 is pretty much what I'll be getting in 9?

Just curious for those who are really into this series.

So, the game was already released in Japan! Anyone here already got and played? I'm very excited for this one. I'm even thinking in importing it, even if i don't know japanese at all...

hmm this game seems to be getting a lot of (negative) feedback on Amazon (.jp)

it's probably because of the changes to the gameplay

but you see... this is a win win situation for Square Enix

Even if this game doesn't succeed they'll go back to the old formula for the next game and expect considerably more sales. This also known as the New Coca Cola phenomenon.

the amazon reviews are just a coordinated 2ch review bombing, I wouldn't give them much credence (I wouldn't give amazon reviews any credence period, but that's just me)

The game already had over 500 reviews on Amazon long before it was even released so I'd take most of them with a pinch of salt. The word "butt-hurt" comes to mind.

It sold 2 million copies in 3 days, so somebody must like it.

It could be the worse DQ game in the series and still do that.

Something must have gone right, congrats to Square Enix for the success. For such a big release, to have no shortage of supply, score a 40/40 in Fatmistu, and sell 2 million copies over the weekend. Regardless if Fatmitsu is overrated, the game sucks, or it is just the title's hype, that is still amazing.

The wait will be quite a while for the english version, and even longer than that for a crack for the pirated version of the game.

I might actually consider buying this game.

The real question is whether DQX can break 2 million in the first week on the Wii.

Actually, the biggest issue is probably whether it's going to be released on the Wii at all or on the Wii HD or Wii 2 or whatever it's going to be called; it took something like 4-5 years between VII, VIII and IX - which means we could see X in 2013/2014, by which time the Wii is 7/8 years old.

Of course, if they speed up development we could see X a lot sooner, making the Wii a viable platform.

Considering how Japan is handheld dominated period atm...(PSP has outsold the wii pretty easily in the last 18 months) which doesn't look like changing it might not even be made for a console again....
