Medaka Box [Manga]

[Rejuvenation]

The box never went anywhere. The difference is that the requests involving the box has had more complicated factors and spawned longer arcs. The first few requests were in episodic format to help lay the foundation for the setting and the characters. As is typical for a shounen starting out. Especially Jump at that.

I've been over this before, but "stopping Class 13" was a more complex task for several reasons. One of them being that the people to confront this time weren't a bunch of scrubs like earlier in the series and stopping them meant also stopping a generally larger problem. Not on the same level as trying to find a lost puppy or be a model for an eccentric painter.

Color chapters aren't in the magazine at their rated spot (Jump likes to have an even distribution of color I guess). Beelzebub and Bleach were both likely rated higher (making Medaka at least 7). I don't know how Toriko and Sket Dance usually rate, so Medaka might be even lower than that (possibly 9th place).

This rating isn't that good considering there are several stories that are on the chopping block. SWOT and Metallica being the most likely.

That is a piss poor excuse. There are series that get color every week and there are times when there are several colors in a week. Many of those times obviously being series that rank highly so if people wanted they can nitpick rankings week in and week out. Thats why we don't do it and if this were another series and not Medaka Box no one would be trying to play that card.

Considering it is above the likes of Hokenshitsu, Psyren, Kuroko, Gintama and Reborn it is a valid ranking. Especially since the latter 3 have been in the top 5 several times and the latter two in the top 3.

There are always series on the chopping block. The point in Jump is to climb over the corpses of other series. Which Medaka Box has been doing and making it a joy to watch it kick the teeth in of all the naysayers.

Whether series that get covers are ranked or not is still being debated everywhere I look. Any series that got the cover but no color pages from what I can see looking back through the archives was placed at the top. Although a lot of times that ends up being One Piece or Naruto, and they are high anyway, I've seen Bakuman and Toriko(An earlier cover) placed near the top too.

Either way, its 5th or 6th. Still higher than all the set up chapters.

This thread is a whole let less interesting without the naysayers, which oddly enough was my entire reason to read medaka box. now that it's degenerated to self-congratulatory back patting, I think i'll drop both the manga and the thread. What's weird is I had no particular feelings either way on it but the thread made it more interesting.

Some interesting developments in the latest chapter.

Obsessive stalker girl's corrosive ability is so potent that she can even corrode the air around her. She almost takes down Hitomi with it....but with some trickery, Hitomi manages to turn the tables on stalker girl and pin her with her needles and wire work. Stalker girl eventually dissolves an entire school wing to escape.

It also looks like we'll be getting a new character introduced in the next chapter. He's the former student council president who held the position b4 Medaka took over. A man who's presence is so weak that nobody in the student body except Medaka and Zen notices or seems to remember him (sounds like a special stealth related ability)

Zen described him as a man who's existence is like air....yet silently protected Hakoniwa academy for a whole year without anyone noticing. The Hero that no one knows about and cannot be called upon. (because no one notices him)

Medaka suggested him when the council was brainstorming on who to call upon to bolster their forces against the transferees in class negative 13 (aside from Nabeshima and Maguro, their other capable allies and the Plus 6 are all still in the hospital....and the rule enforcers will not move without Unzen's leadership)

Awesome.. all we need is a leaked pic of Medaka slightly blushing so people can rage about the new guy causing that reaction until the actual raw comes out and than this thread will just be like old times.

This former student council president should be interesting. As well as seeing the extent of Emukae's abnormality. Also Hitomi continues to be awesome it seems. A shame we won't see Unzen in the near future but oh well.

Hitomi kicked Emukae's ass, she sent her abnormality into overdrive to escape. And what really scares me isn't even how Kumagawa lets her touch him. It's that, in a batshit crazy sort of way, Emukae still seems to like Zenkichi. And on top of that, Kumagawa seems to be interested in Zenkichi now.

My hopes for an evil Zenkichi have been renewed somewhat.

The minus 13 are no joke, if this continues freaking out, the entire academy could end up disappearing from the face of the earth. The page that shows the result of Emukae's insane abnormality is a good example of what could happen.

And it seems I was right. Emukae, no matter where she puts her hands, her corrosive powers will activate. It makes you understand now why she handles the knives from the blade (iron>wood).

Looks like Hitomi's a psychologist, and seemed to know everything about the sad life of Emukae. Yeah, I say sad because of her abnormality, not a single person (except that crazy bastard) will dare to let Emukae touch them with her hands, otherwise they would corrode. It had to be truly a sad life, to the point she probably could never feel the warm of her family.

She mentioned that she can control the level of corrosion her hands emit....but your right, she can't turn it off.

And Hitomi's a retired surgeon...she just knows the negatives when they were younger because she used to work at the hospital that was involved in gathering and testing children for their abnormalities (the same facility Medaka first met Zen). She was the one who interviewed and tested them.

Once again, it gives me the hope that Class Negative 13 will try and take Zenkichi for themselves. It's hard for Abnormals to get close to people. And for Negative
Abnormals like Kumagawa, who absorbs the negativity from everyone he meets, and Emukae who is desperate to have close contact with someone, it must be impossible for them to get close to others.

Zenkichi is someone they feel they can get close to, if nothing else he's someone that the Negative 13 would probably want around.Unless he chooses to join them, or they turn him evil, I just hope he makes his own connections with them.

If not for him, just because losing him would make Medaka fall apart.

I'm starting to think Kumagawa IS a bit tsundere in the 'he's my rival, we're not friends' sense, given the way Kumagawa keeps speaking of Zenkichi. If he was THAT unimportant, he wouldn't have to protest so much about Zen's uselessness. He's protesting too much for it to be totally true.

I don't know if Kumagawa thinks strategically, or if he actually sees what Zen means to Medaka. Or if he can understand it, with his own issues. But... well, that's one thing nobody who's faced off against Medaka ever seemed to understand - yes, Zenkichi's normal if unbelievably stubborn... but he's the one who keeps getting through to Medaka, even if he's not always privy to her inner thoughts.

Still, a 'corruption of Zenkichi' story could prove interesting, as long as Emukae can keep from trying to kidnap him Yuno Gasai style...

Did Zenkichi know about her corrosiveness before? Because at the same time, he seems nice enough to let her touch him again even if his clothes start falling off as they decay. It does make you wonder whether her attitude contributes to the nature of her dangerous abnormality - it seems to, given how we've seen Medaka's abnormality change when her memories went away. So if she was.. well, less yandere, would she be able to NOT destroy everything around her?

Of course, having Zenkichi 'fix' Kumagawa, Emukae, and the Negative 13 would mean we'd be out of antagonists, so I don't see this happening anytime soon, if at all.
