I bought and read manga volume 08 last night. That's the volume with episode 10's events in it. I can now say with confidence that Rahzel and Heat did not know or know of each other prior to their meeting with Soresta and Vin.

Furthermore, Heat did not know that Rahzel was his foster niece before his older brother's birthday-presents-bearing arrival. They didn't have any secret behind the scenes meetings like we saw in episodes 8 and 9. Rahzel did not know Heat was related to her foster father. Foster father did not know that Rahzel was traveling with Heat. And Alzeid didn't know anything about any of the relations. (The anime was true on that part. Poor Alzeid. ) In the manga, there's this glorious huge WHAT THE? moment when all four meet for the first time.

Ha ha, yep, this is such a great moment in the manga. And just think what would have happened if Rahzel had ever told anyone earlier on, when they asked her, what her last name was! (Her father told her not to tell anyone her last name.)

I only have up to volume 6 of the manga, which made me bawl my eyes out over Rayborn. I wish he would've been in the anime, he wasn't in the manga long but I really liked his character. Even Alzeid cried T__T

and the moment when he left and asked Rahzel to tell him that "She likes him" was the trigger to start crying D:

So, this is how I understood Solesta's plot.

He tried to lure Alzeid back to those old days at the battlefield together with him, thus pushing Rahzel aside at every failed attempt.

I think the best one liner to describe how pathetic of a loser Solesta is that those thoughts were quite perverted as Alzeid bluntly replied with disgust.

And what agreement Baroqueheat has with Rahzel's dad? They talked about returning Rahzel to daddy.

Ok. I'm baffled at learning that this show only ran for about 10 episodes!

Even Zombie Loan last one episode longer than that! Attribute this few episode's count to the lack of available manga material out there preventing the anime from going a full season.

Thats pretty much what I got as well for solesta. In the end he was just an extra in the group. The third wheel if you call. Quite pitiful really, even if he was an obsessed stalker. Alzied put it quite bluntly that he is a hentai (lawlz). But I think that it is only good that he doesn't swing that way

Actually no, there's plenty of manga material available. There are currently 10 volumes of manga in Japan. (Material for volume 11 is currrently serializing in Zero Sum monthly.) What the anime did, unfortunately, was skip huge -- and I do mean huge -- sections of manga material. The anime gutted the interior of the manga leaving little more than the outside skin.

I was going to wait until after episode 10 to post this. But now seems like a good time to post most of it. Here's how the events in the story should have played out according to the manga chapters. I'll also mention significant events that the anime changed from the manga story.

MANGA and EPISODE 10 SPOILERS in spoiler boxes

Rahzel is tossed out of her home and told to go see the world. She meets Alzeid who tells her that he is searching for the woman who killed his father. The two eventually pair up and travel together. Manga chapter: 1. Anime episode: 1.

Alzeid shows off his magic power in a very dramatic fashion. This power is never revealed in the anime. More in a post ep 10 post.

Ghost lady in the forest. Manga chapter: 4 – 5. Anime episode: 1

Baroqueheat is not present during this incident.

Soresta & Vi. Manga chapter: 6 – 10. Anime episode: 8 – 9.

This is where Baroqueheat is introduced. He is traveling with Soresta to escort Vi to the kingdom. Baroqueheat does steal Rahzel’s first kiss but it is not because he’s saying “goodbye” to her like in the anime. Instead, he wants to force Rahzel to remember him. There is no indication here that Baroqueheat knew Rahzel or knew of Rahzel prior to their meeting or that she knew him or knew of him. Heat's secret employer does not appear in any scenes.

The anime did not reveal the truth about Vi’s heritage. He is not the illegitimate son of the king’s dalliance with the maid. He’s a waif that the maid took in and raised like a son. He and the real prince grew up together as brothers. The illness that killed all the king’s legitimate heirs also killed the prince. Vi was disgusted at how his “brother” was denied by the king until the king had no one else left to inherit the throne. So when Soresta and Baroqueheat showed up to retrieve the prince, he impersonated the prince in order to exact some undefined form of revenge. After Soresta died, Vi decided to continue on to the kingdom, but not as impersonator. He was going to tell them the truth and what happened to the real prince.

The anime made two more significant changes. The mysterious unnamed young man I've mentioned before debuts during this incident. After Rahzel and Vi escape from Baroqueheat’s imprisonment, they get lost in the forest trying to find their way back to Alzeid. The young man appears out of nowhere and tells them the direction to travel. He warns Rahzel that she’ll have to hurry if she doesn’t want to see a lot of blood. In other words, he knows that Alzeid and Soresta are dueling and one will likely die if Rahzel doesn’t intervene. Finally at the end of the incident, Rahzel encounters the red-haired young man lurking in an alleyway in town.

As she passes by him, he cryptically says that all the pieces have been gathered, let the game begin. (Similar to what he says at the end of episode 10.)

Larawell incident. Manga chapter: 12 – 15. Anime episode: 5 – 6. (The card game at the beginning of episode 6 is a modified version of a card game in chapter 61.)

The young man shows up here as well. He exchanges oh-so-polite pleasantries with Rahzel.

Spoiler for ep 10:

After she leaves, he calls her by her real name, Rahzenshia Rose, and declares that she belongs to him.

He also meets Alzeid in the sky burial graveyard. The young man asks Alzeid if he had heard of the criminal gene theory. This theory holds that criminal behavior is programmed into a person’s body. If that’s true, then it’s possible to prevent crimes before they happen. Or conversely, it’s possible to create a criminal. The meeting unnerves Alzeid to the point that he wants to leave the village as soon as he meets Rahzel again but she stops him.

Fossil in the cave incident. Manga chapter: 16. Anime episode: 4. No changes worth noting.

Prison fight cage. Manga chapter: 27. Anime episode: 2. Notice the large jump in the manga chapter numbers from 16 to 27. A crucial story arc was skipped. The prison story itself didn’t have any changes worth noting except that Heat arrived at the village with Alzeid and Rahzel not separately as in the anime.

Circus. Manga chapter: 28 – 30. Anime episode: 3. The two changes were that Heat arrived at the circus with Alzeid and Rahzel and the boy’s mother suffered a different fate in the manga.

Ludovika and the albino forest. Manga chapter: 31 – 33. Anime episode: 7. No changes worth noting.

Spoiler for ep 10:

Rahzel’s father. Manga chapter: 58 – 60. Anime episode: 10. Once again, notice the large jump in the manga chapter numbers from 33 to 58. Two crucial story arcs were skipped. I'll talk about changes after I see the sub of ep 10.

Ha! The manga has been running for ten years already. Okay, it's been running pretty slowly, but still there's plenty more the anime could have done.

The anime basically showed some of the least important parts of the plot and skipped the most important ones, including all of volumes 3, 6 & 7, and all but 1 chapter each of volumes 2 and 5.

If you like what you saw in the anime, you should go out right away and buy the 8 Dazzle volumes that are out in English. You won't be disappointed.

So i'm sat here, still amazed by everything that happened in episode 09. To think that such an outstanding episode appeared this close to the end, i mean it makes me want this show to never end even more then i originally thought. Absolute brilliant episode.

Oh yeah, good to see my favorite voice has returned. Yo Koyasu.

Also, the soundtrack release couldn't come any faster. Only a few days wait, though the wait is killing me.

Does the manga continue on after the 10th episode? assuming there won't be a second season for this though we are still left with the unanswered question to who the killer Alzeid's looking for.

And I haven't watched ep10 yet. :P

If you're searching for Hatenkou Yuugi's English version manga in stores or online, you'll need to search for the title "Dazzle". The US publisher is Tokyopop. The manga does continue on after episode 10 which occurs in volume 8 of the manga. However, I would not recommend that you simply start reading the manga at volume 8 because there is a lot of stuff in the earlier volumes that you really need to know in order to understand what's going on. Really, really, really need to know.
