This cast sounds an awful lot like the cast of Sailor Moon. You've got the klutzy leader who draws everybody to her with her personality, the competitive chick with a fire theme who even shares the same last name as Sailor Mars, the shy bookish girl that's apparently the most loyal of all and whose abilities are seemingly non-combat in nature (Mercury), the taller tomboy girl with a green/nature theme (Jupiter) and the elegant beauty that's apparently the most experienced of all of them (Venus).

Being one of the most influential magical girl series, that's probably not a surprise, but a lot of those are general anime archetypes, and I'm confident the show will find its own identity pretty quickly.

I enjoyed that quite a bit, some nice reaction faces on Miyuki, and Akane's class introduction was great.

The wolf... isn't the greatest looking Precure villain, but I dare say I'll warm up to him.

great episode i guess the wolf is not look so much like great villian since he is the first one but the outher villians at the opening look very much threat

Spoiler for Wilhelm Grimm's Magical Girls 01 - Once Upon a Time: Narrated by Kuroko:

Wilhelm was the one who wanted the fairy tales more family friendly, but neither of them toned down the violence. That's Precure for you. As family-friendly as you can get, but these girls will punch things without asking questions. I've found my angle. Now to stick with it for a whole year.

I did like Suite for its concepts, but Smile's doing a far better job with atmosphere. The color palette's a little brighter (but not oversaturated), and the world feels alive. Miyuki had the majority of the screentime this episode, so I'll have to focus my commentary on her. Misato Fukuen put in a good performance here. Miyuki's just barely competent, but in a lovably dorky sort of way. Not quite Tsubomi-like. More Ryotaro-like. I could definitely hear traces of Rika leaking through here.

For Akane's introduction, all I could think was, "Here are the stars... and a bunch of no names." If you're not decked out in primary colors, your best bet is as a one off character. The idea of bookshelves as portals is fairly interesting, if a wee bit complicated.

Precure's finally caught up with Sentai and Rider in one major aspect - talking morphers. The Smile Pact talks! Though it's not Meteor's disco belt, so it's not nearly as cool. The sequence, as befitting a year with five characters, is a little simplified, though not bad.

For the villains... their goal is a BAD END. One is a wolf man. Men are wolves. One possible interpretation of Little Red Riding Hood. Where I'm going with this is exactly where about fifteen doujinshi starring Miyuki and the wolfman voiced by Nakai from Bakuman will. The subtext speaks for itself. And the MotW are evil clowns. Nothing goes quite so well with evil like clowns. Piedmon, Tim Curry, several examples.

I like what the OP is doing with the visuals. People in the 2ch thread said it was eroge like, which I'm okay with. The EDs continue to be more iDOLM@STER-like than kigurumi like. I'd prefer if they stay that way. 3D CG can get creepy if its misused.

Hey, I actually LURVED THIS EPISODE, better than I expected.

(Even though I watched it without subs)

The animations were so well done, the opening was so cheerful and catchy, a WONDERFUL start even though its so typical to have a japanese anime start with a girl who is new and is in a hurry for school. Still, I liked it

Candy was kind of cute, and I loved the shy yellow hair chick. Shes so adorable

Also, the other characters with different coloured hair that you can obviously tell that they're going to be a Precure looks awesome too.. and plus their personalities were interesting

The villian looks..plain. But meh, I'll get used to him. It was cute to see Miyuki scared and stuff, but I wish she didn't run away all the time.. she could at least try and fight. The ending credits were okay. I can't wait for the next episode and see how all those 5 Precures become friends and fight together (: So far, they have shown their title "Smile Precure" very well.

Looking at the trailer and pictures of this new anime before it broadcasted had captured my attention and made me interested in it. Watching the episode now, I'm so happy that it didn't disappoint me
