I update my computer whenever a new fansub is released.

Speaking of which, there really should be more research into lossless encoding.

So back to things then Raistlin - is SSATool a replacement for SSA, or more of a compliment?

I am looking into a less assy way of working with the damned .ssa files...

it's made for typesetting mostly. You wont use it to time things.
For a replacement of that part look at aegisub/medusa/sabbu/whateverelsethereis.
They all work fine and can handle audio.
SSATool will give you great tools for doing effects though.

Yes, assuming you're not doing editing. You can edit with SSATool, but it's not a good interface for it.
