Doing so due to the upcoming release of umineko by mangagamer. Guess I'm wondering how much interest there still is in umineko from the leftover animesuki community? I'm also willing to clarify some things about the new release within the reach of what is possible at that point.

In the hope umineko can get a new hype even if much shorter one. Personally I've been wanting to reread umineko for a long time with a more distant mindset. New translation and visuals is definitively the opportunity to do so for me.
I've already re-read Umineko once, and it was a great experience. Once MangaGamer's finished releasing their new version, I'll be ready for my third read-through

I think Umineko's gotten a lot of hype lately. It's a small fandom, but a passionate and die-hard one.

Yeah, and it really doesn't help the average Steam-user's impression of "VN? Isn't that like a Japanese porn game or something?"

I hope the Umineko sprites avoid that issue, since IMHO Umineko is the best novel for introducing new readers to VNs and getting them interested in the medium.

Umineko's high amount of large breast sadly may count as heavily sexualized. However outside of that I don't think it's an issue in the same way it can be for higurashi.

After all the debates on what is true and what isn't, and what is it we're supposed to seek, I end up missing more then anything the atmosphere of the game. This is what I'll hope to find again by reading it anew.

I'm kinda hoping those die-hard fans will be nice (annoying) enough to gift umineko to some of their steam friends to propagate it again to some extent.

I'm having trouble downloading the PS3 tranlsation on Umineko tweak.
http://uminekofix.wikia.com/wiki/Tweaking_Umineko_Wiki

For some reason the only download on the website seems to have stopped working.
https://mega.nz/#!wYY1mALa!m71VcB1xl...TTtdZTU4eGsfFw

Anybody willing to upload it. I'd really like to get cracking even if it means starting over(i've been using the old translated PC version).

I have just finished Episode 8 of Umineko and I was wondering if someone could clarify for me what the status is of the translation patches for Umineko no Naku Koro ni Tsubasa and Umineko no Naku Koro ni Hane.

I need more Umineko.

Parts of Tsubasa are TLed, Hane is fully translated as far as I know.

It gives you extra scenes. If you fail the riddles, it skips over them.

I read the Umineko VN's up to EP 7 years ago as it was being released, life sort of got in the way after, and I never finished EP 8. Was thinking of restarting the VN's again from EP 1 but the manga has gotten my attention now. I was wondering what people recommended I should go with, reading the VN from the start again to EP 8, or just read the manga now? I've read all around that the manga did a great job on the story, and a better job at EP 8 for most people, but one of the things I loved most was the soundtrack. I'm not opposed to rereading the series again, going VN then manga, but would you guys say that's generally worth it?

Sorry if it's been asked a dozen times already.

The general consensus is that the manga version of EP8 is much better.

Well, it's happened: the Umineko VN got an official release courtesy of MangaGamer, and it has both new character art (lifted from the Umineko Pachinko game, from what I understand), and an updated translation courtesy of our good friends at Witch Hunt to boot. How's it hold up, anyway?

I like the graphics. Haven't had a chance to prepare scripts yet.

As in graphics you mean the sprites, right? I don't know. Yeah, in a way, it's kinda neat to see the characters drawn in a art different style; however, the style itself isn't all that great. In my opinion, the new pc sprites comes off pretty lazy and lack emotion more than the PS3 sprites, something I thought wasn't possible until now. Actually, looking at the comparison now, the PS3 sprites aren't half bad.

Not sure if this is the correct thread to necro (or whether it is allowed) but is anyone going to help funding this? https://gematsu.com/2018/11/umineko-...for-november-7

Honestly I'm more interested with additional content stuffs, but the audiobooks is surprisingly decent for me

I wouldn't even think of supporting it if it didn't have the option of using the JP voices instead. I just cannot stand most English dubs of Japanese works, escpacially in such a story that is ACTUALLY set in Japan and it being in Japan is an actual plot point. And I say that despite everyone involved even including the original author and the TL group that translated all of the original versions of Umineko and Umineko Chiru into English.

And I got the feeling that I am not the only one who feels this way...

...Or maybe I am just completely misreading the thing? On the comment section it's implied that it will upgrade the already existing steam version? I hope any bonus content would have JP voices as well though...

Yeah, I think we probably need to wait for KS page to be released first. I'm not sure about the current steam version, but one of the comment mentioned that he found JP seiyuu on audiobooks so maybe the voice patch will include japan voice too? There's a mention about witch hunt translation too so maybe people here have better info than the articles.

...I'm not sure if they're still coming here to this section of animesuki though

I still check the thread times to times.
As I stated on twitter, that dub project was the idea of Sound Cadence and they were pretty much eager to make some sample before presenting that idea to 07th Expansion and to us.

As a matter of fact, I don't really care about dubs in general, since I play games and watch movies in their native languages all the time. That said, there was no reason not to help them regarding the scripts, so we rolled with that. That said, we have absolutely no involvement aside of script checking, so we have no idea regarding the stretch goals and other potential extra content.

Just...watch the preview they released. Content starts 2:30 minutes in.

There are no words. NO WORDS to describe how incredible these actors are. It's like they had a legit emotional meltdown in the studio and they recorded it unedited.

Oh, and they're all Ryu07-approved.

Yes this is indeed "worthy" of being called an English dub and the quality of it is at least above 95% of all the other English dubs I have seen up until now, however my stance doesn't really change because of that.

Is English my mother tongue? No.
Is this an English work? No.
Does the context perhaps justify the work to be in English (e.g. how Metal Gear is a Japanese work, but the characters are American)? No, because it takes place in Japan, which is a very important plot point.

If I was born in a primarily English country or if the dub was in the same quality but in German instead (even more of a rarity than a good English dub), I might have reconsidered though. I'd probably still go with Japanese dub though.

Well, as long as the Japanese dub can still be selected, and for the new extra material as well, then there's no problem.
