or maybe they are, that's the point of the question, imho, the world seems to be "darker" so to speak in the epilogue, while that is because the world became a worse place because of madoka's wish (butch gen at work) or just as contrast to madoka's wish maters too.

The world didn't strike me as a darker place post-Madoka wish than it was before. It didn't strike me as any better for your average everyday person, but nor did it strike me as any worse.

Ultimately, these new demon creatures didn't strike me as any worse than the old witches and familiars, and that's probably what would matter most as far as the world in general is concerned.

But then, we'd need to spend a bit more time in post-Madoka world to know for sure, and that's where the third movie comes in. If we see these demons creating chaos and destruction on an even larger scale than what Walpurgis Night would have done, then we can determine that Madoka's wish probably caused more bad than good. Otherwise, I'd be inclined to think that Madoka's wish caused more good than bad.

Darker, how? The world seems better, if anything.

I mean hell, I know they weren't the focus and they had extremely little screentime, but the Wraiths seem to be much easier to dispose of than the Witches and their familiars. They don't even have barriers to hide in.

Well the world as seen in the epilogue could happen in real life considering all the crap that humanity has done during the past 60 years.

Oh, wait, you guys are talking about that desert? That's not an apocalyptic scenario. It's just "Not Japan" according to the script.

For all we know Homura's just in Egypt.

Homura vowed to protect the world. She probably decided to walk the earth and protect it, instead of focusing on one town. Maybe she couldn't stay there since the whole place was a constant reminder of Madoka not being there anymore.

Besides, with the sort of powers she has at that point it would be a waste to stay in Mitakihara when she can use them to help people all around the world.

Not to mention that Mitakihara has Mami and Kyouko looking after it. In a world where magical girls don't become witches, that's perhaps enough for Mitakihara Town alone.

then there is despair, now that qb's don't get as much energy they might be getting more girls to contract just to gather more energy, but then again they don't gain energy from the mahou shoujo to witch conversion so I guess they only gain energy from defeating enemies.

The thing is, it doesn't matter how many Puella Magi there are since the number of Wraiths, and thus Grief Cubes, is fixed. Multiple Puella Magi only creates competition, and thus a net loss of energy.

Madoka's system is unambiguously better than the old one in every way, even if it's not perfect.

How do we know that? If these things come from humanity's darkness I doubt their number is fixed.

the number of demon (or Wraiths) is NOT fixed, they are manifestation of human's grief and negative emotion. the reason they not exist in the old world is because witches used to consume them before they strong enough to manifest .

What I mean is that the creation of more Puella Magi doesn't create more Wraiths like it does with Witches. Nothing the Incubators do can really change the number or rate of Wraith generation. The more Magical Girls you contract, the less Grief Cubes there are to go around, and the Incubators needs to keep them alive as long as possible in this universe.

You're going to need to source me on any of this. I don't think it's anything officially supported whatsoever.

I was thinking that if they continue fighting, it's like a grief seed cleaning. If they give up then, they'd disappear

that's the biggest question in this universe, how do mahou shoujo clean their soul gems, we know that newer models of b's can do somekind of cleaning; depending on that the more mahou shoujo there exist is better or worse.

....Uh, we saw how Magical Girls clean their soul gems, though. Kill Wraiths, collect Grief Cubes, apply to Soul Gem, feed to Kyubey. What's the big mystery?
