Angel Heart

I noticed there's absolutely no thread about this anime, so i thought i'd start one.

There are 52 episodes planned and 13 are available on fansub now
I really like it so far... as i liked City hunter before it and i have to admit that the new female main character is not making me miss Kaori (even if of course she wont end up with ryo, that place, at least in my eyes, is for Saeko).

Can't believe i'm really the only one that's watching it?

Well I really like it. It really got me started on City Hunter which is really good. I have only watched like 6 episodes so far of Angel Heart, but I plan to stick on this one for awhile.

I thought it was especially good. I'd never seen City Hunter
but I didn't need to see that to understand what was happening
in this series.

Great animation at times - the apocalyptic opening scene where
our Heroine
Spoiler:
with all of the
building lights animated looked almost real - very nice.

Some heartfelt emotions and some intrigue as to her background
and if City Hunter will find some way to live post-Kaori.

Great stuff so far. 52 episodes! An epic then! I'm all for it.

I admit i was quite shocked the first time i heard about Angel Heart... it's quite unusual for a mangaka to kill one of the main characters at the very beginning of a series.

to be honest, though, it opens the road to a couple interesting scenarios. I wonder if anything "serious" will develop between Ryo and Saeko.
Their relationship seems to have deepened somewhat between kaori's death and the beginning of Angel heart. She behaves quite differently towards Ryo than in City Hunter (where she was just another girl on wich Ryo used to hit on, just a recurring one), she for sure thinks of him in a more romantic way, and is even much more jaelous and possessive. In a way i'm glad about it, i always saw her as a very cool character, so i would be glad if she got some spotlight during this sequel.

I like Angel Heart very much. As we all know it's the continuation of City Hunter.

City Hunter has been pretty repetitive for the last 100 + episodes. I guess thats what makes it fun to watch, but to a point some changes is required to continue on.

And boy this is the type of change I've anticipated.
Personally I kind of disliked Kaori lol I find her very annoying and was a bit sick of her and the repetitive stuff in the series. This is exactly whats needed to help make Kaori a favorite. Angel heart looks good in terms of story content, it's very serious stuff, the plot actually connects episode after episode.

Back in City Hunter it didn't really matter which order we watch the episodes, because the most it connect is 3 episode part 1 , 2, 3. Now in Angel Heart you pretty much need to watch from the proper order, which is refreshing in terms of watching City Hunter.

I hope more group looks into subbing it.

So far the English subbing I've found is only up to 11.

It's subbed by Anime-kraze. thats the only group listed on baka-updates.

They toned down Ryo-chan's Mokkori motive so much in this anime. And fights aren't a good as the original city hunter. I guess that's why they called it a drama.

I've just recently started watching City Hunter again. I've randomly watched episodes a long time ago, but recently I decided to just straight out watch this series from beginning to end. And I just knew about this relation to City Hunter in this anime. (yes, I would have known much earlier if this anime was more popular).

I guess Ryo finally matured(because of someone's demise?).

I ended up watching some of Angel Heart just to see the rare tender moments between Kaori and Ryo that I never got to see in City Hunter. I guess the author felt guilty. Anyways, AH is not so bad. I can't see this as a continuation because the story about Kaori and how Kaori first met Ryo totally deviated from City Hunter. AH looks really nice but I prefer CH art though. Though it's not as refined but it looks more appealing to me. I also like the atmosphere in CH more.

not really

cuz both series are not 100% related
since some of the character backgrounds are different from the original city hunter

I haven't watched the anime of Angel Heart
but I have read up to Vol.10 of it
but still, I like City Hunter a lot better......

I've never seen or read the City Hunter series and I've been enjoying Angel Heart. IMO, they fill you in on the parts you need to know about the CH background.

I think AH is really underated... It has a good mix of action/comedy/touching moments... I absolutely adore this show...and have bought every Manga up to this point...

I actually prefer AH much more than CH...for various reasons:

* Saeba is much more mature in AH... His OVERLY "flirty" antics in CH get repetitive...
* the "deviations" form the CH story line fit really well in AH
* I love watching the special bond between Glass Heart and City Hunter grow...
* In CH, you know Saeba cares for Kaori...but you hardly see it on screen...Even in Manga, you don't get some real "awwwww" moments till the last several Volumns... but in AH, you see immediately how much Saeba cares for Xian Ying...
* (the Saeba Vs. best friend Vs. father Arc was definitely the BEST in CH)...but I have high hopes that AH will have an Arc that will surpass that... Since the early Arcs in AH are much more powerful/emotional than early arcs in CH.

In short, give it a chance...you don't need to know much about CH to enjoy this show...but of course, you would appreciate some of the elements much more if you have prior knowledge... This anime has much more substance than most out there... My 2 cents...

Totally off subject, and yet still on subject, does anybody know what the song was in Angel Heart, they play it during Kaori and Ryo's scene in episode 1, 'nd episode 2 when Glass Heart sits down at the Cat's Eye.

*EDITED*

Found it, nevermind. In case anybody else wanted to know, Kanon - Gloria.

Episode 27 is out now. Thankfully, episode 26 was just a "filler" type show, instead of a redirection to a lighter-comedic style. This show has been good the entire time. The "episode per month" period let's them put out some really polished shows.

In this episode, you do get to really see Saeba's feelings for Kaori... I'll not say more and spoil it...

I know that Angel Heart is an alt universe, but I can't help but take all my memories of Ryo and Kaori from CH, tie it into the AH story and wham....

Spoiler for that scene made me sniffle:

I know lots of my friends who are CH fans don't like AH as its not the same or has too much drama, but I really like the way the whole story (not just Ryo) has grown up.

It's good to see some of Kaori's violent tendencies slipping out

Never saw City Hunter personally but this is an intriguing story for sure.

The music is good too, well produced "adult contemporary quasi-jazz".
