It's only the central valley vote. There still hope. I can't wait to see the results of LA, San Fran, and the other big cities. I live in the central valley and let me tell you that even Mitt Romney won in this area.

if the GOP double downs on the ultra-conservative side, they'll only end up on the wrong side of history as the demographic shift continue to go the other way.

The pundits can say what they want, but I don't think the GOP is stupid enough to want to cement itself as a minority party going forward.

He's shouldn't concede until all the polls are closed. That means waiting for Alaska to close in about 20 or so minutes.

This is such a poor and ridiculous thing for them to say.

Must I remind those people that the last good/very good Republican president was a moderate Republican president who took his time pondering the good policies from his predecessors? Geez, there's never any good for a politician to lean on either extreme of the ideological spectrum when running for the top chair of the country.

*nod* Which is appalling from a "political strategy" POV. Romney being more conservative would just have moved more moderate swing voters to Obama's camp and made the President's reelection. It's just more polarization, more extremism, which is bad on any and all sides. I don't care what one's position is; if they're fanatical about it, it's a bad thing.

(Heh, I know what you mean about hazy outcomes: I'm a social liberal on most things (the exceptions tending to be crime and the military), and I oppose the national Republican party's fiscal policy, but I support the state Republican party's fiscal policy in the wake of over a decade of Democratic mismanagement...only we've got a complete throw-the-tea-in-the-bay wingnut for a governor. *headdesk*)

Too bad the current GOP leadership doesn't care, they would rather play revisionist history and stop Obama from doing anything.

Also of note, looks like the 4 states that had same-sex marriage on their ballot is looking like they may all pass, with Maryland projected to pass already.

How can he not get enough votes for not being conservative enough? Do they think too many ultra conservatives voted for Obama? Or do they think maybe just didn't vote because he was not conservative enough?

The usual trick is to get more moderate so you get the independants and right leaning Democrats to vote Republican...not go full hard core extremist.

Has anyone noted the voter turnout percentage of the population yet, or will that take another several days (to a week maybe) fo find out?

Not unexpected. I imagine the teahatters will firmly lock the party in a losing cultural battle until they're eventually either booted out by resurgent rational Repubs, or damage the brand beyond repair.

Missouri's Senate race seems to sum that up nicely. McCaskill's campaign (the Democratic incumbent) spent $2 million supporting Akin in the Republican primaries because they figured that he was so hard-right that he'd be the easiest to beat...and they were quite right.

So Florida managed to be entertaining for a few hours but in the end is irrelevant. Ohio even proves to be somewhat irrelevant.
