questions for you!! yes you!
i never really understood the term HIDDEN villages ... they seem pretty out in the open to me... there invite all the countries for a paaartay also.. nd are shinobi's a country's troops? or elite units that are jez for show.... displaying the cojones of the country... plus... could u imagine how long a ninja war would take... i mean it took 9283749283478 episodes for the fight between the 2 jounins (kakashi and zabuza) to finish... imagine how many episodes it would take for several jounins to fight another group of jounins

I'm pretty sure this was explained in like episode 6 or 7
The ninjas are the military power of a country, who stand equally with the government. About the 'hidden' villages, you got me. As for the jounins vs. jounins thing, about ten seconds, unless it involves one or more named characters, then about 2-5 episodes. |

actually the location of each hidden village isnt widely know with civilians at least, yes the other countries know where the village's are but most general citizend say of the wind country dont know where the sand village is thats y they are called hidden villages
about the jounins fighting it highly depends on the importance of the fight |
