I was also kinda tricked by the general lull in people's deaths, and what more things lightening up. But you know, evey time I see the ending pic, I'm always reminded that they're the main characters...

I'd be most sad if Soushi dies (but I think it's almost inevitable he will anyway My dream is that Kazuki dies and we have Soushi/Maya, happy ever after~) .. But it is rather crappy if Kanon dies at this point. Oh well.

I *BET* you by tthe next episode Kenji would have done *something* drastic. Like kill himself. Another important factor are the adults. In the trial scene I thought I felt a bit of dislike towards Chizuru coming from Sakura's mother. Sakura's mother was evidently very distraught after Sakura's assimilation... I'm pretty sure we'll see something coming from there too.

Dum de dum de dum... If this is supposed to be an Evangelion clone, then I feel more tempted to try Evangelion out.

Regarding Tsubaki, if she's only living 3 months why did they still ecide to let her continue running about? Perhaps she thoguht everything could be solved in 3 months so she decided to come out and since she's a Core the rest of the island has no choice except to let her do whatever she wants.

Gah. ANyway I can't wait for next ep cos I wanna know what happens to Soushi.

Maya owned everyone...That was amazing. Sad thing is if they had her be a pilot from the start maybe Shouko would still be alive and Kouyou not about to jump out of that pod after being assimilated (at least that's what it looks like)

I really liked Maya's fafner unit too. The purple looked good and the long-range sniper gun is cool. Guess hanging out with Mizoguchi paid off...heh

Things are too happy right now...Too positive. I think a lot of death is coming and I wouldn't be surprised if all of the fafner pilots except for Maya and Kazuki are dead before the finale.

I laughed during trial when they all came and blamed themselves, and all had different excuses why they did that. Also parents reactions were funny, some supported, while others throwed objects at their children.

Episode 19. -> Maya

It seemed that Maya has natural ability to fight, but how well is she in hand-to-hand combat, since most of the fights are more or less like that, it was just this time when the enemy had a weakness that was perfect for her as all she had to do was shoot them from distance, while the others needed some luck to hit the eye.

I agree, I expect last episodes to be a real tearjerkers...
In episode 19 Makabe said that maybe they will lose some of the pilots, but all were, more or less, fine after fight. If/when next pilot is killed it will be when you last expect it...

This is realy unbelievable! The series has did a 180 and is doing real well now! I'm happy that I stuck to Fafner and I hope the others that have droped it pick it back up again becuase you are missing out on a good anime

Totally enjoyed episode 18 and 19. Especially 19. Whoever put that comment on the Tokyo Toshokan page was straight on. Toominator, indeed, her performance during combat was totally ice like and professional. I like the bit where she kept calling Soushi and asked why her long range rifle was locked and unable to fire.

Toominator, hmmmm..

She's one of those people who's emotions and attitudes change in different situations. All the characters fight for a different reason and this will show in the next few eps.

This episode is a kill fest. A Festum possesses the super-Fafner the Human Army was building. The Traitor Doc, Yuki, was piloting it and she's assimilated. Toomi's father also bites the big one).

On the island, people are mourning Mamoru's death and Kenji's catatonic with grief. The Fafner/Festum attacks the island while Tsubaki and Kazuki try to free Soushi from the Siegfried System when things go way south, way fast. Kanon, Michio and Toomi intercept the Fafner easily enough... but no matter how much they damage it, it keeps getting back up. Toomi's Fafner gets mostly vaporized by a Black Sphere of Death (she barely escapes from what I can tell). Kanon's Fafner bites it too, but she clearly gets away safely.

While this was happening, the bridge crew and the base are attacked by the remains of the Festum that was wrapped around the Siegfried System. There are casualties all round the base and Tsubaki is suffering badly.

Outside, Michio delays the Fafner/Festum and gets thrashed as a result. He engage the Fenrir self-destruct and ejects... but the Fafner/Festum graps the pilot pod and smashes it against Michio's Fafner just as it blows up. Michio is now very dead.

The ED comes on (a slow variant)...

... and once it's done, we get an extra scene with Soushi nearly assimilated... who blows himself up with a Black Sphere of Death, eating Kazuki's Fafner's arms along with it.

Yep. Shoushi's dead, or at least that's what it looks like.

Ep. 23 is really heavy. Super angst here folks! It really blew me away. Despite it's slow start, this anime has become really interesting, although a couple of characters I liked have been killed off now, including

I saw the death coming. I totally didn't see Soushi's death coming. Yeah... I'm trying to think of something and it isn't coming... again, "wow, shit" summarizes this entire episode for me.

So... Yukipe, Maya's dad, Mamoru's mom, Kenji's mom? (the one that was talking Kazuki through), bunch of random techie guys, Michio , it doesn't look like Kazuki's dad made it either, and Soushi

And in the next 3 episodes, they have everyone else on the island to kill off. Hmm maybe 24 will be an 'angst and remember those who've fallen', followed by 25 'let's kill everyone else'. Makes me think that its gonna have a world reset ending. I really hate those.

But Kazuki has the whole determined pilot/leader look in the previews...

Woah... this episode was really.. um.. uh.. heavy in story development and resolution.

They went and knocked off a few characters, especially the one at the end of the ending credits - Fenrir consumes Odin, as per the Norse mythology, if anyone is still following/aware of the Norse mythology linkages in this series.

So much pain, so many unfulfilled hopes/wishes, so much sorrow...

Call me perverse, but I really did enjoy this episode a lot.

The next episode is the lull before the bigger storm coming.

I certainly did *NOT* expect one of the 3 to die. I almost won't mind if it Soushi manages to survive. BUt... WHAT THE HELL! Out of the 3 I elast didn't want Soushi to die. And htis early!? What kinda...

Rather sad episode. I didn't want Soushi to die. *sigh* And he never got his feelings returned by Maya either.

I really enjoyed this ep though. I actually felt vaguely sad! And the animation that ep was kinda good too. (Notice a lot of in-house key animators).

As best that I can tell, Soushi/Odin decided to take himself out. The Festum would have wanted to assimilate him and take control of the Brunhilde system. Soushi would most likely have decided to prevent such an occurence and with his near total assimilation, he went for the final option - self-destruction by Fenrir. Kudos to the VA of Kazuki as I could hear the desperation and deep despair in Kazuki's calling out to Soushi. The placement of the event at the very end of the ED was a good move as it made a what-the-fuck moment that few were expecting.

Tsubaki stopped halfway due to the distraction of the Festum-controlled Fafner attacking the island. She feels everything of the island and especially of the Fafner pilots. Unable to fully concentrate at the task at hand, the Festum gripping the control bubble room recovers to take further control.

Now we await the final part/resolution of Ragnorak (refer Norse mythology)...

i been thinking about downloading this series or Gundam Seed Destiny ( havn't seen Gundam Seed 1st season) ,but both seems like they are just going to be another Eva or , Rahxephon so is it worth to download? , is this series different in a big way to most Mec shows out there?

also does this show seem to be going to have a good ending?, i get so annoyed watching shows with crappy endings

I would suggest you to watch Gundam Seed 1st season before watching Destiny, or you won't be able to understand what's going on at all.

I really don't see any similarities between Gundam Seed and Eva, but it might be true for Soukyuu no Fafner. You should give it a try before ruling it out.

I just have to say this. Fafner is 60x better than anything Fukuda has ever directed. Even with it's teenage angst -_-.

which translates into (I think) "final episode, Soushi and Kazuki together head to a binding of eternity"

I guess being the no.1 main protagonist, Kazuki will get the better end of the deal after all
