I think, the Happy End or Dead End just means winner or loser without connection to how it was achieved, depending on the function of the diary. So maybe he gets killed under other circumstances, not involving Yuno, or Yuno kills Yuki and the diaries seize to function after that point.

BTW i actually read the manga, but I am putting myself in the position as if I did not, so I am writing thoughts as if i am a first time viewer, so I am not going to spoil anything

You would think that the last entry would somehow mention that they had won or defeated the other diary holder.
"Yuno and Yuki come together" implies Yuki is alive.
Yuno doesn't even act like this is a sign that she wins.
She sees the happy end and then looks at Yuki while blushing.
It seems quite clear how she is interpreting that message.

im loving how each diary holder that appears is more broken,wicked and manipulative than the last one, it keeps the tension knowing all the characters are willing to kill, even more knowing the protagonist its not the exception haven tried to kill twice and succeded once.

Really fun show, as Episode 4 continues to demonstrate.

Pacing is great, and there's good amounts of crazy and intensity all over the place.

The anime takes itself just seriously enough that the plot is engaging, but the characters still take the spotlight.

Artwork/animation isn't amongst the best of the season, but it gets the job done well enough.

9/10 for Episode 4.

Psychotic women scare more than and it seems this anime is full of them. I can already see how this is all going to end, in a very very very bad way.

Good episode, but I'm gonna be eyeball-rollin' if they save Ninth in the process and she allies with them as repayment. The fact that all the Diary users are still alive four episodes in with 12 total users, seems to suggest that either all the Diary users aren't going to be killed, and our protagonist(s) finds a way to cheat the system, or there's going to be some mass killing of some Diary users in future episodes.

I'm not sure which choice I'd prefer.

Lastly, it seems VERY strange for the Detective to just up and vanish. I wonder what that's all about.

HAPPY END Then happy end would deffinitly mean winner. It just seems kind of vague right now since Yuno is the only one to get a happy end, and it doesn't seem to even be in relation to the game.

The manga was like "Bam!" The anime was like "Heh~" While lines in the manga had impact, the anime's lines just flow by like a will o' wisp. The difficulty of adaption, hai. Well, at least her voice actor fitted for the moment. Yu-... On the other hand, the 12th's scenes were powered-up. In a good meaning. Great job here too. Loved his dance, even though his voice and everything made him look like a masochist instead. It's impossible to animate his change to katakana speech, so it can't be helped, perhaps. Even though it is one of his unique characteristics... Yuno's actions... Well, no, the usual madman antics there, but I guess her facial expressions are a bit off the line in the anime. Anyways, a bit off in the facial expressions, I feel. (not just for Yuno) Guess it will take two episodes, after all. That little girl's voice... EP 4 Discussion: Spoiler: There's some anime-original content here that smooths out some of the manga's jumpy story-telling. We get a better insight into Amano-kun's psychology and we get some subtle insight into the 12th's psychology. It also assuages my concerns about the low budget and the action: yeah, this is still visibly a low-budget anime in some ways, but the staff is using that budget really well. Some of the action could've been better-animated but it's still more than adequate to tell the story. Serenade Beta: Spoiler: I can see where you're coming from on Tsubaki's dead end reveal, but in the manga I read her as cutesy from start to finish. Like that's her big trick: she seems harmless and cutesy. So this was close to how I thought she "should" be, and I was actually worried at first that she was coming across too "dark" at the beginning. Last edited by miketyson; 2011-10-30 at 15:27. Like how she immediately thought to kill 6th after she thought Yuki was brainwashed. Think its an easy choice for Yuki its either live or die, so he should choose Yuno. Lol 12th is a real nutcase. 9th seems fine even though she lost an eye, at least she's not in pain anymore. The question is why did 12th capture her if he was after 6th the whole time. But I only say that because the more you get to know Yuki's character, the more I suspect that Yuki would have used the wrong hole. He didn't have to hurt her by telling her that he doesn't trust her. I mean, she does seem trustworthy. Spoiler for Very: I've trusted her to make the censors work hard. This is a good start so far.
