Automobiles are the biggest killers in anime/manga

I swear, nothing causes more anime/manga/game deaths than cars and trucks and their reckless drivers. It's insane just how many people die this way. Now every time I see an intersection in anime or manga I just think that someone will die.

Truck-san is just doing his job--

Lately, he received a lot of order to send individuals to fantasy world, be it as themselves or reincarnated into someone/something else.

Mysterious disease that shall remain unnamed is a strong challenger here.

To be fair, automobile-related accidents do in fact cause a lot of deaths, more so than firearms per year iirc.

Indeed, that's quite realistic. Reckless drivers do a lot of damage.

The leading causes of death in the US are cancer and heart disease. Vehicle accidents are a strong third, and in fact are number one for teens, iirc. Gun deaths, tragic as they usually are, are actually fairly low overall (there are some trouble spots like Chicago), and are usually suicides.

That's my memory of the data, but I haven't seriously looked in a while. It's not much of a shock that Japan would base fictional deaths around vehicles given their small crowded streets and suicide by train issues. Here's a taste of Japanese roads in smaller towns:

According to this list (admittedly it is from Wikipedia, but I believe it is based on data from reliable sources) auto accidents are by far the most common form of accidental death in developed countries, unsurprising given the ubiquity of cars. In this case, I think anime got it right.

And, as I mentioned over in the Izetta thread, a persistent convention in anime and other popular media is that opponents with guns rarely if ever hit their targets.

They should really trade their bullets-shooting gun with truck-shooting gun.

Except it's usually not vehicle to vehicle accidents, it's usually a pedestrian getting nailed by a truck, mostly due to the pedestrian not paying attention.

Yep, 50% awesome, 50% wtf, give you 100% accuracy (okay, that's not true and mathematically incorrect, but I am not going to argue that with the guy wielding a Car Launcher). .
