I think that Zwei is right at what he says. Sadly, the three OVAs were so ridiculous. Then they managed to screw up the ending.
Eeven if you make the rest of the episodes perfect, if you don't do a good final, then that series is just mediocre. Spoiler:
@Zwei: Perfect ending!!! That can be easily my true ending for Phantom! It has a perfect conclusion! |

I would honestly feel more trolled if Phantom got a fairytale ending. For a title so conformed to methodical execution, it'd be complete nonsense for it to pull a Disney. The actual ending scene isn't particularly amazing in the cinematic sense per se, but the ultimate dénouement is certainly appropriate considering one of the ongoing themes of season two is the tragic misfortune attached to becoming a Phantom. If anything, the script Phantom makes a lot of sense within its own fictional constraints. Any attempts to inject contrived "happiness" into it would have boded poorly for the story in all respects.
