Given what few we know of the Index MCU humans are easily mutated or Mutates. They do not go into puberty and spontaneously have powers like the X-Men franchises mutants. Scorch was suspected to have powers due to a nuclear accident. Blackout got his with Dark Force. Blizzard got his with his ice machine. Graviton well he got thrown inside a Gravitonium generator. Movies had Red Skull, Steve Rogers, Bucky, Bruce Banner, Bucky and Blonsky take versions of the Super Soldier serum with varying results. There is also Samuel Sterns who got infected by the Hulk's blood. Then there is Extremis. The Twins implied to have been mutated by Loki's staff.

Which brings into question if Skye is an 084 was she mutated or was she born with a power? Cause that would go against what we know of MCU mutated humans. Unless she isn't a human to begin with.

Odds are mutated, if she really is an established character. There's still a strong possibility that she could end up as either Spider-Woman or Mockingbird. Mockingbird's background is extremely similar to Skye's, but Spider-Woman isn't too far off considering she's an agent of SHIELD, plus HYDRA was heavily involved in her origin story.

That said, I LOVED this episode. Simmons is really becoming my favorite character. Loved her response to the box question. "Just say the first thing that comes to mind. What's in the box?"

So, the question: Who was behind T.A.H.I.T.I.......

COULSON was behind T.A.H.I.T.I.

So T.A.H.I.T.I. was started as a project to revive an Avenger killed in action, but the side effects got as bad as full-blown psychosis. The only way to curb that was to rewrite their memory so they'd forget the experience, but even then it wasn't a true success. Coulson thought it was so bad, that he was going to resign after recommending T.A.H.I.T.I. be shut down and never used on anyone, ever.

Then Loki stuck him with his staff on the helicarrier. So, yeah.

None of this will make Coulson any happier with Fury about using T.A.H.I.T.I. on him.

Huh.

Ward is finding (read: eating in the face) more reasons for a possible defect back to the good guys, but for real. Garret has Deathlok stop Ward's heart to convince Skye to decript the drive.

I doubt it will be as convenient as just siding back with Coulson and co. (in fact, I have doubts it'll happen at all), but it seems that they're building up to Ward at least taking out Garret/saving the team as his final deed.

This series started off good and has been shooting up a steep slope for the past couple months.

Coulson: "Garret was the first Deathlok."

Raina: "Skye is just like me on the inside."

So Skye's parents were the monsters that killed the villagers looking for her as a baby.

So much for building up Ward as a comeback good guy. He shot his dog back so many years ago (on Garret's orders I believe) and dropped Fitz and Simmons out of a plane.
Even the dog didn't think he'd do it.

Garret was dying from organ failure, but Raina succeeded in replicating the GH serum and shot him up with it. But apparently it did something more potent with him than it did with Coulson and Skye......
Garret: "I can feel the universe."

Episode ends with Coulson, May, Trip, and Skye facing down six Centipede soldiers and a guy with the Berserker staff.

Next Episode: "A season finale that requires a special Marvel guest star." Looks like Samuel L. Jackson might be getting more than just a Marvel One-Shot of screentime. .

Also, poor Fitz. He ended up broken and brain damaged to save Simmons.

I fangirl-squealed when Fury pulled out the Destroyer Gun. "I know what it does" says Phil.
Though I do wish they could have better replicated the special effects from the movie, the way we saw the gun in this episode was.........a bit weak in comparison.

Oh, and I fangirl-squealed when Fury showed up to save Simmons and Fitz.

Phil Coulson, director of SHIELD. I like the sound of that. I guess we know where the Avengers are getting their government (maybe?) support in Age of Ultron.

"Because you slept with her. And she's pissed."

I admit, I was stunned pretty much speechless when Garret got vaped by Coulson after "suiting up." I didn't see that prompt vaping part coming.......

Also, Ward is clearly not gone for good. Though I expected something more...."outsanding" for his defeat than just a Douchebag Downfall.

I fangirl-squealed yet again when Mike got the message that his son was safe. And then he turned and glared at Garret...... "You're gonna get it, sucker!"
Hope we get to see him as a cameo character in season 2, popping in to help the tem.

Interesting point: Garret never told Coulson and Fury that he was shot up with GH (which is why they didn't get the blood brothers connection), so while they blew it all off as crazy rants, it looks like he was really on to something.
I wonder if it's like the marker signal in Dead Space; like the marker, the GH is sending some kind of message to the person's brain, but if the person doesn't have the brainpower to comprehend it, it makes them go crazy instead.

On the other hand, this is one situation where common sense would be to call in Tony Stark for backup. I doubt Coulson would have a hard time getting a message to him, and this is hardly the situation to be keeping SHIELD's old secrets. (Coulson being dead officially) Too bad they probably didn't have the budget to bring in Robert Downey Jr. for the episode. Then again, they brought in Samuel L. Jackson.......but I guess they probably couldn't afford both. And Fury needed to be here more than Stark.

I doubt Simmons is gone for good. The fact her actor is around instead of her character being written off tells me the character will be coming back, and all the news for season 2 said the principle cast (including Simmons) was coming back for season 2 anyway.

They did too good a job making us like Ward in season 1. I'm waiting quite impatiently for when he finally regains the trust of the team. (they practically announced this will happen from the "uneasy alliances" line Coulson gave with a shot of Ward at the end of the episode)
But I really cringed at Skye accusing Ward of liking killing people. Ward made it clear he didn't enjoy killing even after he showed his true colors, and unless Simmons completely lied when she told the others what happened when Ward dropped them in the water, they'd know that he didn't enjoy it at all.

That stupid @$$hat Talbot, though. Did we really need a bullheaded idiot who can't tell when somebody is clearly a good guy and stop ewasting time chasing him when there are real bad guys? And what happened to Coulson and the team cooperating with those military guys at the end of the season 1 finale, after the bus team saved several military officials? (it's the main reason I'm surprised Coulson's team are still considered fugitives in this season) Did Talbot decide to just completely ignore that? And all the times Coulson offered his help this episode?

He's from the army. He works under Thunderbolt Ross. His whole schtick is basically going after whoever is deemed a threat by the government and not caring whether they're actually bad or not. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a Hulk or Ross name drop from him soon.

Thinking on it, I have a hypothesis on what the Obelisk is.

This is on the assumption that TAHITI is based on Inhuman rather than Kree. The Obelisk is quite possibly a Terrigen Crystal. It judges those it touches, and either changes them (into stone) or glows to show acceptance. The odd part is it did both to Lucy Lawless's character. Skye said it glowed, but then it changed her. We saw it spread much more slowly on her than the waitress as well, so I'm sure she'll come back before the end of Season 2 as an Inhuman/Terrigen powered character.

So Simmons indeed it's undercover in Hydra, Fitz gets hit pretty hard by the revelations in this episode, for one discovering that SHIELD is keeping Ward in custody right next to his workplace, and second, that Simmons' not only is risking her life by working undercover, but that she took on the mission just to get away from him (the pression on being next to him, I guess?).

Also, Raina is threaten by Whitehall to give the Obelisk to him or he hits a kill switch on her.

Good episode this week. Mockingbird makes her amazing debut, Skye's father is on screen enough for his comic identity (and by extension, Skye's) to be presumed to at least a 90% degree of accuracy, and Simmons is finally back!
