Could someone point me to newbie-friendly videos for this game ? I tried reading some of the guides but I have absolutely no idea what they were saying. I guess I need more help on runes and items than skill builds.

If you want the basic rundown of a champ, type in 'League of Legends Champion Spotlight (name of champ)' in Youtube. Phreak, one of the NA casters, does the spotlight vids, giving a basic rundown of moves, potential of champs in lane & teamfights and some item suggestions. Once you feel you know enough about the game, watch the pros play. You learn a lot from seeing what they do and why. It helps drills in things like prioritising objectives over kills, positioning in lane and teamfights, warding patterns, etc. The Korean League OGN and European LCS are probably the most useful. They get streamed on Twitch, as do pros that stream. So...did anyone see the cataclysmic upset in OGN tonight? Spoiler for Upset of the year in OGN tonight:

I just finished installing the game So, no runes till level 20 ? Will my experience from Dota be of any relevance when it comes to laning and teamfights ? Who's a good champion to start with ?

Having some MOBA experience helps, but not much. Play against bots till LV15 or so - too many smurfs around will definitely ruin the game for you.
Quote:
ADC (attack damage carry): Ashe, Caitlyn, Vayne. AP (AP mid-laner): Morgana, Annie. Unfortunately, most AP users have intricate mechanics or require precision and timing, so they're all I can think of atm. Jungle: don't jungle until you get a feel for this game. When you do: Jarvan IV, VI, Shyvana, Trundle, Fiddlesticks. Solo top: Renekton, Nasus, Olaf, Teemo(!). Support: Sona, Soraka, Leona, Taric, Zyra Item builds: the suggested items will point you towards the right direction, the finishing touches vary based on your opponents. Have fun playing...I wish my laptop could still handle LoL =/ |

Which Champion should I buy ?
Sona is a lot of fun. The early game harass is insane. I played Sivir too. First game with her went legendary :P Players were bad on the other side. Second game, Yi jumping everywhere and killing everyone on our team. Not having flash really hurt (I'm level 6)

The Chinese have their own nicknames for almost every champion.

Many of those names are based on their WC3 DotA counterparts, because DotA 1 was (and possibly still is) the most popular game in China a few years ago. Many of the professional casters and players have their roots in DotA 1, and brought the nicknames over.
Alistar's nicknames, Old cow (老牛) and cow head (牛头), were Chinese nicknames for Earthshaker, while Medusa for Cassiopeia and Phoenix for Anivia are clearly based on their corresponding Dota heroes. A few interesting quips are that Ahri's nickname, 狐狸精 literally translates to "fox spirit" but is also a colloquial term for "slut". Corki's nickname, aeroplane, can lead to some unintended double entendres in the game, because "hit aeroplane" is also a Chinese euphemism for masturbating.

Spoiler for Riot's April Fools gimmick that Australia highly approves of and wants live!:
Also, today news came out that a former player in OGN tried to commit suicide after his team was coerced into intentionally losing and the 'manager' was highly fraudulent. Story here

Holy SHIT !! Zyra is so awesome ! She's strong in all phases of the match. But she's so costly ;__; I don't have 6300 IP's I bought Morgana and Ashe. Both of them have skill shots and I absolutely love playing heroes with skill shots. Now, will save up for Sona.

This new mode is hilarious. Not something I could play several games in a row but if I just want to let all hell break loose.
Anyway, Sona and Soraka are MUST BAN. Gangplank, Ziggs, Leblanc and Hecarim are next on the list. Nidalee can be annoying but if you have someone to jump in her face it's fine. Jax is hilarious. Wukong jukes everywhere. Generally everyone who has a low CD high damage spell is completely retarded in this mode. Generally ADs don't look impressive at all, although who wouldn't like to shoot random Ashe ult down the lane every 20s? Haven't seen Jinx yet but perhaps she works too. Vayne is just plain bad.
